Flowers and Money It was funny how someone so pessimistic took care of such a cheerful business such as a flower shop. But then again, said flower shop was being used to launder money and further the goals of a criminal organization, so maybe it fit Lana’s sunny disposition just fine. “Are they? Aw geez, I’ll have to keep that in mind and go for chocolates instead” he chuckled. That made him think… when had been the last time he had bought anyone flowers anyway? He couldn’t really remember, it wasn’t like he had much time to think about partners in the last few years, he was more worried about building Enigma and making his plans bear fruit.
However long it had been, the streak wouldn’t be broke today. This was still about Enigma, and he was satisfied to see her put up the away sign on the door, so to avoid any pesky customers or anything of the like. He silently followed the woman to the back of the store, pushing aside the cute rose curtain towards a small room, very sparse, with only few pieces of furniture and less flowers than he’d thought possible for a flower shop, but plenty of tools used to care for plants.
He leaned against the table, not wanting to sit down and soak even more of Lana’s things. He took the towel with a thankful smile, but at this point it was more his clothes that were wet than him. Still, he used to dry his hair a bit more, which served more to make it point every way and become a mess than make things better. He’d love a change of clothes, but it was very unlikely Lana had anything laying around that would fit him. Besides, the wet clothes were just a mild annoyance. “I’m good, thank you.”
But now to business. Bank heist, WBC hold up, all that fun stuff. With an excited smile he began the explanation “I don’t know if you heard, but we are planning something. Something big to not only gain more resources for us, but hopefully cripple the Bianchi enough to make them pause and reconsider their life choices.” Unlikely, but Ryan could dream. At any rate, he was sure if everything went as planned, it would be a big victory for Enigma. “We’re going to steal the Bianchi money. Well, at least the part that is kept in the bank here in Chicago.” He doubted they’d keep even a third of their gold eggs in a bank so close to home, but even a small part was a good part, and the blow to their prides would be invaluable.

Flowers and Money As he waited for someone to show up at the front of the store, Ryan discretely tried to dry himself a little bit by wiping his hands on his pants, but considering there was no dry spot left in him, he wasn’t successful at all. With mildly grumpy sigh, Ryan gave up and resigned himself to keep dripping and making a mess on Lana’s floor. Where was she, anyway? From his spot he tried the crane his neck and see beyond the back of the store, trying to spot someone, but he didn’t want to too move too much. Thankfully someone came from the back not too long after Ryan had called out, it was Lana too, he shot the woman a cheerful smile, waving at her silently as a greeting. She took one look at his soaked appearance before glancing at open window he hadn’t even noticed before. He was a bit surprised at the way she dashed to close it, not even a hello or any other kind of greeting. What was she afraid of? That her plants would get wet?
Silently, he accepted the towel she handed her, using the fluffy cloth to dry himself off the best he could. His clothes still remained sticky and clung to his body uncomfortably, but this was the best he could do without going back home. Her greeting caused a laugh out of him, that was the Lana he knew, always so full of joy and happiness, ready to treat any customers as they deserved. “It works, doesn’t it? Why change tactics if it still brings results?” They both knew he wasn’t here for flowers though, but maybe he’d buy some, make Ruby and Vienne feel appreciated for once.
But for now, he’d rather not test her patience with pointless conversations. “I’m sure you’re wondering, but I have some things to discuss.” Business, always business, never he dropped to have a coffee and just chat, he suspect Lana wouldn’t appreciate if he did. “Do you want us to talk here or somewhere we can avoid having random clients eavesdrop?” His voice was always casual and friendly, a certain cheerfulness to his words as the excitement for the hit Enigma was planning got bigger. A true heist, that would be the first for the family, and he wanted to make sure everything went right.

Flowers and Money The rain was pelting against his face as he reached his destination. The weather had changed so suddenly, had no time to prepare himself, no umbrella or anything that could be used to protect himself. Thankfully the flower shop wasn’t too far, and the owner, although no exactly one of the closest people to him, it was still someone he liked well enough. With a sigh and pushing his wet hair out of his face, Ryan reached the entrance of the flower shop, the door opening with a ding of a bell.
Lana came to him not long after Enigma started making themselves known with the destroying of the harbor belonging to the Bianchi. At first he had been somewhat wary of her, what could a florist, even one with criminal history, could possibly offer Enigma. But her drive and willingness to stand up to the Italian family had won him over, and he could honestly say for now that he made the right call. Anything she could do, she would, and her shop was a better idea than he’d think, the more he could diverge attention from Neo, the better, and she offered the perfect opportunity.
The smell of plants and soil hit his nose as soon as he was inside, the faint perfume of some flowers pleasant in contrast with the wet street he had just come from. He looked at the droplets that fell on the floor, felling just little bit bad about it, but it was a place full of plants, they liked water, right?. “Hello?” He called out, his naturally loud voice carrying out on the room easily. “Lana, you here?” The shop was open, so he figured there was someone there, but who knew, she could have hired someone to stay on her place and never told him.
He was fidgety, not particularly about having to talk with the woman, but because the subject. This joint hit on the bank and WBC would be big, he hoped to not only get a good amount of money, but he expected Enigma to be the talk of the city for the next month, strike the fear into the heart of the Bianchi (if they had one, he had his doubts). He needed to iron things out with Lana first though, let her know of what to expect, because he certainly couldn’t use just Neo if he wanted to make the money clean, too much too soon, and his club already didn’t have the most upstanding of reputations.

If it's broken, fix it So many bad things happened to Ruby, leaving her shattered and crying on his shoulder, he wanted to set things right, but he didn’t want to get angry over this, at least not right now, but the idea that someone would hurt Ruby like that filled him with indignation, made him want to track down that Max person and kick his face until he begged for Ruby’s forgiveness, but those feeling wouldn’t help right now, it would only make Ruby more upset, because she still cared too much about the man who hurt her. So Ryan took a deep breath to calm his emotions, he’d keep the anger for when he needed, like when he met Max and was able to take his anger out properly.
There was a brief silence after Ryan explained his point about trust, he believed Ruby was mulling over his words, and he hoped it would serve if not to make things better, but at least to show her it wasn’t the end of the world, as long as he was a round, Ryan would always be there to help her with anything she needed, even getting rid bastards who broke her heart. Her question though, made him pause thoughtfully, he could think of many reasons, but at the same time, he didn’t know if any of them were true. “I don’t know, Ruby. Maybe he wanted to hit enigma and you were a convenient target, maybe he was bored and wanted to play with your emotions. I don’t know this Max, I can’t tell you his motivations.” He wished he could tell her something more reassuring, but he wouldn’t lie about this. “The only thing I know, is that it doesn’t matter the reason, you didn’t deserve it.” He was sure of his words, he only needed Ruby to believe him.
Been through enough, yeah, he didn’t believe that for one second. If he had the guts to hurt someone as loyal as Ruby, he still needed to go through some pain, suffer the consequences for his actions, but as proven time and time again, Ruby was unwilling to tell him the man’s location. “There’s never enough pain for the one who hurt my family.” He declared, anger still behind his words, but more controlled now. He gave a sigh, realizing that she probably would still protect Max. “But you are the one who has to decide what is needed or not.” There was a sad undertone on his voice, for Ruby and how little he felt he could do to help her.
Her declaration brought a smile to his face, and a little of his rage faded right then. He planted another kiss on Ruby’s temple, squeezing her into his arms in a hug. “I love you too, Ruby. Don’t ever forget that I’m here for you.” He believed from the bottom of his heart that Ruby would be fine eventually, she just needed time and lots of love from her true family. And maybe, that could begin with mundane tasks, like the one she was suggestion. “Of course, that room is still yours. Do you need any help with that?”

If it's broken, fix it The way she described it, made it sound like Max one day woke up decided he didn’t want anything to do with Ruby, a sudden epiphany that their friendship suddenly wasn’t worth it. It sounded like bullshit, if he could discard her so easily, it could only mean he didn’t care for her in the first place. In that case, maybe it was better like this, she might be heartbroken right now, but it was better to get rid of a doomed relationship earlier, rather than wait until later. “Maybe it isn’t so much that it changed, but more like the truth came out. It doesn’t sound to me like he cared much for the best friends thing in the first place.” And didn’t that fill him with protective anger. He squeezed her to his side, a reassuring hug to show that even if her so called friends didn’t want her affection, he’d always be there for her. But this willingness she had to protect them, to protect Max, was very much not appreciated. He couldn’t understand why she wasn’t willing to let Ryan handle this, he’d make sure Max would never hurt her again, it’d be so simple. Ryan didn’t have Ruby’s fondness for the man, it’d be so easy to punch him a few times and make things better. “It’s not nothing, Ruby.” His voiced raised to a moment, not in ager at her, but at Max, before he controlled his tone and spoke more calmly, but with no less conviction “You are worth it, your feelings are worth it. It’s always important to make thing right again for you.” He tried to catch her eyes with his own as he said that, to show how much he meant every word.
But it was like he said, she was fond of him, that made her soft and unwilling to hurt anyone she was loyal to, and admirable trait, but it had its downsides. “I know you don’t want retaliation for that guy, even if he hurt you. But does he really deserve your loyalty, does he really deserve be protected… from me?” She must know he just wanted her wellbeing, he’d never do anything to hurt her further, he just wanted to make sure something like this wouldn’t happen again.
Ruby’s flinch made him think the wound still hurt, and he poking at it wouldn’t do any good. He stopped his prodding, cradling her hand gently. “Well, make sure to not let in infect or something.” He said softly. He watched in concern as she seemed to curl up on herself, withdrawing to a shell of sadness. He leaned against her, her question making his heart break. He wanted to hug and protect her for the rest of her life, put her in a bubble and never let anything touch her again. “No Ruby. Never think that.” He said with all conviction he felt. “I love you, you know, and it’s not wrong. It might be difficult, with the life we have, the stakes are so much higher and when we trust someone we shouldn’t, the consequences are much more life threatening. But even then, it’s never wrong to love, otherwise I wouldn’t have made Enigma what it is today, with people like you, who I love and trust.” He didn’t love everyone in his gang, and not everyone was trustworthy, but enough people, like Ruby and Johnny, who were truly his family and he would do anything for.
But he could understand where she came from with that question, he had suffered his fair share of heartbreaks and betrayal. He was a man who always gave his whole heart to his cause, and he had given his heart to the wrong cause before, not exactly the same situation, but a betrayal was a betrayal. “Don’t give up on love just because of one person who didn’t deserve your loyalty. It’s not worth it to let him break something in you like that. Love may be a weakness sometimes, but it can also be one’s greatest strength.” It sounded corny, but his words were sincere.

If it's broken, fix it It was like Ryan was getting only bits and pieces from whatever transpired between Ruby and the so called friends. Slowly he was able to piece together what happened, but there was still details missing, it felt like Ryan didn’t have a fundamental piece of the puzzle. One little thing that would help him understand what happened completely. “He pushed you away? Did he change his mind about being your friend?” That sounded weak, there must be something else to it. “Why was that? Was he leading you on this whole time or did something happen?” He’d keep asking, pushing for bits and pieces of the whole story as long as Ruby kept talking, his voice always low and caring.
He didn’t believe for a second the one called Jacob never did anything wrong, but if he wasn’t the cause of Ruby’s tears, he was of no interest to Ryan. Apparently he wouldn’t have hunt down two people, but just one. The man called Max, who said things and played with Ruby. And still she didn’t say how or what he said, not his full name, nor where Ryan could find him, nothing that he could use to find this man so he could have words with him. Very serious and painful words. “Will you ever tell me where I can find him?” He didn’t think she would, and it was deeply frustrating that he wouldn’t be able to do anything to fix this issue. That was what he meant when he said she was too fond of them to do anything if needed, why he wanted her to share more about them all those months ago when she moved. “I can’t just let him get away with this, Ruby” A little of his anger slipped through those words, he didn’t want to show anything but his full support, but he couldn’t help it.
For now all he could do was hug offer all his love. He was glad to note Ruby wasn’t trying to drown her sorrows in alcohol by gulping it all down quickly, but simply drinking it moderately. He, better than anyone else in this warehouse, knew how easy was to fall into the trap of drinking and forgetting everything else, he’d hate to see Ruby fall down on that road. He felt her hand on his, her grip like that of a lost child. He felt sorrow fill his heart to see his sister like that. He gripped her hand back comfortingly, his thumb caressing her palm absently, nothing there was some sort of scratch or cut on there. “Did you hurt yourself?” He asked softly, turning her hand to take a look at the wound.

If it's broken, fix it If he could, Ryan would keep Ruby beside him for the rest of their lives. He’d scare away any fake friends who decided it was a good idea to hurt her. But the first option was stupid and unviable, while the second didn’t seem very likely to happen, since even with her crying and saying she made a mistake in leaving, Ryan noted she was unwilling to share too much, like she still thought it was necessary to protect those people from Ryan. It made no sense, if they betrayed her, it was reason enough to payback on the same coin. But he knew Ruby’s loyalty was not something to easily go away, it was possible she was more loyal to them that they were for her, it filled him with anger to think anyone would take that loyalty and throw it away, he personally knew how rare and valuable Ruby’s care was.
He fetched a drink for both of them, and even kept the bottle to himself, but Ryan did not drink from his glass. He didn’t feel like getting drunk right now, he just wanted to help his sister, and for that it was better if remained sober. Contrary to popular belief, Ryan did have a little bit of self-control regarding his addiction, he just saw no reason to use it most of the time.
The more Ruby spoke or tried to explain, the less Ryan understood about the situation. It was clear something happened, but he didn’t know what, why or how. Ruby kept avoiding giving direct answers and it was starting to frustrate him, but even then, he kept his voice soft and warm. “It wasn’t supposed to go like what?” Did she try to do something or did they do something she wasn’t expecting? He had no idea, he just wanted to understand so he could try to figure out the best course of action.
Back to normal, she said, so it wasn’t something that happened suddenly, it was the consequence of something else. Uuugh, it was so confusing. “Why wasn’t it normal, then? What happened with… Jacob… and Max…?” He remembered those were the names Ruby had given him before she moved, and the question was more a way for him to confirm it was their fault. God, she sounded so sad, It broke his heart to see her like this, like she was about to crack and start crying. Ryan placed his glass by his feet on the ground, before wrapping his arms around Ruby in a proper hug, his hand running through her hair soothingly. It was all he could do while she refuse to answer properly. “Please, Ruby, I’m just trying to help.”

If it's broken, fix it Did someone do this to Ruby? Did someone hurt her so badly it made her want to go back to him? Ryan truly would love if she came back to live with him, he missed having her around, be able to seek he out to just talk and plan at any time of the day or night, missed her company and to be secure in the knowledge she was nearby. When she moved, for weeks his irrational overprotectiveness had plagued his mind, from time to time he still go drunk because he missed her so much. But never in his life had he wished for her to get hurt just so she would come back. He’d rather she stayed away and happy.
When he helped her pack her boxes, they had discussed the reason for Ruby’s sudden need to move. She wanted her own space, and she wanted somewhere she could take her friends to. Those so called friends were what had left worried the most, he didn’t know these people, how could he trust his sister’s safety to some strangers who might as well be working for the enemy? And apparently he was right. He’d bet it was those friends the cause of her pain, there was no other explanation, now if only she told exactly what happened and where were the bastards so he could deal with them. “I never wanted this to happen, Ruby.” He said with a sigh, planting a kiss on her temple. “I truly wanted you to be happy there.”
He got up from the couch, going for the cabinet where he kept some of his alcohol. He grabbed two glasses and a vodka bottle, before going back to where Ruby was seated. He silently filled the glasses and offered one to Ruby, keeping the bottle to himself so he could at least control a little how much she drank, it’d be bad if she took too much too soon, as much as alcohol felt good when you are feeling down. “Do you wanna tell me what happened? Was it those friends of yours?” His voices was still soft and gentle, and he sat closely to her, their arms touching as if offering his support.

If it's broken, fix it He could see how much she tried to be casual, hide behind a semblance of normality. But her greeting felt forced, the pitiful attempt at a smile just made Ryan’s worry grow. Ruby was a strong woman, as much as he liked to play over protective brother, he knew she could take care of herself. That was the reason he had eventually agreed to let her leave. It had been a shock, and he worried too much, but deep down he knew she’d been fine. To see Ruby in this state, looking so lost and upset, he couldn’t imagine what could’ve happened. The only consolation he could find right now, was that she seemed to be physically fine. There was no blood, hers or anyone else’s, so I couldn’t have been anything related to a physical fight.
As soon as his door closed, Ryan felt Ruby’s arms wrap around himself. A desperate sort of hug that seeked comfort. He immediately returned the gesture, engulfing her in his arms in a protective embrace. Her words made him frown, he had no idea what she was talking about, but if he being right caused so much distress on her, he didn’t want to be right. “What are you talking about, Ruby?” His tone was soft, very different from the loud boom he normally used. “What happened, tell me.” He broke the hug momentarily just to look at her face, still keeping his arms around her protectively. She looked so wrecked, what could he do to make things better? Listen to her for now, and be here for her, hopefully blow up whatever upset her.
Slowly, he steered he towards the couch he had in his office, if they were going to have a serious discussion, they’d better be sitting. He gesture for Ruby to take a seat, and would place himself close to her if she accepted.

Down the memory lane He gave a hearty laugh at Johnny’s plan to deal with troublesome drug dealers. Positive reinforcement, that was always nice. “Of course, Johnny, that is a great idea, ensure their loyalty by their stomachs.” He nodded in amusement, wondering if they’d appreciate a vodka cake, or perhaps Johnny would want to slip something from his stash to make everyone mellower. Then they can take pictures of them high and use as blackmail. The plan sounded great to his buzzed mind.
Best barman in town, if he had anything to say about it. “Are you kidding me? Of course I do. Always ask for them to impress me before deciding if they are fit for the job. Can’t have people who doesn’t know their alcohol touching the bottles, don’t you think?” He smirked, swirling the glass on his hand. And Johnny seemed to get busy with his pills, fake happiness or something, Ryan was never one for drugs, he tried it some options when he was younger, but it never appealed to him, alcohol was his true love.
But that talk about the Bianchi wasn’t fun. He wasn’t sure what was the deal with Johnny’s sudden sympathy, did he see a Bianchi be nice to a puppy or something? Or had he suddenly woken up with an existential crisis? He gave a offended gasp at the insinuation they’d be the same. “JOHNNY!” Yep, that was louder than intended, in his defense he was getting drunk and louder than intended was his default anyway. He wasn’t angry though, more surprised and confused. “We’re not the same. How can you think that? Is that your way of telling me I’ve been a terrible boss lately?” There was a whinny tone in his voice as poked Johnny playfully.
But it was true that they’ve been dealing with minor stuff, small gangs here, recruiting lone mercs there, slowly expanding their influence and making themselves known to the underground. “We’re not fighting them head on because I’m not suicidal. A much as I don’t like them, I realize they amassed a lot of power over the years, we have to strike carefully and gather our strengths before a direct attack.” He grew more serious as he explained. “We may be taking our sweet time, Johnny, but that doesn’t mean we’re going nowhere. We hurt them a lot by stopping their trade by the water, now we just have to wait a little.” He smirked remembering the chaos that raised when Enigma made themselves known with the bombed harbor.
“And besides, who knows, maybe we’ll spit on their faces sooner than you might think.” He said cryptically, not ready to reveal details about a certain upcoming heist plan just yet. He thought Johnny’s questions came from impatience, since it may look like Enigma was doing nothing for the last few months, but Johnny would just have to learn not everything could be solved by running headfirst into fights.

If it's broken, fix it Some days he could almost enjoy the menial task of doing paperwork, especially if there was just enough to keep him busy, but it wasn’t a never ending pile that trapped him forever in his office and away from the alcohol. He had been doing work for just under two hours, and already he had to just finish reading this report before he was free, the day was looking up to be a good one. Who knew, maybe he would be able to hang around some of the people who had been too busy to talk lately. Placing the last document on top of the done pile, Ryan kicked his chair away from his desk, stretching his arms above him, his muscles burning pleasantly from the strain, before he slumped down and stayed like that.
He could either go open a bottle of vodka as a prize for a job well done, or he could see if anyone was around for him to bother. Both sounded like sound ideas, so he decided that he could do both. But before he could gather the courage to get up from his spot, a knock sounded from his door. Curiously, Ryan got up and opened the door, wondering if it was Vienne with more news of broken pipes. But it was Ruby who stood before him, and his first reaction was to smile, as he always got happy when his sister decided to come for a visit, but the smile faded as soon as he took in her appearance.
“Ruby?” He asked carefully, a worried look downing on his face. The too big hoodie, the poorly done make up, the way her eyes were bloodshot, even her posture, hugging that pillow like a lost child who just had a nightmare, everything pointed out to distress and sadness. He opened his door further, reaching out to wrap his arm around her shoulder and steer her inside. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?” A million and one scenarios crossed his mind, from the most horrible to the most silly, his worry growing by the second.

Down the memory lane Johnny was a curious thing. A violent man he took under his wing when he saw him as a lost boy with too much anger and no way to redirect it. At the time, Enigma was an idea, something that seemed impossible, but that never stopped him from trying. He didn’t have the influence that came from big names in the crime underworld, so he started from the bottom by recruiting anyone willing to listen to him. He offered the boy a chance, and in exchange he got one step closer to his ambition. All in all, Ryan thought he made the right choice, if the fact that they were sharing a drink in Ryan’s own night club was anything to go by.
And drink he did, Johnny matching him step by step, finishing his own glass at the same time as Ryan and quickly asking for another. He quickly prepared what he called a true fireball. Ryan accepted the shot glass happily. Johnny really knew his alcohol, so Ryan wasn’t afraid to take what he offered “To our ruined livers.” He said with a smiled lifting it in Johnny’s direction before downing in one go, the liquid burning his throat pleasantly, before settling the warmth that spread on his chest.
He had no doubts in Johnny’s skill to deal with those Spanish dogs, he actually had heard it went as well enough, their agreement once again in place, and it would probably stay like that until Ryan said so. But it was always better to hear the facts directly from the source, there were always some personal detail or another missing from second hand reports. “Heated uh? I hope I won’t have to deal with people complaining they can’t meet their quota because they’re missing some employees.” he said with a smirk, anyone who might be overhearing might think he was exaggerating, his voice giving an impression of sarcasm, but both of them knew it wasn’t unreasonable to think there were bodies involved.
Ryan filled his glass with Vodka again, the familiar taste of the alcohol burning his tongue as he took a sip. He watched with mild worry as Johnny put something on his own drink, it always worried him his left hand’s habit of running on drugs and alcohol, but he’d be the biggest hypocrite if he demanded Johnny to stop as he didn’t exactly treated his liver well. He was cut from his worries by Johnny’s question, he didn’t need to spell it out for Ryan to figure out about who he was referring to. Before he answered, Ryan downed his glass of Vodka, the thought of the white rats bringing a sour taste to his mouth, or maybe that was the fireball. “Yes, we need to worry. Have you seen them? Buying their way into power, killing anyone who disagree, manipulating the system like it’s their own sandbox. Thinking they can rule the word because they were born rich.” His words were spit out in bitterness, the distaste about the Bianchi clear in his voice. “Why? Do you think if we talked and touched butts everything would be fine?” It was an odd question for Johnny to ask, was he already drunk or he just wanted to see Ryan go into an angry rant?

Down the memory lane Johnny had started to drink already, but Ryan was happy to note the man wasn’t plastered yet. Drinking alone was all fine and could be a good pastime, but nothing compared to getting drunk with someone you liked. Having fun on its finest. Ryan took a gulp from his glass, a sound of appreciation on his lips. He always liked how his bartenders always kept the good stuff reserved for him. The perks of owning the place.
He chuckled at Johnny’s response, life of the party, yes. Be it an alcohol fueled party, or a bullet storm party. That’s a thing he liked, Johnny’s flexibility in how to animate parties. He leaned against the bar’s counter tipping his glass in a flirty greeting. “Sometimes, the people who come here are so worth the time” He finished with a saucy wink, before breaking the flirty mood with a laugh and drinking from his glass again.
His eyes turned towards the people dancing and making out in non-secluded corners, keeping an eye out for any suspicious movement in his club as he always did when he spent any amount of time there. It wasn’t that he thought anything would happen, but he did have his enemies. He did his best to keep Neo clean from any apparent influence with any crime organization, but the police had an awful fondness for poking their noses where they shouldn’t, not to mention the Bianchi.
He hummed in slight annoyance at Johnny’s question. “I wish. Today was not Ryan’s day, apparently. You know when everything seems to conspire together to work against you? That was pretty much what happened today.” He rolled his, his annoyance coming back briefly, before he downed the rest of his glass to make the bad feelings go away. “How about you, though? Everything went well with the hermanos?” He was sure Johnny would be sensible not to mention any nasty details in public like this, but he was curious how that job went.

Down the memory lane Trying to take over a city was hard work. Sometimes Ryan just wanted to bang his head on a wall and be done with it instead of having to deal with dishonest people in a cutthroat business, it’d be more pleasant. It was one of these days, the kind that everyone just collectively decided to fuck him over nothing. A bad client who refused to pay here, a supplier who decided to have a bitch fit there, paperwork that just seemed to pile up no matter how hard he tried to finish them. But now he was done with all that, it was the end of the day, all that was left for him to do was get drunk.
Things were about to look up now, he would have the chance to go to his beloved Neo, chat up with the bartenders, and more importantly, meet up with Johnny. His left hand was always down to get drunk with him, it was one of the boy’s traits he appreciated a lot. It wasn’t always he got to put some time aside just to waste time and bond with the people he called family, Ruby was to one he went to usually if he felt particularly lonely, but he’d make time for everyone if he could.
He made his way inside the club, greeting the bouncer cheerfully at the door, the music thrumming and people having fun all around, he liked to sit and watch the customers, observe the kind of clientele who seemed to frequent at any given time. He reached the bar, his bartender didn’t look to be overwhelmingly busy at the moment, but he was taking care of quite a few customers. Ryan scanned the bar until his eyes fell in the lonely figure of Johnny, who seemed to already have started the drunk fest without him.
Any noise he might have made was drowned by the music as slipped on the stool besides Johnny “Hey, I see you didn’t bother to wait for me, I’m hurt.” He said in greeting, a happy smile on his face disproving his words. He waved at the bartender once he saw him looking towards them, and wordlessly he was given a glass of vodka, the bottle being placed beside it. It’d be surprising if by now the whole of Enigma didn’t already know his tastes.

Betrayal! She said it was not a permanent departure, but it certainly felt like a goodbye. He would see her less, she’d have those friends to spend time with and most likely forget to call or forget to come and visit outside of Enigma responsibilities. It was a sad thought that would haunt Ryan for the next month or so, at random intervals that would prompt him to go on alcohol binges. In fact, he’d do just that as soon as Ruby was out of the door. He had a few business phone calls to make, but he could postpone those just so he could drown in alcohol, nobody would dare to complain.
He wondered if he should go with the usual vodka or bring out the whisky… Maybe he could mix both and hope for the best. He hadn’t done that for a while. “Please, I couldn’t possibly lower people’s respect for me any further after they see the pink tiara you gave me. No need to worry about me appearing soft.” He said fondly to Ruby, a teasing tone in his voice, in fact, he did like the pink tiara as an ornament, just not on his head when he was drunk, but he supposed those incidents would diminish after Ruby was gone.
She was really going, the boxes were all ready and Ryan had no way to hold her further without literally tying her to the table foot, and unfortunately she wouldn’t appreciate that. “I’ll hold you to that promise, you hear? I’ll personally bring down your door and demand a detailed explanation if you fail” he wouldn’t really break her door, the explanation on the other hand… He approached Ruby one last time, plating a chaste kiss on her cheek and giving her one last hug. “Take care, Ruby.” Once she was gone, the search for alcohol would begin.
