Flowers and Money The rain was pelting against his face as he reached his destination. The weather had changed so suddenly, had no time to prepare himself, no umbrella or anything that could be used to protect himself. Thankfully the flower shop wasn’t too far, and the owner, although no exactly one of the closest people to him, it was still someone he liked well enough. With a sigh and pushing his wet hair out of his face, Ryan reached the entrance of the flower shop, the door opening with a ding of a bell.
Lana came to him not long after Enigma started making themselves known with the destroying of the harbor belonging to the Bianchi. At first he had been somewhat wary of her, what could a florist, even one with criminal history, could possibly offer Enigma. But her drive and willingness to stand up to the Italian family had won him over, and he could honestly say for now that he made the right call. Anything she could do, she would, and her shop was a better idea than he’d think, the more he could diverge attention from Neo, the better, and she offered the perfect opportunity.
The smell of plants and soil hit his nose as soon as he was inside, the faint perfume of some flowers pleasant in contrast with the wet street he had just come from. He looked at the droplets that fell on the floor, felling just little bit bad about it, but it was a place full of plants, they liked water, right?. “Hello?” He called out, his naturally loud voice carrying out on the room easily. “Lana, you here?” The shop was open, so he figured there was someone there, but who knew, she could have hired someone to stay on her place and never told him.
He was fidgety, not particularly about having to talk with the woman, but because the subject. This joint hit on the bank and WBC would be big, he hoped to not only get a good amount of money, but he expected Enigma to be the talk of the city for the next month, strike the fear into the heart of the Bianchi (if they had one, he had his doubts). He needed to iron things out with Lana first though, let her know of what to expect, because he certainly couldn’t use just Neo if he wanted to make the money clean, too much too soon, and his club already didn’t have the most upstanding of reputations.

[nospaces] [attr="class","lee-container"][break] [attr="class","lee-image"]
[attr="class","lee-fancy-font"] meet me there, in the blue [attr="class","lee-text-container"] Sometimes when she looks at herself, she wonders what it would feel like to peel her skin away.[break][break]
Lana scoffed. So, we’re referring to ourself in the third person now, are we? Lana leaned forward over the sink to get a better look at herself in the mirror. The dying, yellow lights of the employee bathroom reflected with the red of her hair gave her skin a gross orange color. She didn’t recognize the woman staring back at her. Each hour passed and her invisible microbiology shifted. Each hour, her skin got older, her heart grew more fatigued, and her brain failed to make new neural connections. The science was beyond the woman who barely graduated high school, but she saw the effects with each passing year. Focusing in, Lana could see the pores along her nose like little freckles except not as cute. With her finger she pulled down the lower lid of her eye. She could follow the jagged pathways of her veins from the bottom of her eyelid and toward her iris. Maybe I’m allergic to the plants. The thought came and then was gone, followed by a miserable chuckle.[break][break]
When the bell in the front rang to announce a customer, Lana’s pupils dilated. No one else was here to cover her absence, but she stayed in the bathroom, looking at her washed out face with contempt and resignation. She took her time washing her hands, hoping the customer would get annoyed and leave. When she heard the voice muffled through the door, she thought she recognized it but it was hard to tell. Lana dried her hands on her jeans, leaving dark marks, before she exited the bathroom and made her way to the front.[break][break]
To her surprise, it was Ryan standing there, water dripping from his fingertips and hair and onto her floor. She didn’t realize it was raining. Her eyes moved passed him to look out the large windows and into the hazy downpour outside. Her eyes widened and without saying hello, she dashed to a window by the store counter. She leaned out and yanked the window closed, nearly slipping on the wet floor. What good are weathermen anyway? ‘Today is a gorgeous cloudless day in Chicago, people. Grab your sunglasses and enjoy the arrival of Spring!’[break][break]
With an exasperated sigh, Lana faced the man she managed to convince to give her his money. Without looking, she grabbed a 2 small towels from behind the counter. She tossed one on the floor below the now closed window. The other one she handed to Ryan when she closed the distance between them. “Trying to impress a date with some expensive roses?” she asked with her usual deadpan tone. “Isn’t that a bit of a dated tactic?” He wasn’t here for flowers though; Lana knew that. It was probably just business. Everything was just business. It’s not personal, just business, toots. A reality played behind her eyes as she waited for Ryan to explain his unannounced visit.

Flowers and Money As he waited for someone to show up at the front of the store, Ryan discretely tried to dry himself a little bit by wiping his hands on his pants, but considering there was no dry spot left in him, he wasn’t successful at all. With mildly grumpy sigh, Ryan gave up and resigned himself to keep dripping and making a mess on Lana’s floor. Where was she, anyway? From his spot he tried the crane his neck and see beyond the back of the store, trying to spot someone, but he didn’t want to too move too much. Thankfully someone came from the back not too long after Ryan had called out, it was Lana too, he shot the woman a cheerful smile, waving at her silently as a greeting. She took one look at his soaked appearance before glancing at open window he hadn’t even noticed before. He was a bit surprised at the way she dashed to close it, not even a hello or any other kind of greeting. What was she afraid of? That her plants would get wet?
Silently, he accepted the towel she handed her, using the fluffy cloth to dry himself off the best he could. His clothes still remained sticky and clung to his body uncomfortably, but this was the best he could do without going back home. Her greeting caused a laugh out of him, that was the Lana he knew, always so full of joy and happiness, ready to treat any customers as they deserved. “It works, doesn’t it? Why change tactics if it still brings results?” They both knew he wasn’t here for flowers though, but maybe he’d buy some, make Ruby and Vienne feel appreciated for once.
But for now, he’d rather not test her patience with pointless conversations. “I’m sure you’re wondering, but I have some things to discuss.” Business, always business, never he dropped to have a coffee and just chat, he suspect Lana wouldn’t appreciate if he did. “Do you want us to talk here or somewhere we can avoid having random clients eavesdrop?” His voice was always casual and friendly, a certain cheerfulness to his words as the excitement for the hit Enigma was planning got bigger. A true heist, that would be the first for the family, and he wanted to make sure everything went right.

[attr="class","lee-fancy-font"] meet me there, in the blue [attr="class","lee-text-container"] Results? Lana wanted to roll her eyes. It didn't make much sense to own a flower shop and be skeptical of the reasons people bought them, but here she was mocking the very notion of buying flowers for a special someone. It may be resentment. No one ever bought her flowers... well, except once. It was one of her mom's boyfriends when she was 14. He came over knowing her mother wasn't at home. He offered her flowers and then a fuck. Testosterone poisoned men were all over the city, thinking they could take whatever they wanted. With a bat, Lana escorted the prick out. She tried telling her mother about the incident, but she continued to date him. In fact, she blamed Lana for what happened. You slut! she said. Instincts told her that Ryan was never such a man and that he was incapable of it, but experience said anyone could be a disappointment. Lana needed to put her cynical nature behind her. "Be careful, I hear women are getting smarted." Lana wanted to break herself of her antisocial behavior. She found that cracking jokes was one of the easiest ways to put others at ease.[break][break]
Ryan was quick to jump right in. Lana was fine with that. She crossed her arms and shifted her weight on her hips. When he asked if they could speak somewhere else, Lana nodded. She went to the front of her store and replaced the 'Open' sign with 'Be Back in 15 Minutes'. She turned and motioned for him to follow her. "Sure. Back here." Lana led him to the back of her store. There was a rose patterned curtain that separated the back of the shop from the front and she held it open for him. She kept reminding herself she needed to invest in a door or something. The back of the shop was dim with sparse furniture. In the far left corner was a small round table with three chairs around it. There was a shelf immediately to their left with plant food, vases, sheers, stones and all the makings of botany. From the back alone, it was obvious that few worked here. It was for the best considering who Lana had recently aligned herself with.[break][break]
Lana went to the small employee fridge and pulled out a water. On the way to the table, she picked up another towel for Ryan. His clothes were sopping wet. A good look, she thought with a spark of humor. "Do you want a change of clothes or something?" she asked. Having worked in the shop for a few years now, Lana knew there were some things you could just never prepare for, so it was best to have a bit of everything. "Help yourself to whatever you want," she added and motioned to the fridge. She took a seat at the table and cracked open her water.

Flowers and Money It was funny how someone so pessimistic took care of such a cheerful business such as a flower shop. But then again, said flower shop was being used to launder money and further the goals of a criminal organization, so maybe it fit Lana’s sunny disposition just fine. “Are they? Aw geez, I’ll have to keep that in mind and go for chocolates instead” he chuckled. That made him think… when had been the last time he had bought anyone flowers anyway? He couldn’t really remember, it wasn’t like he had much time to think about partners in the last few years, he was more worried about building Enigma and making his plans bear fruit.
However long it had been, the streak wouldn’t be broke today. This was still about Enigma, and he was satisfied to see her put up the away sign on the door, so to avoid any pesky customers or anything of the like. He silently followed the woman to the back of the store, pushing aside the cute rose curtain towards a small room, very sparse, with only few pieces of furniture and less flowers than he’d thought possible for a flower shop, but plenty of tools used to care for plants.
He leaned against the table, not wanting to sit down and soak even more of Lana’s things. He took the towel with a thankful smile, but at this point it was more his clothes that were wet than him. Still, he used to dry his hair a bit more, which served more to make it point every way and become a mess than make things better. He’d love a change of clothes, but it was very unlikely Lana had anything laying around that would fit him. Besides, the wet clothes were just a mild annoyance. “I’m good, thank you.”
But now to business. Bank heist, WBC hold up, all that fun stuff. With an excited smile he began the explanation “I don’t know if you heard, but we are planning something. Something big to not only gain more resources for us, but hopefully cripple the Bianchi enough to make them pause and reconsider their life choices.” Unlikely, but Ryan could dream. At any rate, he was sure if everything went as planned, it would be a big victory for Enigma. “We’re going to steal the Bianchi money. Well, at least the part that is kept in the bank here in Chicago.” He doubted they’d keep even a third of their gold eggs in a bank so close to home, but even a small part was a good part, and the blow to their prides would be invaluable.
