It's a date! There's murder involved A file, he had received an honest to god file. It had been a while since Jacob had seen one of these. There was a courier in a shady back alley, Jacob didn’t exchange two words with the person, they just handed over the envelope and absconded from there. His clients usually didn’t bother sending more than a picture and a name, and if he was lucky, a location. Not this one, they had gone all out, put together a file with family history, medical history, past relations, regular schedule, everything Jacob needed and didn’t need to know about one Jack White was written on that file. It was a bit of overkill, but it was better to have too much information than too little. Attached to the file, there was another piece of paper detailing exactly what the client wanted done. The plan included infiltrating into the charity ball that was happening at the University of Chicago, finding the target among the hundreds of guests, assassinating him and somehow make it look like an accident. It was pretty simple once Jacob finished reading the instructions. The last thing in the envelope was an invitation the said party, complete with a false alias. For that night, Jacob would be Mr. Leonard Klein. The invitation gave him the option to bring a plus one, and the instructions of the client were quite clear that it was very important to bring a date with him. It was understandable the reasoning behind that particular exigency, it was less suspicious and Jacob could use the other person as an alibi. There was one crucial problem, he wouldn’t be able to wear a mask at that party, that alone would be a reason to refuse, but really, the pay was good, and the job sounded like a good challenge, he had an alias anyway, so it was unlikely anyone would know who he was. Since that was decided, he just needed to decide who would play the role as his plus one. Jacob didn’t trust many people to come with him to a mission, there were exactly two who he would consider calling, and one of them was a cop who would whine and disapprove of his life choices. So he had only one choice, really. Should he call Ruby, or just send a vague message with promises for excitement? After a brief debate, Jacob decided for the later. ‘Want to go on a murder date? It’s a fancy party, so dress nicely ;)’ followed by an address and a few details about said party, it was an fairly known social event, it was possible she had heard about it already, but then again, she wasn’t the one who had to mingle among people like the Bianchi. He knew it was a sudden invite, he hoped Ruby had nothing planned, or that the prospect of killing would interest her enough to come. Not only she was his only viable option, but she also was supposed to be really good at staging accidental deaths, a skill Jacob lacked. He still had a few hours to prepare, it gave him time to find a suit and prepare the hidden weapons he would be using. Jacob was certain there would be some tight security at the place, so he needed to be smart about what he was packing. Time passed rather quickly while he did that, and soon it was time for Jacob to meet his partner for the night. First order of business, it was to decide how they should go with the undercover story. Wife? Girlfriend? Sister? That last one was rather unbelievable, though.

The assassination went well, the guy that thought he could steal Ruby's car by hotwiring it found his doom today, though not by being ran over with the same vehicle. She wished she could have done that, but the car would need fixing, and only the creepy pigeons deserved such quick deaths. And after cornering the guy between two buildings, slicing his abdomen vertically and dumping him in the garbage container, Ruby was home again. Her knive was clean, at its place in a drawer, her latex gloves got thrown away three streets ahead of the murder scene, and her clothes didnt hide any blood stains luckily. As she got out of the shower, a quick buzzing filled her bedroom, coming from her phone. She wasnt in the mood for another task, her father better fuck off. Ruby held the towel around her body with a hand while reaching for her phone with the other, and unlocking the screen. Message from..unknown. Great. Though after viewing the text, she was more than certain that no one other than Jacob could send her a message about a murder date, and a creepy wink. Maybe he had another number she didnt know? But who else would text something like that, it was definitely Pierce. She added him to the contact list as Bunny Slicer, and proceeded to send him a reply. No more murder and chill, huh? I'll be there. ♦ In the next hour Ruby got ready, by browsing in her wardrobe for any fancy dress and then getting some matching shoes, maybe a little purse too. She got too busy with her business to look out for that charitable event, and as long as she had no targets there, she didnt care about it. But Ruby was curious on who Jacob wanted to kill, and why did he need her. Maybe as a back up? Or to create a diversion? Who knows? Blackwood had no plans for the rest of the evening, or the rest of the week, or at least nothing already announced. She was at the location in about an hour and a half, hopefully looking formal enough , and habving had picked the right weapons and devices. Her purse contained two ear pieces, a few drugs under the shape of pills, a little squeez-able bottle with a watery liquid in case there needed to be done some sort of framing or cleaning of fingerprints and a few other items that could prove useful in any sort of mission. A tracking device in special. And if there was any sort of aeroport-level security, Ruby hoped that the guards wont be so daring to check her purse if nothing beeped. The things made of metal were isolated piece by piece anyway. And with a knife at her ankle, a gun to her knee, all should go well. Now, meeting Jacob. Whatever location for the meeting she had recieved, Ruby tried to make it there a bit sooner, so as to have enough time to plan stuff and get more details on what this murder date implied. It's a date! There's murder involved Relief was what he felt when he received an answer to his text only a few minutes after sending it. Ruby was up for murder, and it was not really a surprise. He was glad though, Jacob wasn’t sure what he would’ve done in case she was too busy or not interested. It would be a matter of improvisation, adapting, and making a client annoyed by not following their instructions exactly. The place he had arranged to meet was in front of a hotel near the university. There was a chance they would have to stay there, since people came to the event from all over the country, and it would be a two day thing. Jacob’s alias was supposedly from out of state. If he found the target easily and killed him quickly, there was no need to use the reservations, he could just disappear. But if Mr. White proved to be slippery and eluded the mercenary for too long, he would have the opportunity to try again the next day. When he arrived at the location, there was a familiar figure already waiting for him. Ruby was wearing a pretty blue dress, so similar to the one she had used at the masquerade, that Jacob had a vague sense of Déjà vu. It wasn’t bad thing, however. In fact, he thought she looked quite beautiful. “I hope you didn’t have to wait for too long” He said pleasantly, some people were passing around them, he would bet most of them were guest at the same party, Ruby and Jacob should be going, the earlier they arrived, the longer they would have to find the target. “I’ll give you the details on the way there.” He motioned for Ruby to walk with him, the pace sedated so he would have plenty of time to explain the details to her. Silence reigned for a few minutes while they distanced themselves from the crowd. “You’ll help me kill someone” He said cheerfully, he reckoned she knew that already “There’s a long explanation for exactly what I’m supposed to do and how, it’s simpler if you just read this.” He handed her the paper where the instructions were typed, it explained from his alias to how the murder was supposed to look like an accident. He let a few minutes pass before adding “We just have to come with a good cover story. How do you feel about being my girlfriend? Maybe fiancée?” It seemed to him like the best options, he just hoped Ruby wouldn’t make it weird, unlikely though. The walk to the University wasn’t very long. He could already see the main building looming in the distance. Once inside, they would have to act like normal people, that included mingling and engaging the other guests. “So, any questions or comments before we have to play nice?” He asked with a smile. If not, they could go towards the guards stationed at the entrance, and start the infiltration and murder date.

After having a moment to check her phone for any more text, upon her arrival, and quickly throwing a glance around to get at least a superficial idea of what kind of people entered the building, what sorts of cars passed by (indicating the level of wealth thrown in this game) and if there were any guards to catch a random citizien's eye, her attention was caught by a very familiar voice adressing her. Putting her phone away in her purse, Ruby looked up at Jacob. He looked very handsome in that suit, it kind of fit him. "Not at all. " The woman returned with a smile, and gave a small nod as the mercenary wished to get going. "You look good, by the way." The woman in blue scanned Birdy from his head to toes and back before giving him those nice words. A compliment never hurt anyone, and Ruby figured that if this was such a fancy event, they might as well display their best behaviour.
Kill someone? Oh, the evening would be interesting indeed, exciting, to be more specific. Ruby's smile grew larger, though turning into a smirk, nothing surprising. "I'm starting to like it when you summon me." With a chuckle, the woman held the paper and scanned the whole plan quickly, taking mental notes on Jacob's alias, the target's name and the most interesting things about his routine. So it had to be an accident? Or at least look like it. It seemed like Jacob's pick when it came to murder parteners was not an unfortunate one."Very flattering, it looks like you skipped the whole proposing part." Ruby joked, with a soft chuckle, before getting serious again. "I could play fiancee, a man that affords to attend a charity event doesnt bring his girlfriend with him, with so many gorgeous and rich women around." Then she returned him the paper. if she needed an alias, she could make one up on the spot, being nervous or having her tongue tied in a knot were not Red's habits.
As Jacob seemed eager to get to the snob party, Blackwood thought it would be best for them to put those ear pieces in function sooner than too late. So she opened her purse, and retrieved the devices, handing Jacob his own gear. "If you raise your voice when you're closer than 2 meters, I'll kick you ass." Ruby warned him with a playful glare, the last thing they needed was for the gear to get them deaf in an ear. Ruby put her own ear piece in place, and flipped her hair to conceal it.

It's a date! There's murder involved “You look very nice yourself” It was not even a lie, surprisingly enough, blue fit her really well, and the way her a tattoo could be seen by the open back was a nice touch. He pried his eyes away from her, to anyone watching they were just a young couple meeting, getting ready for a fancy party, nothing suspicious. He caught the eye of some of the people puttering around, they greeted him with a nod, and Jacob just smiled at them and moved on. Why were charity people so nice and polite? Nothing like an encounter involving murder to make a girl happy. “I’m glad you have fun on these dates, I only invite you for the best ones.” He smiled satisfied, Jacob aimed to please his friends, after all. She didn’t take long to read the instructions, maybe she should pick a different name for herself as well? He would leave that for Ruby to decide. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I’ll make sure to take you to dinner first next time I have to ask something this big.” He teased right back. The horror it would be if he and Ruby got married, he would bet Max wouldn’t be too pleased. He agreed with her, that fiancée sounded more believable, but the last part left him a little confused. “If he has a girlfriend, why would it matter other people are gorgeous?” Unless the girlfriend was just for show, but then again, he would want to bring her with him. He accepted the paper back, ripping to shreds and tossed the pieces on a nearby thrash can, to avoid anyone getting a hold of it somehow at the party. It would be very inconvenient if the paper fell on the floor and some guard read it, rookie’s mistake. He was about to continue towards the entrance, but Ruby seemed to have a few ideas. He waited for her to retrieve whatever was in her purse. It turned out to a two earpieces, it was an excellent idea, Jacob would like to use these more often, but he didn’t really had access to these kinds of technology, and he rarely worked with other people anyway. In any case, he knew how to work the device, or at least he had a pretty good idea. He hooked his earpiece on his ear, flattening his hair to try to somewhat conceal it, but his hair was not as long as Ruby’s. People usually didn’t really pay close attention to such accessories, or they found excuses as to why a man would have it, so he wasn’t really worried. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to make you deaf. You wouldn't be able to hear the screams of your victims, that's just cruel.” He offered her his arm, before approaching the entrance where a man was welcoming the guests and checking the invitations. It was very simple to enter there, the guard gave them a pleasant nod “Mr. Klein, Miss, welcome” Jacob answered with a nod and a pleasant smile, nobody seemed to suspect anything, they didn’t even make a very thorough search before allowing them inside. The room already had a fair number of people inside, there was a pleasant music filling the ambient, and guest mingled and chatted amongst themselves. Immediately Jacob noted it wouldn’t be so simple to find Jack White among the crowd. The place was huge, and he had no idea where the man would be, or if he even had arrived already.

This might have been the first time Jacob actually complimented someone. As in, not a sarcastic compliment, and Ruby didnt actually see him telling people how nice thier jacket was or stuff like that. But it was a good type of 'surprising' . "Toda. (Thank you)" The woman let her accent slip through her lips this time, but for the rest of the night there shall be no place for it. Personal reasons. If he did invite her on the best dates or not, one thing was certain: Jacob had great taste in missions, murders altogether. How he got his assignments? Ruby had no idea, probably the Bianchi delivered them in some fancy scroll, sealed with the blood of their enemies, with a tiger pattern. Or perhaps Pierce had his personal contacts too, or more like, ways to be contacted and reached, without jeopardizing his safety. Red chuckled, and was glad that he did not lose his humor by accident. It would have been disappointing. "Make sure to bend the right knee." The woman continued the tease, and kept that smirk on her face. However, Jacob didnt seem to be aware of the common men mistakes. Bringing your girlfriend, around many other fish in the sea, it was a move bound to backfire. Either your girl caught you checking the view, or mingling with the woman with the outrageous measurements- Ruby had witnessesed these fails when she went undercover with a team. There was always a male representant that just had to bring his real partener, these things never happened in Israel, or among Enigma members. "Maybe it doesnt for him, but she can feel intimidated. I've seen it happen." Jacob didnt need as many details, since those were useless anyway. It all depended on what kind of woman one put his hands around, though. Shredding the paper was a smart move, Red subtly looked around as he did so, and was glad that only some ordinary guests were in sight. And once the mercenary / temporary fiancee had his ear piece all set, Ruby grabbed his arm graciously, giving him a hopeful glare. "I see you understand my point then." She chuckled. Men and women, dressed in all colors and dress sizes, displaying their best gowns and the rented personalities- Blackwood thought that all rich people were snobs. Fake human beings, with selfish priorities and no virtues. Was it ironic that she belonged to somewhat of a family like so? She hoped that the fake act was never upon her, around the best of her friends, at least. The polite guard didnt check them for anything threatening, which was a great combo to their current mood. Moral support came from everywhere apparently. Once no one in charge of this place's security was close, Ruby would adress her new "fiancee". "I cant see your cousin." Yeah, well, she was not going to spell target with two couples right next to them, but the blonde did look around a bit. Jacob Pierce

It's a date! There's murder involved The idea of kneeling in front of Ruby to ask her to marry him was hilarious in his head. He simply could not fathom the woman in a white dress in front of a priest declaring her loyalty and love to someone, least of all himself. He had no idea what kind ceremonies Jewish people did when getting married, but he was sure it would also look out of place if done by Ruby. “Of course, I wouldn’t do any other way. Do you think Max would accept being my best man?” That would be a sight to behold, how long until the cop cried from jealousy? As much a ruby tried to explain the logic behind girlfriends in fancy parties, Jacob just could understand. The woman would feel intimidated by other’s prettiness? Sounded stupidly insecure and not worthy anyone’s time, but he would take Ruby’s word to it “Will you feel insecure around all the pretty rich women, though?” He teased her with a smirk, he couldn’t see Ruby acting jealous over other girls’ prettiness, She would be more interested in finding the target and killing him, probably. Killing was always more interesting than being petty and worrying about looks. The longer Jacob looked around all these rich people, showing off their money and chit chatting about inconsequential things, the more he had flashbacks of the Bianchi masquerade. The snobs, the thinly veiled contempt, the less than genuine smiles, it was all very familiar. At least that was how Jacob saw the interactions in these kind of events, he couldn’t understand why people would bother to come to these kind of parties without a good reason. With Ruby on his arm, they were ready to start the hunt. Jacob immediately understood what she was doing, his cousin, it is. “I don’t see him either. Maybe he’s late?” The party had just started, after all. Or he was in another part of the building, perhaps one of the VIP rooms. They couldn’t stand around gaping at the place all night, they needed to blend in. Jacob grabbed two glasses of champagne from a passing waiter, and offered one to Ruby, glad that this event was not sponsored by the Bianchi and their tiger piss. “What’s your opinion on mingling?” He asked her, an amused smirk on his lips, seeing a couple approaching the two of them. He was sure Ruby was capable of pretending to be a refined young lady, it didn’t mean she enjoyed it, Jacob certainly didn’t. But there was a chance one of the other guests knew about the target. “Evening Sir, Ma’am” Jacob greeted, a pleasant smile on his face, and the couple was happy to engage them, inquiring about the party and their opinions on these kind of events.

Ruby tried to picture Max reacting to Jacob and herself getting married, but it was a total fail. She could see the French freeze, or laugh like it was some joke and then go out the door and go to nope-land or something. It was funny enough, and she was glad that the murder date wasnt supposed to be all stiff-serious. "I'm sure he'll be honored." Chuckling, Ruby gave the man a smirk and gave up on trying to visualise Max next to Jacob, while she walked down the aisle- it was weird. The blonde kept her gaze scanning the room, and replied to her 'fiancee' 's question with a neutral tone, almost unfazed by it. "Insecure? Not one of my traits." She liked to believe she was a professional after all, and really, maybe Ruby would even steal a glance or two from any 'pretty woman' that would happen to pass by. But she was focused on the task more than anything. "It's possible. I wonder if anyone saw him yet." Asking around was not an option, it would raise many suspicious questions. And even if they could probably pass as two of his friends waiting for the said target to come, that would end badly. If the police took witness statements and anyone slipped that there were a man and a woman looking for the soon-to-be-dead man, that was not good. Accepting the champagne glass from Jacob, the blonde turned her head from his to the couple he was talking about, and adopted a more natural smile. Mingling sounded like a good way to find out more about the event, its purpose and the kind of guests that were attending. You could tell a lot from one's vocabulary, attitude or simply the aura they inspired. "Mingling is great." Not long after her response, the unknown couple appeared. Ruby greeted too, and did her best to appear as a fancy, rich person. The conversation was nice and innocent, until at some point the strangers became nosey. "Oh my, I've just realised we forgot to introduce ourselves! Can you imagine what a tragedy it would have been if we did not add such mannered youngsters to our friend list?" The voice of the man carried a Scottish accent, delightful for one's ears really. If Ruby was to say, the couple were not as young. Who uses the word 'youngsters' anyway? What were they, 50? 50 something? They were too talkative too. Ruby thought about shaking hands, but that was men's gesture, seeing as the gentleman raised his hand towards Jacob. What was Ruby supposed to do? Shake hands with the woman? Bow a little? God, it has been some time since her last 'formal' mission. Luckily the woman only nodded as the man introduced themselves, so Ruby did the same. This was so awkward, she thought. And when the Scotman was done shaking Jacob's hand, he kissed Red's. Pierce better return the favour or this was going to get even more awkward. "Mr and Mrs Murray. Pleased to meet you, ..?" And then there it was, the moment Jacob had to use his alias. Alas, Ruby wanted to get away from these two. No need to talk with someone for too long, they got useless details out of them and lost time very easily. Jacob Pierce

It's a date! There's murder involved If Ruby and Jacob got married and they forced Max to attend the wedding, the cop would probably cry in jealousy and then go have a self-pity party because he missed his chance with them both. It was a little sad to think about, actually. “Honored isn’t the exact word I would use.” Max certainly was the kind of person with too many morals to try to pursue a married person. It was all stupid what if scenarios, of course, Jacob had no intentions of getting married, least of all with Ruby Blackwood. Insecure was not a way to describe Ruby, that was the truth. And she was beautiful enough that she was the one who would probably cause jealousy. But more importantly, she had more things to worry about than some unspoken competition flared by envy and pettiness. Like look for their target, who remained as elusive as ever. Jacob almost wished Mr. White was an extravagant man who thought purple was appropriate for a fancy charity event. That would make it so much easier to spot him among the numerous black and white guests. Even people who didn’t often go to these boring fancy party, it was quite simple to turn up the charm and pretend everything was pleasant and nice. It was like a switch was pressed when the older couple approached Jacob and Ruby, their friendly smile making an appearance as they did their best to look like they belonged in this kind of ambient. It wasn’t so difficult to exchange pleasantries with the couple, the topics were innocent and they seemed oddly excited to participate in this event, much to Jacob’s silent disbelief. The man’s pleasant Scottish brogue only made him sound more fancy as he introduced himself. Jacob accepted the handshake, it was brief and firm, without being painful. The older gentleman took Ruby’s hand, planting a kiss on it, like a proper greeting, Jacob did the same with the other lady, somehow making it look like it was intention all along. “A pleasure, as well, I’m Leonard Klein, and this is my fiancée.” He would let Ruby introduce herself and choose if she wanted to give her name or come up with an alias on the spot. His alias came out naturally, Jacob was used to not giving out his true name, having something to offer instead was nice for a change. Maybe he should use fake names more often. “Leonard Klein, I’ve heard of that name before, so young and already so successful” Jacob smiled, doubting the truth in the man’s words, but that was the game played, wasn’t it? Politics and ass kissing.

What was this charity event's focus anyway? Feeding the poor? Helping the homeless? Donating to hospitals? Ruby was getting curious, since it looked like the snobs here had such expensive gowns, they could probably feed Africa's inhabitants with the money from one since pair of earrings. Ruby wasnt even exaggerating. Those people probably spent more on their suit than the check they wrote for whatever cause this event was dedicated to. Or maybe Ruby was just being a judgemental person right now? It remained to be seen. The elders were nice, oddly enough yes. She could prpobably see them give away a big amout of money to save a cause. The man's shoes were shiny, though the leather had a few wrinkles, most certainly not made tonight. He looked so comfortable in his suit, this all made Red think that he did not waste a fortune for a one time only suit. It melted down her earlier accusations about the guests around. His wife too had the facial features of a wise and caring woman, the little lines of age only made her look innocent and pretty in her own way. Blackwood's favourite thing to do in a mission was to analyse others, and so that was what she was doing. Subtly, but efficiently. This couple made her feel bad for burning the outfits she used in missions. It seemed to spoiled of her, so selfish. But in reality Ruby couldnt afford to keep a gown that could carry evidence or leave some, perhaps even be evidence. The dress from the masquerade got burned, this one will too. Or at least that's what the people coming from her father to be her contacts in Chicago told her it would happen to those gowns. You could never be too sure though.
The blonde kept her smile, that only turned somewhat warm the longer the couples talked. She had to blend in and play her part, even if that mean to look less like she was expecting someone to appear in any second. "Eva, likewise." Ruby continued as Jacob used his alias and let her introduce herself, still keeping that glass of champagne in her hand. She took a sip of the liquid as the Scottish complimented 'Klein' , even though he most probably never actually heard of him before. "Eva! What a name! It reminds me of a time when I was a lad, and I lived at my grandparents' cottage..-" Then, the woman decided to speak. The old lady had a hand around her husband's arm as the two engaged couple, and used the other one to pat Mr Murray's arm as if to stop him from going on a rant. Ruby thought the two were cute, to be honest. "Now, now, dear, lets not monopolize this conversation." Red chuckled a bit at the woman's words and waved her hand a bit as if to say it was alright, but the gentleman's own laugh surprised her a bit. "No, it's fine, we would love to hear the story." She then gave Jacob a look to see if he agreed, much like two people that have known each other for a really long time, and were able to communicate by glances. It was close, no denial. "Come on, love, they're so young! They sure have time for a little memory." The Scottish continued with that joke, and stopped for a moment, looking at the two. "Ah, how old are you two, dear? You seem awfully young to be engaged if I might say. But what does the 'vintage' generation know, after all?" His laugh was present again, and the blonde chuckled too, looking at Jacob again. "We're really not that young.. And vintage? Well, they say old is gold, yes?" For the fancy act, Ruby let her accent come out and wrap itself around her and the mercenary, to make them seem a bit foreign, or at least really well travelled, as some said.

It's a date! There's murder involved Perhaps Jacob should’ve researched more about this event before coming. He had been a bit pressed for time, running around trying to find a decent suit, trying to memorize all the details of the mission, it hadn’t crossed his mind to look up more about what kind of charity he was supposed to pretend to care about. He hoped nobody asked any specific question from him, there was only so much Jacob could bullshit his way through a conversation and dance around questions he didn’t have an answer for. Did anyone here even knew what the charity was about, anyway? Jacob figured most people here were more interested in making their image better by throwing money into supposedly good causes. At least this couple was okay. They seemed used to this kind of event, like they had too much money and time in their hands, and actually used that for good instead of just using it for status. Jacob could respect that, he had become a bit jaded after spending so much time around the Bianchi and their associates, and although he would never call himself a good person, it didn’t mean there weren’t nice people out there that deserved better in this world, they were just hard to find. Ruby choose the name Eva, it was short and simple to remember, and it somehow provoked some sort of trip down memory lane for the older gentleman. It was kind of cute how the old lady seemed almost embarrassed by her husband’s antics. He didn’t mind the chatter, it was a way to pass the time, let more people arrive, more importantly, let his target arrive or give him a chance to appear near them. “Of course, do tell us more.” He caught Ruby’s look, and smiled pleasantly at the nice couple. “We have two days to mingle and do other stuff, no hurry.” He reassured the woman. He did not expect the age question, wasn’t it considered rude to ask people’s ages, especially from women? Maybe when people grow old they just lose all inhibitions. “I just turned 32 recently.” Which wasn’t that young, really, some people got married in their early twenties. Before Ruby could answer however, the gentleman’s wife interrupted him. “don’t be rude, dear, you don’t ask a lady her age” she chided gently, giving a small slap on his arm that looked more fond than mad. “don’t mind the rude old man, sometimes he forgets his manners.” She said to Ruby with an exasperated smile. While the conversation went on, Jacob discretely let his eyes wander around the room, leisurely looking for his target. There were so many people though, and more and more arrived. How was Jacob supposed to find one man amidst the crowd?

The old lady's humor was delicate, respectful too towards her husband, and probably that was what made the man be so fond of his wife, as it appeared. "They both want to hear the story, dear, let them have it." The Scottman commented, with yet another chuckle. He took a deep breath, as if waiting for his memory to come back for a second longer. Ruby didnt really care much for hearing any sort of childhood happenings, even less if they prevented her from being with her mind on the task. So she let the old man talk about some pastor, a religious person, that used to come to his family's cottage and tell made-up stories about the adamic couple. Childlish stuff, she thought. The blonde chuckled when the older couple did, not wanting to seem rude or like she wasnt paying attention. Ruby guessed that old people being old had no need of excuses or any pretexts to hide their bluntness when it came to words or inquiries. They asked about the presumed engaged couple's age, and Jacob replied with 32. So Red's asssumptions were close. She always thought he looked young, somewhere around 29-35, but he acted too mature sometimes. No, mature was not the word, considering his sarcastic outbursts. Maybe detached? Yes, that suited him better. The Scottish's wife attempted to put him in his place, on a joking tone, hoping the younger due wouldnt get upset or feel offended. Which was really not the case probably. Blackwood shook her head and gave them a reasurring smile, before speaking. "Dont worry, it's not a crime." With a natural laugh, perhaps seeming to play her role too well, Ruby continued, and took another sip of the champagne afterwards. "I'll be 27 soon, which is a bit early for such "fame and fortune" , I guess." Not so much of the fame, if the blonde got asked what she was doing, she had no idea in the moment. But she would have to add to Jacob's alibi too. Would a story about a man going on a tour in Afghanistan and falling in love with his team's medic be too stretched? At this point, Ruby wasnt afraid of not finding the target, but of being questioned too much in not enough time. So she began to mentally prepare her arsenal. Medic, then sent home and loaded with money..sounds about right for a charity event. I'll need to talk with Birdy in private on this theme, sooner or later. We could say we opened a rehab clinic for the people returning from their tours, or that he did, since it doesnt really matter. Her thoughts ran freely, now that the old man finished his story and she had exchanged a few words about it. May any god out there bless this Scottman's wife, for without her, Jacob and Ruby would have probably died on this spot from old age. "Dear, I think I see your brother there, chatting with that pair of ladies. Should we greet him? You'll have to excuse us for a moment. But congratulations for your engagement." She spoke at a calm tone, after motioning towards some man at a distance, that was caught up chatting with a much younger generation of bimbos. Rich men, all the same. Ruby nodded and greeted them, thanking politely for the 'story' and the woman's congratulations. She put her hand up and patted Jacob's cheek, wishing him good luck too, before she and her husband left the two alone. "Finally." The blonde sighed exasperated, and looked around for their target again, but also for a place to leave this glass of champagne. She didnt want to drink it all just because she was stuck in a situation and had nothing else to do, honestly. But from one glass, she wouldnt get tipsy anyway. "Do you want to split, to look for him? I think we lost enough time with the good Samaritans." Jacob Pierce

It's a date! There's murder involved The older gentleman was happy to tell his story, involving priests, Adam and Eve, and childish stories. He looked so happy to be sharing these things with Ruby and him, it made Jacob wonder if he didn’t have others to listen to him prattle, like a kids and grandkids. He only paid half a mind to what was being said, more worried in looking for his target, he nodded and smiled at the right parts, it made him feel a little closer to all the fake people and their fake pleasantries. Compared to this couple, with their stories and mannerism, Jacob and Ruby were quite young. How old were they, anyway? Sixty? Seventy? He wasn’t sure, but although the Scotsman forgot his manners, Jacob didn’t care enough to do the same, their ages were inconsequential. Unlike Ruby’s, her birthday would be soon, near Christmas, he hadn’t known her exact age, but he could’ve guessed she was younger than him. She was still older than the brat called Shaun Bianchi, so Jacob had nothing to complain. It was strange to see how well they played these games, pretending to be part of high society, a successful couple, ready to throw their money at whatever strike their fancy. Ruby’s pleasant words, Jacob’s friendly smiles, in a way he could say he was wearing a mask, after all. They didn’t have to dilly dally with the couple for long, the old lady saw someone familiar on the crowd, and ushered her husband to go attend to that. “Thank you ma’am. I was wonderful meeting you” He managed to cringe just a little when she patted his cheek gently. “That was… something. I think we’re meant to these kind of gatherings” He said after they were gone, his voice low so only Ruby would hear. He followed Ruby in placing his glass of champagne on a nearby table, it was only for show, he had no intentions of getting drunk, no chances were to be taken while in the middle of a job. “Yes, splitting sounds like a good idea.” He nodded, looking around the room cautiously. They still had the ear pieces in case they needed to communicate. He shot her a smile before picking a direction to go look. He walked calmly, his eyes scanning the crowd, sometimes he would stop and exchange a few words with random people, sometimes someone would greet him and he would have stop and have brief conversations. He hoped Ruby had more luck on her side. At least twenty minutes had passed before finally things started to show promise. He caught a glimpse of someone who looked like his target. Elegant and well poised, it was like he commanded attention around him, a small group had stopped to listen to whatever story he was telling. Jacob politely excused himself from the woman he suspected was trying to flirt with him. He made his way through the crowd, with excuse-me’s and I’m sorry’s, his hand went to his earpiece. “I think I see him, near the big staircase.” He informed Ruby lowly, no one seemed to be any the wiser Jacob was up to something. It was a bit difficult to maneuver through the people, so by the time he got close to Mr. White, he seemed to already to be done saying whatever to his little followers, and was making his way upstairs. Jacob couldn’t let that opportunity escape, he glanced behind him briefly, to see if Ruby was nearby, before he attempted to follow the target. He was stopped by one of the guards standing at the foot of the staircase. ‘I’m sorry sir, this area is off limits’ Jacob smiled, apologizing for that. His target was not visible anymore, and he let out a sigh of frustration.

Hm, yeah, maybe they were meant for such tasks. They had the fakeness required, so they could easily survive such events. Well, the people attending them, to be more specific. She only let out a silent giggle, agreeing to that. Jacob accepted to get on separate ways, so their search would be more efficient. If each searched a different part of the building, they could cover more ground in less time. Once the man was no longer at her side, Ruby turned around, greeting some random people so as to look like she was heading towards a familiar group of people. The building lacked video cameras, that was her first surprise. It was a charity event after all, the hosts probably expected mannered, polite people to attend. The guards were at each set of stairs and entrance though.
Red's gaze analysed the ballroom, scanning for the target's frame but having no luck at identifying him. A man had approached her, initiating a conversation and all, but she managed to dodge a bullet by excusing herself with the pretext of not feeling well. It always worked. Blackwood eyed the bar, seeing none of their target. But then, Pierce gave her some news. She raised her hand to the earpiece, to make sure it was adjusted right and that she could hear the man talk, and turned around, picking up a champagne glass on the way towards the staircase. A staircase could only mean one thing, in Ruby's experience. It was either a VIP space, or a VIP space. No doubt there. But were there any people with VIP tags, hanging around their necks? The blonde looked around, pretending to be sipping from her champagne while fixing her gaze on a man. If Jacob was on the task, and succeeded to get up there, it was no need for her to hurry, she had to be an alibi in everyone's sight. But if he didnt, and those tags had a reason, Blackwood was just in time.
"In a minute." She spoke for the mercenary to hear, and applied a seductive smile on her face, advancing towards the guest with a vip tag tucked in his breast pocket. What made him pick this guy, was the fact that he was surrounded by women, and quite isolated from the rest of the guests. Perfect. "Hello. A nice evening, isnt it?" The blonde spoke slowly once she was near the man, and darted her gaze up and down him. The guy cleared his throat and excused himself from the other ladies, having them leave to mingle with others. "A nice evening indeed. Markus, to who do I own the pleasure?" Womenizers were the best targets. Ruby presented herself as Eva again, probably invading his personal space with cockiness. "Dont you think the mingling is a bit boring?" Her voice toned down, moving closer to the wall. Her plan was to get that tag somehow, and the only way that came to her mind was by seducing the guy. "I'm just waiting for a friend to come by, I could probably entertain you, Eva." The man's gaze was fixed on the woman's own, and she took advantage of the eye contact, to invade his space some more, by placing her free hand on his torso and sliding it up slowly. When it reached the pocket, she pressed gently against the edge of the tag that wasnt hidden in it, and covered it with her palm while moving it out of the pocket, towards the man's shoulder. "That sounds..great." She spoke to keep him distracted, while her hand reached the top of his shoulder, and let the card slide away, onto the floor. It took a nice turn, landing o the floor right next to the two's shoes, and Ruby balanced her weight from a leg to the other, stepping on the tag and allowing her dress to conceal it. The man leaned in to steal a kiss, but the blonde turned her head and looked over his shoulder. "I think there's someone calling for you. Later?" The man turned alarmed, and nodded to 'Eva', excusing himself. Once he was gone on a goosehunt, Ruby bent to pick up the tag and hurried towards Jacob.

It's a date! There's murder involved Walk upstairs was not an option, and from what Jacob could see, it was the only way up. He walked away from the guard who watched the staircase, to anyone looking he seemed collected, there was no reason for him to want to go upstairs, it was simply a mistake. Ruby responded to his summon, in a minute she said, her voice suggesting she was up to something. He scanned the room, trying to find his partner. Whatever idea she just had, he would let her do it, but he’d like to know if she was nearby, in case she needed assistance or something like that. She was a few meters away, in a more secluded corner of the room, talking with some stranger. She was awfully close to him, getting into his personal space, her hands delicately running through his body. Jacob crossed his arms, a slight glare on his face as he waited for Ruby to do whatever she was planning. He caught she take something from his pocket, but was too far away to identify what it was. It was so stupid how people, more specifically men, got easily distracted by a pretty face. The world could be exploding around them, but as long he had the presence of woman at his side, nothing else mattered. He rolled his eyes at how easily Ruby got what she wanted and the man was dismissed. If things were always that simple. A VIP tag, that was the prize. With that they would have access to the upstairs rooms, until the someone saw the name on the tag and the man reported the theft. They still had time, and hopefully it would be enough to finish the mission. “Nice going, and here was I thinking we would need to distract the guard somehow and sneak past him.” Jacob commented when she was close by. Sometimes the solution to problems was quite simple, and involved seducing fools. That little display only proved bringing Ruby was the right idea. Would it be suspicious to approach the guard so soon, now bearing a VIP permission? Perhaps, if Jacob was the one carrying it. But since it was Ruby who had the tag, maybe he wouldn’t even question it. Security seemed to be quite lax in this event. No cameras, only a handful of guards that looked better equipped to deal with drunken problem guests than real threats. It was like no one expected anything seriously bad to happen, Jacob was glad to prove them wrong. He walked once again towards the guard, gesturing for Ruby to show the tag to him. “We just need to step up for a bit.” He smiled pleasantly, the guard looked at him oddly, but said nothing and gave a passing glance at the VIP badge before letting them through. It wasn’t a long flight of stairs, and when he reached the top, there was a long corridor, closed doors left and right, and Jacob had no clue which one the target was holed up. At least it wasn’t crowded up there, so it should be easier to spot the man. “We’ll just have to look inside the room, one by one.” He told Ruby, a resigned tone on his voice. How long until someone noticed something wrong about them being upstairs and the guards came to interfere? He didn’t know, it could be an hour or twenty minutes, but it was bound to happen.
