Ruby Red Blackwood | A classic 20s woman? Did Max really think that Ruby would just allow her the luxury to fain while one of her friends was dying? She couldnt even comment on that, each time she summoned her voice, it felt like her eyes would drown in some sudden tears. Keeping her mouth shut was keeping herself sealed. Deep breaths..Calm down..Jacob wont die, he cant just die without even saying goodbye, he cant die today. She took Max's advice, trying to balance her inhaling and exhaling.
Max was fast to bring Jacob, and the hospital staff who got summoned did not waste any second in coming to help the drugged mercenary onto a stretcher and then hurrying him somewhere else. Ruby's fast breathing could be noticed from afar, one's ribcage should not flinch like that. Where did they take Jacob? Why wouldnt these useless nurses let her go there with him, why did they stop the blonde and the cop from following?? They had to follow to make sure Jacob wont die! A frown formed on the woman's face in both frustration and terror, getting sightly pissed off by how the staff did not allow them in there, wheverer that was. "We have to be there!" What if something happened to Birdy and none of them were next to him? Bad thought! Stop it!
With the personel asking questions, Ruby snapped back to reality, her actions being no longer blurred and the staff no longer seeming to move in slow motion. Her glare darted from the staff asking vital stuff to Max. "Uh..I..I..10 minutes ago, maybe?" Her brows relaxed and came closer constantly while she struggled to give correct answers and aproximate the timing. The way out the hotel, the ride, it was for about 10 minutes, maybe even less? She wasnt sure, but it coulnt have been longer. "He became all dizzy and lost balance, he..he..couldnt talk well or move, eventually he passed out" Why did this feel like a weird, dangerous interrogation? "I dont think so, I dont know of any allergies he has." Ugh, failed this one, she really had no idea. When Jacob would be back, and he will be, she would have to ask him that personally. The substance! A bulb lit in the blonde's head, her pupils dillating for a second. "Yes! I do." She had taken the syringe from the crime scene, there must be at least a drop left of that serum, either in the needle or the syringe itself. She searched frantically in the purse that hung unbothered at her shoulder. She really couldnt care about accessories, the purse, heels or shit like that, and apparently not dropping the bag had been a bonus. Red handed the syringe to the nurse, and the staff had noted some things down while scuttering to wherever they took Jacob to.
Max was no longer near her, Ruby panicked for a second, turning her head quickly to search for him, but spotting him in the next second walking back to her. He jumped in the protective big brother's role instantly, the two walking to the empty chairs in this waiting room, lounge, hall, whatever. Ruby had her hands on the back of her neck, letting her elbows hang close to her chest while doing what the cop told her earlier to do: deep breaths. As they sat on the chairs, Madden took off his coat and placed it on the blonde's shoulders, a very welcomed gesture at this hour. Evenings could get chilly, and now it was almost too late for anyone else to be on the streets anyway. She placed her elbows on her thighs, holding her face in her palms, but raising her head as she recieved the coat, lowering a hand to keep it closed for a moment while Max brought her even closer to himself. "Thanks." She couldnt manage more than a whisper right now. Her breath felt like it was being crushed.
His comforting tone and his concerned words helped in calming her down a great deal. She sighed silently, pressing her lips together and staring at the floor with a upset glare. "I'm ok, I dont need anything Max." I need to see Jacob on his feet again. She was terribly shaken by the thought that right now, Jacob's pulse could have went dead and the doctors would be just waiting for them two to calm down before breaking the news to them.
The shakiness in her voice made her eyes slowly get flooded as she broke the silence. "I'm scared, Max." Her lower lip trembled as she refused to let a single tear escape her pupils. "He has to be fine, he's Jacob, he cant die. I didnt know a mission could go so wrong. This whole fucking couple cover put him in danger, we could have done this without needing an alibi for god's sake." Soon she began ranting, her breathing jumping from time to time, yet there was one single tear running down her cheek. 20 Years of blocking emotion, all in vain. With the hand that didnt hold the coat closed, Ruby hugged Madden's middle, resting the side of her head close to his neck while he rested his own on her blonde hair. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |

[attr="class","petit"] [break] [attr="class","petitcontent"] [attr="class","petitcontentstyle"] [attr="class","petitfirstletter"]R Ruby felt the same desperation he had when they took Jacob away. They both wanted to be there, to be the man's watchful guardians if he were to disappear today. And only when he was sitting there, with Ruby in his arms did it hit him. What if Jacob never passed those doors again? What if today was the day the rabbit dies and Alice gets lost again? No one to remind Alice that time was ticking, that life had to be lived and not just sat through and wait for it to end. It seemed impossible that Jacob could die now, today and in this way. At their first meetings, Max would have imagined Jacob to die by his hand, and honestly he thought that it might have happened that day at the abandoned theme park. But no if Jacob died today it had to be by something only a coward would use. Poison, or whatever it was coursing the man's veins right now. Perhaps this situation had to remind Max of how much he loved the man, how much his presence used to frighten him at first, giving him shivers if respect until finally he fell for a criminal who hid his face to kill to get to his goals but couldn't bare to stay quiet in front of his own boss and see his friends die. If Jacob died today Max didn't know what would happen to him or Ruby. He would regret not spending enough time with the man, not being able to know about his past, not being able to sort his own feelings. Leaving a relation in suspense by death. It sounded like the worst type of torture for a living person. [break][break] Ruby kept saying she didn't need anything, but Max knew what she and he truly needed right now, it was to know if Jacob would get through the night or not. It was possibly the only thing that could appease them both. She them told him she was scared, and in her tone he could see she wasn't just saying that. He had no idea of what to do to make her feel better, except just be there. Ruby spoke, her voice shaking, seemingly on the verge of tears. So they were on a mission together? Max wondered who hired both an Enigma and Bianchi member to go on a mission together. It didn't matter so much, some of her words helped him understand a little bit more about what happened. He wished he was able to know even more, to get all the details like he was right there, to be able to know who was the coward who created this wreck. There was anger growing inside of him, but not towards Ruby. She seemed to be blaming herself for what happened, but Max simply didn't have enough information to know why. If he could he would find the culprit and get back to an old Max he had burned and buried a long, long time ago, one that will hurt the man responsible and kill him out of boiling blood. [break][break] Max saw a tear run down Ruby's cheek before her face disappeared into his chest. He moved a hand to her head, tangling his finger into those gold locks. There was a sense of déjà vu, like he knew this was going to happen, or it already happened in the past, with his sister. He didn't remember, the moment didn't allow him to piece anything together. "I'm scared too...But it's going to be okay, just let yourself go. I'm the only one watching." he found his voice to shake more that he had intended. No he wasn't to show any fear, he was to be the strong one to rely on, the one Ruby could count on without fearing of seeing him crumble. He wanted for Ruby to be able to cry all tears right now, to let herself go. There were chains on her, heavy ones that forbid her to show some very specific emotions. Crying seemed to be one of them. He never saw her cry before, and that one tear was proof that she was capable of doing so. Crying takes off weights, Max knows it better than anyone. Yelling does too but not in this occasion and in this spot. [break][break] He kept looking at the staff running around, wondering if they will get any news soon. Time seemed to fly by so slowly, it was unbearable. He wanted to get up, to pace around to tire himself and give his slowly urging nerves to calm down and focus on something as primal as walking. But he was afraid that by doing so, letting go of Ruby would leave her shattered in pieces. He didn't want to let her go, holding her tight without choking her to make sure she at least was still there and unharmed. He won't ask about the smeared lipstick. If Ruby was honest about their engagements then she will tell him. If not, then Max preferred not to bring it up at all. It wasn't what mattered right now, Max focused his anger on other things and he could feel the beating of his pulse climb because of it. He wanted to tell her, that he'll find the bastard who did this and get rid of him, send him underground for his mistake, but anger right now was not where he had to head. He needed to slide down calm paths to prepare for whatever may come. He believed Jacob will come out of this unharmed, but the fear that his beliefs might trick him was deep down rotting in his mind, killing his self-control. How could he be scared? He was a police officer, dealing with danger everyday (as much as Jacob and Ruby did too) and not fearing to step out of his comfort zone to just bring down some criminals. He was peobably scared of losing Birdy, losing the criminal whom he had befriended after some hateful actions. On that thought, Ruby remembered the dy she met Pierce. That shady alley, those rich guys, the whole misunderstanding that could have put them at the other's throat now sounded ridiculous. He had been after information, and she was after the guy's watch - it was like a scenario in a comedy movie. But somehow, they did not hate each other at the beginning either. They were quite peaceful around the other, she at least had shown some natural trust in him, blind respect. Maybe the three's friendship was a gift. Lost in those thoughts, visualising each image now while staring with half closed eyes at the floor, Ruby felt her cheek get warmer, meaning more tears came flowing . She felt perfectly safe in the French's embrace, but she wished to have been able to give that feeling to Jacob. Safety though did not make her any less worried, about what the doctors did and what they would say. "I just want to see him out of that room." Red was so glad he could not watch her cry, watch the blame cloud her emotions and sewing a new pattern on the friendship's pelt. While Blackwood didnt get the time to inspect the syringe, see the amount of serum that could have been stored in it, she hoped the medics did their best on trying to make Jacob healthy again. She felt Max's calming, reasurring hand run through her locks, silently telling her that all will be fine. But what if it wont be? What if Jacob Pierce gave his last breath there, on that hospital bed? All those memories, all those events, the kiss... Ruby would be too shattered to even attempt to raise herself from the ground. Losing one of the two men meant losing..her family. A different kind of family, not like Enigma was. The mafia was her soul group, her home, her adoptive family. But these two were a bit more than that. She couldnt name her feelings for them both, without hurting herself or them, and the best way to keep this was as a free relationship. But that was complicated right now. Even if Max Madden gave her the permission to cry, she couldnt bring herself to breaking down like a little girl. Big girls dont cy, and yet the tears streaming down her face told otherwise. It was an irony that her eyeliner was waterproof, but a proof of her paranoia, thinking it was better to be safe than sorry, in everything. There were footsteps being heard from the corridor in front of them, a tall silhokuette marching towards the two. Ruby felt the need to break this embrace and look as if she could handle stuff on her own, lowering her head as she put the normal distance now between herself and the cop, running a hand across her cheekbones to wipe away the tears. A doctor approached them, with a small clipboard in his hand hanging at his side. Red's hands were obviously trembling from the sight of the medical staff member, bracing herself for the worst but on the verge on having a panic attack. "Hi, I'm Doctor Trench. We have news on your friend."

Post by Jacob Pierce on Dec 28, 2015 1:57:49 GMT 2
It's a date! There's murder involved The patient was stable, in the end the case wasn’t so severe, Max and Ruby had been quick to bring Jacob to the hospital, and there was also the needle that was used to identify the substance injected. The doctors and nurses were quick to treat the man. The doctor approached Jacob Pierce’s friends, his expression serious. “We have identified the drug as ketamine, there was a dangerous amount of it on his bloodstream that caused the beginning of an overdose. Fortunately, he was brought her quickly, and we managed to treat it before anything too serious happened. He should be waking up soon, but we’d like to keep him here for at least a couple of days to monitor his condition.” The doctor finished the speech with small smile. Meanwhile, in one of the infirmaries, Jacob slowly regained consciousness. He felt sluggish and nauseous, like he had drunk an entire bottle of vodka by himself in one go. It took a few minutes for him to gather his wits and look where he was, there was an incessant beeping coming from somewhere on his left. The first thing he noticed when he opened his eyes was that the room was very white. He tried to lift his hand to rub his tiered eyes, and caught sight of tubes and needles coming out of it, and he finally realized he was at the hospital. Frowning in annoyance, he looked around, expecting to see Ruby and Max there to mock him, but he was alone. How did he get here, anyway? He was at the hotel with Ruby and they were… just the thought made his face warm up, before he made the mistake of shaking his head, and immediately felt sick. Jack White had poisoned him, now he remembered. He had panicked and Ruby was there to help, but after that everything was blur, he thought Max could be involved somehow, but that might just have been his imagination. Apparently he wasn’t dead, and although he generally hated hospitals, he felt grateful Ruby managed to bring him here, poisoning was not something he could treat by himself. Where was she though? He wanted to talk to her. The door to his right opened with a soft sound, and a nurse entered the room, looking surprised in see Jacob awake. She approached his bed, checking his vitals and softly asking question on how he felt. “Dizzy, nauseous, like a chewed up piece of paper that was spit out.” His tongue felt heavy on his mouth, the words difficult to force out. The nurse nodded with slight scoff, seeming satisfied “We’ll have to keep you here for a few days, but you’ll be fine” her voice was very kind, but Jacob still frowned at the thought he had to stay here. “Was there a woman with me?” He asked, deciding against complaining for now. “Is she still around? Can you call her?” He didn’t like how needy he sounded, be he really could do with a familiar face around here. “I’ll see if you can receive any visitors.” The nurse answered before exiting the room, leaving Jacob alone with his thoughts once again.

A murderous & Poisonous
[break] [attr="class","petitsub"]

[attr="class","petit"] [break] [attr="class","petitcontent"] [attr="class","petitcontentstyle"] [attr="class","petitfirstletter"]R Max closed his eyes, taking in all the pressure of the moment, on the edge of letting it all out in anger. Ruby's presence was comforting to him, but she didn't make him feel safe. That was a feeling no one ever managed to truly give to him. He had to count on himself for that. But it didn't matter, he was the shell to the cat now and didn't want it to be the other way around. "I know. I promise he'll be fine." and if he's not I'm here to make sure you are. He wished he could deal in better ways with emotion, able to be like her and be strong in any situation. Because despite the tears running on her delicate cheeks, she was still a woman with the strength of a thousand, one that bowed to no other than herself. Max accepted that from the day she stood up to Shaun. She stood until broken, and even then she was able to piece everything back together like before. All he could think about was to find the words to comfort her, find something to do that could make her feel better. But there was just no right answers, just the wrong ones, the ones you don't use because they'll destroy everything in sight, starting with the people he cared about. [break][break] "I give you my word Jacob is not dying, not ever on my watch." and now he was making a promise he was afraid he won't ever be able to keep, even if Jacob didn't die tonight. Their way of living was dangerous for all three of them, but who didn't love to live a life with an edge to it? They are the dancing living crap of the earth, they don't care about what may or may not happen, and perhaps that is something Max shouldn't forget. He chose this, he chose a path to follow to make the best out of the two. He never imagined it would go this far. Befriending them was supposed to be an alibi, something to be able to catch them like some animals you feed before bringing them to the slaughter. Turns out the civilized remembered how being an animal was like, and how much family meant among them. They were his everything, his life, his wonderland, his escape plan for the life he had to live. Alice was there, somewhere in this mess, somehow her memory being the life source of all of this. She would have told Max that the mad people are the ones who need help, not the sane ones. That the mad are the ones you should care about and that will make your life worth living. [break][break] His trail of thoughts were stopped and perhaps partly erased when Ruby started to move, backing away from him. He thought at first that she was getting upset before he noticed that a doctor was coming in their direction. Son of a bitch, Jacob was fine. That's was the first thing Max thought about when the news were spoken. He shot a look at Ruby before getting up urgently. "Can we see him?" he asked a hint of worry in his tone. The doctor shook his head with a sorry look. "Not at the moment no. There should be a nurse taking care of him, I'll let you know when he's ready to receive visitors." The doctor might as well say no, Max knew Ruby won't take that for an answer. He blurted out a quick thank you before turning to Ruby. Leaving the warmth of her body to be confronted to what seemed to be a freezing hallway was a strange reminder of how nice it was to have someone at your side during emotionally driven moments. He took her by the shoulders, as if to make sure she won't start bursting out through the doors to get to Jacob's room. "Hear that? Jacob's fine and he doesn't have any permanent damage. He'll be up in no time. We can wait for that nurse here okay?" hearing himself talk this was was so strange, it sounded awful. He felt like some adult talking to a kid, and he truly wanted to apologies for that but found no strength to do so. He just wanted to get out a few reassuring words and be done with it. He was so bad with words it was unbearable sometimes. "Sèche tes larmes, il sera content de te voir. Il va ce reposer et toi aussi...." (dry your tears, he'll be happy to see you. He's going to rest and so will you) Somehow his french words felt so much better to his ears, but it was ridiculous to use them, Ruby wouldn't understand. Hopefully she'll understand his urge to try to make her feel better. If she would let him, Max would take her face between his hands and wipe away her tears with his thumbs, forcing out a smile when his jaw muscles refused to move properly. [break][break] Soon enough a nurse came to them, to tell them that Jacob could get visitors. "He was asking for you a lot." she said, looking at Ruby with a reassuring smile. Jacob probably didn't even know Max was there and since he and Ruby were on the same mission, it was normal to ask for her to be on his side, to make sure she was alright. On a good team, strong bonds could be made, and these two probably built a solid one tonight. Max would hurry to the indicated room number after giving a thank you to the nurse and making sure Ruby was following. As he got in front of it, he would walk in, either by opening quietly the door himself or by letting Ruby do it. Jacob was inside, seemingly awake and fine. However Max would not get close, he'd stay at the door and leave some room for Ruby to get the the mercenary. He felt a weight lift from his chest as he leaned against the closed door, all pressure he felt earlier was gone. The anger was still there however, boiling deep within and craving to know about the person responsible for this. He will wait there, at the door, calmly regaining composure to give himself some life back. Blood must have been slowly leaving his face, leaving him as pale as a clean cloth, he didn't want to appear like some cadavre to a man who just escaped becoming one. All those reasurring words contributed to building up (or more like, keeping alive and unshattered) the woman's faith, her belief that Jacob will indeed be just fine. It was funny if you looked back at it, at the hotel and in the car, Ruby was the one to keep telling the mercenary how nothing bad was going to happen to him, and how he'll be feeling good again in no time. But now, on the cold and empty halls of the hospital, only Max was there to try his best at keeping her hopes up. It seemed like even if one acted tough and tried to be the shoulder other could cry and rely on, they needed someone to support them too. Like a loop, a well balanced team. When the Bianchi event happened (since that's how Ruby referred to it) , Max and Jacob had both been there to support her, hold her tight at their chests and make sure she would be back on her feet in no time. Now, Max and Ruby should be Jacob's new pillars, until he would be able to sustain himself again.
Red took Madden's promise at its fullest, placing her whole trust in his words. If the cop said Jacob will be fine, then he must be. No way around it, no way Pierce could have something else happening to him if Max did not agree. It sounded like a childlish thought to taake a simple promise for granted, but it did more than the man could expect. And she was speechless.
As the doctor continued his short speech, Ruby's hands glued to her face once again, her palms hidding her mouth and nose in a concerned gesture. She let Max listen to the man, while her eyes shut themselves to block out all the tears and to allow her to gather herself once again. Moments like these make desperate people use desperate ways to get what they want, and right now Ruby wanted Jacob to be ok. Her family was Jewish, she was an Atheist, but in the moment she directed a simple "please" to Anyone reading her thoughts. Her breathing calmed down a few minutes ago, the doctor's news only aiding her to be less close to freaking out. A deep, relieved sigh escaped her lips, and she mentally thanked Max, the hospital staff and whoever was up there loving the three.
As soon as the doctor left, seemingly thinking the two wont go tackle Jacob with their hugs (not literally at least) , Ruby wiped away the tears from one cheek, swallowing hand and getting up from her seat as well. Max, on the other hand, was there to stop her from checking on Pierce. She gazed at him expectantly, trying to guess why he was blocking her path, before listening to his reasoning. She was still shaky, truth to be told. "Yeah, he's fine, it's all good. This was the worst scare ever, dammit." Red shook her head, a hand constantly trying to brush away the wetness on her cheeks. She never thought she would ever be so relieved and so glad to hear someone didnt die, or to actually be in tears out of fear. Her family despised weakness, and now she was a shame to them. But her real family, her pack, her everything, Enigma, Max and Jacoib proved to her that showing emotion did not meant being weak. Ruby let Max caress her tears away, hugging him in the end to show her thankfulness for all his support. It was probably the most sincere and warm hug she ever distributed, not considering the one at the aquarium. "Thank you, Max."
It didnt take long for a nurse to finally let them know they could visit Jacob, and Ruby was so eager to see him well, with her own eyes, her look instantly went to the hall towards the mercenary's room when the person approached. Asking for her? So he woke up too. Even better, less worries that he'll slip into a coma or simply die out of nowhere. Blackwood followed the cop to the mercenary's room, gently grabbing his arm at some point, to try and give herself the strength to avoid crying again by simply feeling the man's presence. She was too much of a coward to grab his hand though.
She let go before the door came in sight, and hurried towards it, opening it slowly and peeking through for a second before opening it more and more to allow herself and Max to enter. Her worried gaze landed on Jacob, seeing him connected to all those..things, and spotting so many tubes attached to him, it was not a sight she wished to cast her gaze upon, ever again, be it him or Max on the bed. "Jacob." Her once shaky, now well balanced, voice called softly for his name, relief clear in her tone. The woman approached his bed, inspecting everything attached to him to make sure she wont mess anything up, before attempting to hug him, as the bed allowed. "Dont you fucking dare scare me like that again" She said with humor, though hoping he would listen, breaking the hug and pointing a finger at him with a concerned but glad that the bad was over, smile.

Post by Jacob Pierce on Dec 30, 2015 19:19:49 GMT 2
It's a date! There's murder involved After a few minutes of waiting Jacob was convinced he couldn’t receive any visitors right now. What they expect him to do by himself in a boring, colorless room? Ugh, each time he was forced to stay more than ten minutes at a hospital, Jacob was reminded of every little reason why he hated them in the first place. It wasn’t only they staff’s constant need to know everything about his life, though that was also a reason, but it could be so boring and lonely, he got antsy just have to wait around until his body decided to cooperate and the doctors were always finding more excuses to keep him in bed for longer than necessary. This time, however, he knew it was really serious, his body still felt tired and nauseous, he couldn’t really get up and start running around, still, he liked to have the option to leave. Some more minutes passed, and Jacob believed if Ruby was there before, she probably would have grown tired of waiting and left. Hopefully she would come the next day, and wouldn’t leave him rotting in a hospital bed by himself. The nurses also seemed intent on not bothering him, he wasn’t sure what the time was, but it should be either pretty late or very early, the only thing he could do was to go back to sleep, so he closed his eyes and tried to relax. He was close to falling asleep when the door opened softly, and Jacob thought it would be another nurse and prepared himself to answer another round of questions, but when he looked up, it was the familiar figure of Ruby who stepped inside. Her posture seemed distressed, and look of worry upon her features. He waved slightly at her a small smile on his face, his hand had several tubes and wires attached to it, not a pretty sight. There was something about the way she said his name, perhaps it was the near death experience, perhaps it was the relief that could clearly be heard on her tone, it left him unsure how he should react. Then there were those moments spent before everything went wrong, that kiss that should mean so much, but at the same time could mean nothing, Jacob wasn’t sure what to say, how to reassure Ruby that he was fine. And then she hugged him, he was used to Max being the touchy person, Ruby usually kept her distance (except when she didn’t, and then kisses happened, but Jacob wasn’t thinking about that.) He accepted the hug, wrapping his arms around the woman with barely any hesitance. It was a very brief contact, that she ended to scold him playfully, but the worry in her words hadn’t gone away yet. “I’m sorry.” He said sincerely, he wasn’t sure what he was apologizing for. How much he screwed up the mission, for letting himself be distracted, for putting her in danger, for kissing her when he knew she already had Max, even though Ruby was the one who started it. “I wa- Thank you, Ruby, for helping me, really.” He said a bit awkwardly but still honest, he wasn’t used to have someone watching his back anymore, he didn’t know what would’ve happened to him if she wasn’t there, he never expected the target to be so competent in fighting. His eyes trailed away from her, distractedly going to the door, noticing for the first time Ruby wasn’t the only one on the room. Max was standing there, leaning against the door casually, and not saying anything. “Max?” He called, surprise on his voice. Ruby’s must’ve called him, told him what happened. At that thought a wave of guilty washed over him, he didn’t know if Ruby had said anything about the kiss, but it didn’t matter, Jacob felt like he betrayed his friend terribly, and he could barely speak through the lump that formed on his throat. He swallowed dry, licking his lips before pushing the words out “Wh- Since when you’re here? Why are you just standing over there?” He could very well guess why. Was Max furious with him? Just waiting for Jacob to get better to start demanding explanations he did not have… He looked away in shame, staring at the IV attached to his arm so he wouldn’t have to face Max.

[break] [attr="class","petitsub"] Date
[attr="class","petit"] [break] [attr="class","petitcontent"] [attr="class","petitcontentstyle"] [attr="class","petitfirstletter"]M ax didn't want to feel good about it, but seeing Ruby giving in to a few tears felt somewhat reassuring. That she was able to release some of her stress in that way, perhaps something she hasn't done in a long time. Yeah Max definitely felt bad about that thought. What was thought was thought, and no one will hear about it. She wrapped her arms around him to hug his frame, and he welcomed it warmly. His mind was being apologetic for something Ruby didn't even know about. Silently apologizing for making her go through this, for witnessing her weaker moments, for having to support her. He wouldn't want to act differently however, he was just wishing his help wouldn't ever have been necessary. After breaking the hug and waiting a little while until the nurse came to give them the good news, Max was yet again surprised Ruby was relying so much on his presence. He felt her touch on his arm, understanding she probably wanted to keep him close, to avoid losing him as well. She seemed so emotionally wrecked, it wasn't an easy sight to witness. Max wished he could go back in time and do everything in his power to avoid tonight's accident, and avoid having to see Ruby that way. It wouldn't be the first time. After the 'dinner' with Shaun, she had been an emotional wreck as well. But this time it was different, the feelings involved were far from being the same. [break][break] Ruby walked into the room, giving Jacob what he seemed to need to feel better. The man was awake, and despite the sight of all the tubes and needles stuck into him, he seemed to be doing fairly well for someone who was on the verge of dying about an hour ago. The reason why Max kept his distance was purely to make sure those two had enough space to talk and let some emotions out. Ruby was slowly getting her control back, and that made the cop intensely impressed and respectful. She was being strong for Jacob, a noble way of dealing with it all. It was a quality Max appreciated a lot in Ruby, her ability to control her emotions so well when it mattered. He remembered how Jacob hated hospitals, and how he got bored easily. Last time he wasn't completely alone, Max was there to talk, but this time no one was bound to stay at his side. If Ruby wasn't able to stay at his side, Max would attempt to get a few days off from work to take care of the man, keep him company as much as he could. Hopefully he wouldn't have to stay in the hospital for too long. [break][break] After Jacob addressed him, Max smiled, without even having to force himself too much. Ruby and he were done with their reminiscing, Max didn't mind getting closer now. He walked to the same side of the bed Ruby was knelt next to it, to be at Jacob's level. He took the man's hand carefully avoiding any of the IV tubes and pressing it cautiously. He had in memory the lipstick, smeared on both the man and the woman's lips. But for as much as Max knew, there was no use, no reason to get angry at anyone now. He trusted in them to be honest, a blind trust probably, but right now his mind couldn't go to any levels of anger. "Hey, nice to see you." Max wanted to come up with something witty to say, to lighten up the mood as well, but everything he came up with was just on the lines of 'would have been a shame to lose the white rabbit' or other things that only reminded how Jacob just escaped death. He eventually let go of the man's hand, his thumb caressing the inside of his palm affectionately. Max then looked around the room. There was only one chair, which he brought to Ruby before he remained standing, watching Jacob on his bed, feeling like this was almost like a nightmare turned into a simple dream. [break][break] The cop was emotionally exhausted, and also tired from his long day. And the day got even longer. Lucius was still in the car, and soon he'll go back to check on him. He felt like if he went back to the car now he'll just lay inside on the back seats and fall asleep there with Lucius. Though was it all the wave of emotions or the fatherly affection he grew for the pup that made him eager to check back on him very badly now that he knew Jacob was fine? He looked at his watch. It was late, very late. He sighed, resigned that he needed to check on the pup. "I have Lucius in the car. I'll go check on him and I'll be back in ten minutes." on those words he walked out, forgetting Ruby still had his coat. [break][break] How how Lucius's range of emotions went on a roller coaster when he saw Max come back but leave a few minutes later after taking the pup on a walk again around the parking bushes. Max felt bad for his little companion, but if he could understand human language, he would agree with his master's decision of leaving him in the car. On his way back, Max bought a cup of coffee, and one of tea. He also bought a can of coke. He returned to the room, avoiding the staff, knowing how iffy they were about food and drinks in patients room. "Hey, Lucius says hi." he said, using his hip to close to door. He gave the cup of tea to Ruby, thinking she needed something to relax more than something to keep her awake. He showed Jacob the can of coke. "So I brought this, but for obvious reasons I think you should keep it for later." he put it in one of the drawers of the room's nightstands. He set the cup of coffee for himself on the floor and between his back and his belt was stuck Lucius' stuffed bunny. It wasn't too dirty or stinky since Max put it in the washer the day before, but it still smelled like dog. He set it on the nightstand before sitting on the floor. Hospital floors, the cleanest you'll ever get. He sighed and leaned against the wall, giving a slight smile at Jacob then at Ruby. "Don't frighten us like this ever again Jacob, it's exhausting." he chuckled. He wanted to suggest Ruby to get some sleep, maybe he could even drive her back home if she wanted, baby sit Lucius while he drove back here to keep an eye on Jacob. He'll wait a little for that, Ruby may look tired, but she surely wouldn't want to leave Jacob just yet, and neither did Max. Ruby tried to keep her scold as light as possibly, regarding the tone and the seriousness of her words. Being angry or passing as that right now would be a mistake, Jacob did not deserve any anger. Red was deep dowm angry at herself for not having had taken better care of her partner, for indirectly allowing the cunt of a target to poison the man. He could have died because of her, right on the spot. But he was fine now, right? That was all that mattered.
After playfully scolding him and recieving that honest apology, Ruby's lips pressed together, like she was secretly desperately trying to keep her composure and not cry again, for no reason now. She offered him a reasurring smile too, a bit taken aback of his thanking. "It's what friends are for." The blonde's beginning of the sentence trembled a bit from her stressed sigh, while she now aimed to let eveyone, including herself, cool down a bit. She raised her glare on the screen indicating Jacob's status, and took a few steps away from the man's side to grab the small clipboard attached at the edge of his bed with his prescription and cause of poisoning. Ketamine my ass, you dont fucking play with this shit, White. Her thoughts were fuelled by hate, now that the worry left some room to be used.
Red let Max exchange a few words with Jacob too, white her arms folded still in a concerned manner, her hand moving to her face and brushing away a blonde locks, constantly darting her eyes from Jacob's face to Max's, and back on the mercenary's gestures, be those as vague as they could be. She was constantly trying to regain aa normal pattern of breathing, amd therefor a slower heartbeat rate. No more worries. Except... Ugh, guilt had to strike back at her.
She would have to talk to Max soon, tell him what happened, explain to him that foolish "heat of the momemt" kiss - which she just tried to tell herself it had no emotional ties - and hope that he wont get mad at her, nor Jacob. They probably saw her as some random woman, searching for fuck buddies and dumping the rest, at this point. But her loyalty went far beyond the gang ties, and she just couldnt sleep at night knowing she had lied or hid something from a loved one. The cases were rare, given her "social skills" , but they were a massacre for her feelings. Though first, she had to talk to Jacob. Ask, or explain too what happened, and hear what he has to say regarding the lustful moment that ended so not well. She couldnt just tell Max it meant nothing, if Pierce told her otherwise, it would be close to a lie she couldnt be proud of telling.
The French offered her a chair, perhaps seeing the tired state she was in, both physically and psychically. But they were all like that, she deduced. Max needed sleep too, Jacob needed rest the most. But they had no chance of leaving him alone in the hospital. Ruby thanked for the offered seat, when her phone buzzed. "I'll have my contact clean that place up while I cant. I'll be back in a minute, excuse me." She stated with a sigh, dialing the number back and giving Jacob a "dont die while i'm gone" look, her empty hand brushing against the French's arm while she left the room, to let him know he was in charge of watching Jacob and keeping him company for the next two or three minutes.
Ruby would return in less than five minutes, putting her phone back in its place and entering the room again, but seeing as Madden went to check on...Lucius? He must have renamed the pup, she thought, and nodded. "Do you need anything, Jacob? The doctor said they'll keep you under observation for some more days, but we'll come visit you daily. No nurse outfit, I promise." Ruby tried to raise his moral and smiled a bit, not capable herself of doing more at the moment. She deep down wanted to touch the kiss' subject, but it was not the time nor the place to do so.
Max returned quickly, showing his care towards the two and gladly not neglecting his needs either. Ruby took the cup of tea in her hands, giving him yet another thank you today with an appreciating look, and redirected her emotionally dried smile at the little plush toy. "Maybe we can snatch the puppy here sometime, I heard pets speed up one's healing process." More psychically though, yet she did let that thought be expressed. She looked at Max sitting on the floor and stood up from her chair, thinking it was unacceptable of him to do such thing. "Dont sit on the floor, you're not a dog, Max. I'll go steal another chair. Just..dont." Why was she even so..caring, so warm right now? This was a whole different side of the Blackwood individual, and she momentarily had no shame of showing that she could be a nice human being.

Post by Jacob Pierce on Jan 1, 2016 20:25:54 GMT 2
It's a date! There's murder involved Friends, he had two of those now, there to watch his back and help him when he got poisoned by some prick. It was a two way road, Jacob had saved both of them at least once, going as far as risk his life for Ruby, that should have been the moment he realized this relationship run far deeper than he would ever expect, but it took him almost dying for Jacob realize he wasn’t the only one who felt this way. The word friend many times was just thrown around like a meaningless thing that could be easily replaced, but for him, it was much more important, he had been calling those two friends for a while now, and the events of this nigh proved to him that it wasn’t only him grasping to a relationship bound to end badly, the feeling was completely mutual, and he was grateful for that. Ruby wasn’t completely unaffected by Jacob’s state, she was holding herself back, putting on a strong face, for Jacob’s sake or to avoid showing weakness, he didn’t know, but that mask of false composure had its cracks, her voice trembling, the way her eyes had red tinge to it like she was crying a few minutes ago. He wouldn’t be the one to point any of that out, she was trying so hard, there was no need to bring the mood down even more. “I guess it is. I’m glad you were there, though.” He still thought he wouldn’t have been so lucky to get out of there if he had gone by himself. There was still the glaring issue of that kiss, there were so many things left unsaid, or maybe that was just Jacob, and it meant nothing to Ruby. It had to be discussed nonetheless, no more misunderstandings, wasn’t that when they had decided when they first met? Right now was not the moment though. Jacob had just come back from almost being poisoned, he was weak and Max was also there. They had all the time of the world to touch on that subject, just… not now. Max’s first reaction to hearing his name come from Jacob was to smile, so perhaps he didn’t know what had happen yet. He was just concerned, waiting to be noticed before approaching. Jacob who was still staring at the tubes attached to him, saw as the cop took his hand in a gentle grip, a greeting and a reassurance. It only made Jacob’s guilt grow, to see his friend acting so caring, and Jacob had unknowingly betrayed his trust. There was heaviness in his chest that had very little to do with his physical condition and he felt like blurting everything right there, but again, now was not the time. When the man spoke, Jacob finally gathered enough courage to look up and shoot a tiny smile, he didn’t know how to respond however. The contact ended with slight caress from Max, so affectionate, a little indication of how much he cared, and that was Max’s mistake, care for a disloyal criminal like himself only caused destruction. The cop was always the nice one, he offered the only chair in the room to Ruby while he remained standing. Ruby’s phone buzzed shortly after, and she went to step out of the room, but not before warning Jacob to stay alive. “Sure, I promise to do my best.” He said to her back and Jacob was left alone with Max. “It seems we can’t stop saving each other, it’s getting out of control.” He told Max, slight hint of humor in his voice. He just wanted to things be simple again, not be stuck on a hospital bed or be drowning in guilt because of one stupid action, was that too much to ask? Yes, it was. He stared at Max for a few moments, the confession at the tip of his tongue “Max, I have to te-” but he was cut out by the door opening and Ruby returning. He cut himself out, the courage draining from him and he’d like to say things when she wasn’t around anyway… it would just be easier. Soon Max was also leaving the room, to take care of… Lucius?? “Who the hell is Lucius?” He asked Ruby when they were alone, confusion clear on face. Her question made him let out an annoyed huff, the reminder that he was stuck there was not a nice one. “Yeah, I need to get out of this hospital fast, but I don’t think you can help me with that.” Stupid doctors and their stupid rules. But Ruby in that nurse outfit, definitely something Jacob didn’t need to think about at that moment. Back then when he was at the hospital with Max, he hadn’t looked twice at Ruby and her revealing costume, unaffected as always by this kind of allure, but now it felt like a switch was turned, and suddenly he didn’t felt so indifferent anymore to that. It was best if he just didn’t think too much about it, or he would be able to control his blushing. “Yes, please. Leave the nurse costume out of it.” For his sanity’s sake. It didn’t take very long for Max to return, bearing thoughtful gifts even. Jacob eyed the cola can, wanting to drink it immediately, but he knew the man was right. “Did you bring that for me to stare and wish I could drink it? So cruel.” His voice was whiny but he shot max a thankful look anyway, thanks seemed very prominent in his vocabulary today. He probably would drink it as soon as there was no one watching, Coke was like his smuggled drug apparently. The cop also brought little Max’s bunny toy, putting it on nightstand. “Max is here too? I feel so loved.” He said after Ruby’s suggestion. The doctors and nurses would have a fit if they found a puppy in Jacob’s room, he’d like to see that. Max could complain all he wanted, but sometimes he acted so much like a dog it wasn’t even funny. Specially with his habit of sitting on the ground. Ruby protested, unable to hold back the caring nature she usually kept hidden, Jacob liked when she let that side of her be seen. “You can sit beside me Max, the doctors aren’t watching.” He patted the bed on his side, it should be enough space for Max to sit down if he didn’t sprawled around too much.

[break] [attr="class","petitsub"] Date
[attr="class","petit"] [break] [attr="class","petitcontent"] [attr="class","petitcontentstyle"] [attr="class","petitfirstletter"]I t's what friends are for. Ruby took away his words, letting him look at her with an agreeing nod. It didn't take him very long to get into a very calm state. Perhaps he was too calm, conditioning his energy in thoughts here and there, very fleeting ones, ones that didn't matter so much, or bits of information incomplete because they got lost in mist. His mind was like a butterfly, fluttering in a cold winter night, fog circling it until slowly, its wings froze, just like time. If he didn't have a watch then perhaps he would have lost track of that thing everyone calls time, that thing that mattered so much an hour earlier, but now no one worried about it any longer. And yes, those two were his friends, and every time a part of his mind was reminding him why they were this way in the first place, the rest of the cop's mind would get angry to fight off perhaps what was the reasonable part of his mind. But they hurt no one with their way of being. No one outside of themselves. In fact, Max liked to believe less people got hurt because of this relationship, simply because he was keeping Ruby and Jacob busy, that all three of them were keeping each other out of harm's way. Like today. Jacob was indeed at the hospital and almost died poisoned, but he was alive, because Ruby and he were there for him. He felt honored in some way to be able to have and keep such a strong relationship. It's not something many people can claim to have. You could say they found each other in a hopeless place. [break][break] After bringing a chair to Ruby, she quickly got up again to answer her ringing phone. He wondered who could possibly be calling her right now. A contact cleaning after the mess, from what he understood out of her few words before she left, a hand brushing along Max's arm. It was a reassuring gesture, also telling Max not to move perhaps, to stay there and take care of Jacob while she was gone. Ruby was still afraid that the man wasn't out of harm's hands, and it was understandable. And that little gesture, the invisible one, was what made Max understand why he couldn't be angry at them about that supposed kiss. He had no idea of what happened, and it shouldn't matter. What will happen will happen, he wasn't the one that was going to crush their lungs in hopes of an answer to a question that might not need one. He looked at Jacob, waiting for Ruby to come back before, like he planned, he would go take care of Lucius. [break][break] Jacob spoke. His voice sounded so tired yet full of life. The effects of escaping death probably. He was always there for humor, and succeeded in it so much better than Max. The cop smiled, shaking his head and crossing his arms, taking a deep breath with a kind look oriented to Jacob's direction. His eyes trailed along the tubes, stopping on the IV bag, then to the heart monitor. Everything seemed in order, nothing that was alarming. Except for the fact that Jacob was yet again in a hospital bed. Max would have preferred sending him ten times himself to the hospital than to get to experience his friend almost dying once again. "Yes we do save each other's lives a lot lately. But you know what? I prefer that than to have to mourn you or Ruby as many times as we saved each other." he cocked his head to the side, simply glad that what he was saying was a fact and not just a wish. That so far, he didn't have to mourn anyone close to him. In fact, the only person he ever had to mourn, was the Max that died in the New York streets about 15 years ago. Silence reigned for the few minutes Ruby was on the phone, however just before she came back, something grew in Jacob's eyes, something Max never noticed in him before. He started a sentence, but didn't finish it. He got cut off by Ruby coming back inside. Max's head went to her, but before she was back in her seat, his eyes looked at Jacob, his cold blue eyes filled with an understanding. A silent understanding of what Jacob might have been wanting to say. It seemed to be important, and with one look, it was like he was showing that he will remember that. The most insignificant of things, sometimes stick forever. Honesty does too. [break][break] He didn't want to be cruel to Jacob by bringing him coke, but he knew the whiny tone of the man betrayed that he understood his words. He brought it because he knew the man loved that drink, but he also knew it could be a bad thing for his health right now. And thus he'll have to drink it while the nurses weren't watching, and possibly tomorrow. Max had no idea when he'll be going home himself, and didn't think any of the medical staff would actually bring Jacob coke even if he begged for it. So he had to to it in advance, just in case he couldn't bring anything the next time he visited. He gave a chuckle to the man, but found no words to answer. "Yes, Max like you call him is also known as Lucius. He was in the car keeping your legs warm when you were...on your way here." Max explained Lucius' reaction to the situation, thinking it might bring some smiles to the two. At the same time he crouched to lean against the wall behind him. It felt nice to rest his head there. [break][break] But apparently, him sitting on the floor wasn't acceptable. His action was met immediately with the two's protesting against it. Ruby was already off her chair, and Max rolled his eyes, leaning even more into the wall, crossing his arms around his knees with a slight smirk. It was just the floor, and it was more comfortable to him that a simply hospital chair. Ruby should just join him down here and rest as well, he wouldn't mind serving as some pillow for an hour or two, until the hospital staff found them of course. He got up however, to kindly push Ruby back into the chair. She was the one who needed it the most anyway. Her kind gesture was noted however, just like all the other ones she had been giving ever since his arrival. Max considered Jacob's suggestion of sitting next to him. He didn't see much of an inconvenient to it, and who knew if they would let him get away with sitting on the floor like a 'dog'. He walked around the bed so he could sit next to Jacob, leaning his back against the bed's head, that way he would be able to see both of them. He let one of his hands find Jacob's once again, so he could feel the man's pulse under his fingers. It was reassuring to a level Max didn't expect, those small veins in Jacob's wrist, regularly pulsating against the cop's thin finger skin. He was to be strong, to be there for these two. But was it the contact, the pulse, the fact that he could feel the man's warmth, the warmth of the living next to him, was it all those elements that made Max's throat swell up as well as the growing pressure within? He gulped down slowly, breathing steadily to keep this ridiculous reaction in him. "When are you two going to let me sit on the floor? Am I not allowed?" he asked, bringing his mind to a concrete subject. Jacob seemed to be confused on the dog topic, Lucius ws also a name nothing like Max, so you couldnt even guess by association that it was the pup's new name. It somehow sounded fancy, but it was just a dog, and also Madden's pick for his companion's calling. Max the cop also seemed to be pretty set on ruining the criminals' fun of toying with the names. "I don't remember approving of a name change, you'll have to get him a new name certificate." Ruby was mostly joking, the papers proving how the dog was acquired legally didn't actually request the animal's name. And thinking about the poor animal, he must be locked in the car again, bored to death. Ruby felt guilty for calling Max like that and poor Lucius suffering without being his fault. But if the cop did not answer to her summon, who knows what might have happened to Jacob? "I'm not really good at smuggling patients out of a hospital, to be honest. Finding a place to hide you would be difficult." Red smiled, all of them started to at least try to enlighten the mood, and she should be able to contribute. However, the woman left out the "can't hide you under my dress" comment, since she did not feel comfortable (for the first time, when it came to jokes) enough right now to make such joke. Silence filled the room once more, only to be shooed away by Jacob's words regarding the dog. Blackwood had the sudden impulse to tell him how he is in fact loved, by both her and perhaps Max too. But it didnt feel right either, just as that kinky joke. Was she losing her 'no-filter' policy? Hopefully not, or she would go insane pretty fast. she swallowed the words, only offering him another small smile, a strange sense of empathy in her features since she had came here. A rarity around the assassin, but once you broke through her barriers, you became one of the few people to actually witness such sides of her. Blackwood sat up from the chair offered by Max, planning on going to 'fetch' (by actually just grab without telling or asking) another chair, from the nearest rooms. Jacob came with a suggestion quickly, and at least Madden acted less like a real dog. Joking was fun, but in moments like these, Ruby lost all the power to mock a person. Humor was still there, just not the heartless mocking. "You'll sit on the floor when we tell you to." Red nodded once, raising a brow and letting Max know that his 'dog' label certainly did not fall off. In any case, whenever the doctors or nurses came to check on Pierce, the French would need to move his ass. Ruby went towards the door, grabbing the knob and twisting it to peek outside and check if anyone was passing by, but to her surprise she got greeted by a nurse wanting to actually enter the room. She jumped a bit, taking a few steps back to allow the staff to come in. "Sorry to disturb, but visit hours are over. The patient needs rest, you'll be able to come by tomorrow though. I'll be back in a couple of minutes to properly check on our mister over there."[/i] The nurse applied a friendly smile on her face and motioned towards Jacob Pierce, and in case Max would be still on the mattress, she would look at the two men for a moment, probably not approving of invading a petient's space, before exiting the room. Ruby thanked as a formality, and sighed, looking at the two. "We'll be back tomorrow, Jacob. Dont try to stab the nurses please." Then, the woman smirked a bit, chuckling and waiting for Max Madden to get up from the man's hospital bed, before she would silently decide on either delivering another hug, or just staying emotion-free at this point. The latter seemed more comfortable for both of them, and she only made eye contact, giving Jacob a reasurring smile that the two wont abandon him in the hospital. "Sleep well, birdy."

It's a date! There's murder involved Of course saving each other over and over again was a better option than having to mourn his friends as many times, that was an obvious truth, and Jacob knew personally well how terrible it was to lose close friends, four of them in a single day and one was even directly because of his choices. He didn’t know how he would react if he lost Max and Ruby, their friendship had only grown stronger and stronger the longer they spent time together, just the thought of how Max could be shot by some bandit, or Ruby falling dead made his jaw clench, and a frown appear on his face. “Yes, I guess almost dying is still better than actually dying.” The most surprising thing was that Jacob believed the sentiment was mutual, and Max and Ruby would feel just as bad if he was the one who died. That was one of the reason why it was so important to Max know the truth. Max didn’t deserve to be deceived, Jacob wanted to spill everything out, let the words out and explain himself before it was too late, for what, he wasn’t even sure. But he didn’t get the chance, his voice trailed off as Ruby entered the room, the words dying midway through, and he let out a sigh of defeat, when would he be able to gather courage again to talk to Max, he didn’t know, but Jacob know he wouldn’t stop thinking about it until he explained everything. By the cop’s stare, he could only assume that Max knew he had something important to say too, and probably it would be brought up again another time. For now, Jacob could pretend everything was fine, and focus on little unimportant things, like the fact that Max changed the name of his dog to Lucius, it sounded very fancy for a puppy to be honest. “Lucius? That doesn’t sound very puppy-ish, I think Max was more fitting.” And Ruby seemed to agree, her words reminded him that he still hadn’t given Max the dog’s papers… Jacob didn’t remember seeing the dog today anyway, and now that he thought about it, he didn’t remember riding in a car on his way to the hospital either. How close to actually dying was he? The doctor said overdose, and he certainly panicked when the drug was injected because he was scared of dying, but was the risk really that high? What was done was done, and now Jacob could deal with the consequences, be stuck in a hospital bed and wait. At least he had his friends to keep him company now. And how did that change? Last time he got sent to the hospital by Max, Ruby somehow found out and Jacob could only be filled with dread the moment she stepped inside the room, and for good reason, she bought drugs and he had no doubts she would take full advantage of his weakness, and now he was the one who asked to see her, and so far, she didn’t seem very inclined to start hurting him. But maybe it wasn’t so difficult to pinpoint when the big shift happened though, Jacob saved their lives, stood up to his boss so they would not die, risked his own life for then, even if he regretted five seconds later, and that situation just brought them closer, made them each other’s liability… Max didn’t seem bothered to have to sit on the floor, but for Jacob it didn’t felt right for him to stay on the uncomfortable, cold stone while he had a perfectly good bed to share. Thankfully, the cop didn’t protest before accepting his invitation, and sat down on the other side of the bed. Max’s hand found Jacob’s a second time, which made him look up, curious to know what all this hand holding meant, until Max pressed his pulse, felling his steady heartbeat under the skin. “You do know the beeping in the monitor is my heart, don’t you?” He said quietly, a little amused. But soon they were interrupted, a nurse coming in to say visiting hours was over. That was stupid, it felt like they were barely an hour here. “What? Already?” He shot and frown at the nurse, who just smiled, apparently amused by what Ruby said. If she only knew ‘It’s already quite late’ she said, and Ruby didn’t even protest being shooed, she did made a pause, as if deciding something, and Jacob expected another hug, but it never came. “I make no promises, I’m already bored.” He smirked at the blonde, and as soon as his friends were gone, a look of annoyance came over him, no what was he supposed to do? The nurse scribbled something on his medical papers, checked his IV quickly, and then left. While Jacob was left alone to dwell how much he screwed up on this mission.

A murderous Poisonous

[attr="class","petit"] [break] [attr="class","petitcontent"] [attr="class","petitcontentstyle"] [attr="class","petitfirstletter"]S uch a big deal about the German shepherd's new name. They either loved their joke so much they weren't ready to just drop it, or they truly loved to mess around with him. It was probably both now that he thought about it. He recalled they've said several times that he was fun to toy with and mess with. But then it might be there faces telling all of their thoughts to him, or making him believe it was so. He shrugged at their complaints. He wasn't going to change that dog's name any time soon, and if he had to be honest, these two were the inspiration for the name. Lucius, coming from Lucifer, coming from the fact that for a while these two made him live a living hell. To the cop, having a dog associated with the devil was like a slight revenge to his past where he believed he saw demons at each curve of the streets. It was like he was able to dominate and tame one of those beasts and make it his companion for life, one he would love and one that could protect him and work alongside with him instead of seeking for his bones and corpse. Jacob saying Max was more fitting of a name for a puppy made Max lift a brow in surprise. Did he think the same thing of him? See him more as an immature pup than a grown up dog or man? He commented not on the subject, but he chuckled at their words nonetheless. [break][break] Max looked amusedly at the heart monitor when Jacob pointed it out. It was true that he could look at it to make sure Jacob was okay, but how much could you trust a machine versus a real human being and the true lively pulse under your own fingers to measure? To Max it was more reliable to do it the way he was doing it, and it permitted him to be closer to Jacob. You don't touch dead people, but you do with the ones alive. Unless you fancy doing so, but it wasn't Max's case. And it wasn't the same type of touch you give to a warm body and a cold one. He removed his hand from Jacob's wrist with a chuckle, moving it to his shoulder to press it in a comforting way. He was going to find something to reply to Jacob about not using the heart monitor for the pulse, but a nurse came inside the room just as Ruby was about to open the door for some reason. Visit hours were done, and it was a shame, something that blew a slight bubble of anger in his chest. A bubble that popped a moment later when he looked at his watch. It was late, of course visit hours were over. He got off the bed after seeing that the nurse will probably be shooing him off. He could have replied to Ruby's comment about sitting on the floor with you are not the boss of me, but saying that now that the nurse was there would be useless. [break][break] He put his hands in his pockets, looking at Ruby as she said goodbye to Jacob, and for some reason he thought she was going to give him a hug. He was wrong however. He felt like something was missing because of Ruby's choice. He rubbed Jacob's arm gently with a smile, mixed with what appeared to be disappointment. Disappointment for not being able to watch over Jacob himself, for not being able to give him some source of entertainment while he was away, for leaving him in a place he knew the man hated. "We'll be back Jacob, don't worry." he said before heading to the door behind Ruby before turning around and pointing at the drawer with the coke hidden inside. He whispered, articulating with his lips "If you get too bored". That was the only thing he could do for the man, leave him some coke and the rabbit plush toy. He gave the man a last large smile before closing the door behind him. It almost felt rude somehow to close the door this way, like closing it on an unfinished conversation. But he had to go, and drive Ruby back to her house. Hopefully she'll be fine by herself there after all that happened. If she requested it, the cop would not go against letting her spend the night at his place. She was in a similar state than the night after the aquarium. He remembered sometimes when his sister got a nightmare and would come seek his presence rather than that of their parents. In this case, Ruby seemed like she just got over a nightmare, and only needed some comfort. She might have had enough of it however, and that was why Max wanted to leave the choice of what she wanted to do to her. [break][break] When he headed out he was stroke by the cold. He hadn't noticed before how cold it was outside. Ruby still had his coat, but she could keep it for now, she needed it more than he. He reached the car, inviting Ruby to sit in the passenger seat while he put Lucius in the back. The pup didn't stay in the back for very long however, too exited to see Ruby back and maybe wondering where the bunnies went. "Do you want me to drive you back home? It's your call." he questioned the woman, adjusting his seat, the rear mirror and the side ones before removing the police lights from the top of the car and starting the engine, putting on the heater so his breath would stop making some white mist every time he breathed. He was tired, but he believed he could drive just fine as long as they didn't get caught in any traffic. And traffic at this hour, well it was very unlikely.
