It's a date! There's murder involved Curse until the end of time his inability to keep his emotions from showing on his face. It was ridiculous how much of an open book he was. The worst part was that it had never been an issue until he met Max and Ruby. He had two main ways of dealing with people, they either met him as the mercenary, or as just an IT tech, and on both occasion there was no need to hide any kind of emotions. But now Ruby was messing with his mind and Jacob refused to show how much it affected him. But she liked to play games, knew exactly how to tone her voice to make it effective, her smooth words, coming from behind made him gave a brief pause, tensing up and swallowing dry before he continued on his way. It was just a moment, if you weren’t looking you’d miss it, but he would bet Ruby was watching attentively. He had no idea what Ruby hoped to accomplish with those actions, if she was planning something or if these was just her mind games turning against him since Max wasn’t around right now. It didn’t matter, he wouldn’t let her play him like that, he had a job to do, and that’s what he was going to focus. Focus on the target, or in this case, the target’s room. Even in the dark he could see it was a mess to rival even Max’s apartment. He suspected the only reason there weren’t leftover food rotting was because the man had no time to do that yet. “The file said he should be alone, though it certainly looks like he makes a mess for two, or five.” He didn’t touch any of the stuff thrown around, to avoid anything looking suspicious when people came to investigate, but the urge was strong. Ruby closed the door when she entered, leaving the room in complete darkness, and they couldn’t turn on the lights since they didn’t have the key with that card. It was hard to see, and with all the things on the floor this was turning out to be a death trap, maybe Jacob and Ruby wouldn’t even need to do anything and the target would trip on his own stuff, bang his head and die by himself. He heard Ruby shuffle around the room, her form only a vague silhouette. “No? did you? I can’t see anything here.” He tried to walk forward, his foot catching in some cloth on the floor that he had to shake off. Suddenly there was a hand grabbing his shoulder, the sudden contact made him stumble back a bit, one of his hands went to try to hold the window frame to keep his balance, the other went around Ruby waist so she would fall and bring him down with her. He wouldn’t have complained, he understood it was hard to see and the room was full of things to trip, but her words struck him, and he let an indignant huff. “How is this my fault? Look where you’re going!” his voice was snappish, even if he knew she couldn’t do as he said.

Ruby Red Blackwood | He was depriving her of being able to see the reaction on his face, in his eyes and in every single muscle; but not fully. Attentive fit Ruby just fine, in general. Her focus tonight was shared equally between the given mission (helping Jacob cause Mr White's accidentaly death) and a newly assigned task, more like a personal soon-to-be achievement though: Jacob.
She didnt mean it as some name on a hit-list, or on a fling-list, she settled the purpose of this task to be only one, exploring Jacob's reactions and the extent of his facial expressions. Could he blush until he was turned in a tomato? Could he get red as the blood? Was there something that could make him stutter when speaking? Or even better, leave him... speechless? He sure was a mess when it came to hiding emotions, hence his desperate need of a mask. But the masked mercenary was no longer a questioning sign in the blonde's name list. He was not mentioned, actually. The only name you could find was Jacob, and it was mentioned under the title 'Friends' .
So the initial purpose of her self assigned task was not to attempt some witty seduction trick or to do god knows what else. It was simply making Jacob's face burn. She managed to break people easily, or manipulate them into doing all sorts of stuff - but with Jacob this wouldnt work, and she wouldnt forgive herself for doing such mischievious thing to a friend. Frankly, she did not want Jacob in the true meaning of the words. She didnt want anyone. There was no room for love in this game. Love kills you, slowly, and leaves your body rotting in the absence of a soul. She didnt need that.
"This mess sure looks familiar..." Ruby commented, knowing that Pierce would easily realise how she was hinting at Max's place. Sure, it was not always a dump, but the woman was 250% sure that whenever the two criminals didnt visit the cop, his place was a lost cause.
"I've found a new dump, if that counts.." Sure it didnt, and from the woman's voice, she was quite disappointed by what surroundings they had to investigate. For a moment, Ruby thought they were quite lucky to be lacking light actually, they wouldnt need to see the mess that way. So darkness had its perks.
"I would, if I could see anything!" Jacob took her joke as a rude comment probably, but with his sense of humor and both of their sarcasm levels, you could never be sure. It was her fault for blaming him, really, but rather than apologising, Ruby lowered her voice in a whisper and tried to regain her balance (by moving her foot) yet failing. Stuck, her heel got stuck.
Somewhere in-between the carpet and the dresser's lowest edge, her heel got blocked. If she tried to give it a good shake, it would either break or make her lose balance again, so this was a problem that had to be dealt with slow, and steady. Ruby brushed her palm away from the wooden surface, onto the man's elbow, trailing it up on his shoulder, now having both hands placed identically. "Stand still, my heel is stuck." Her calm whisper could be heard again, and she was sure Jacob could hear her well, given their closeness. With his hand on her waist and the momentum that betrayed the woman, Red's body was pretty much leaning against Birdy's own. What was truly frustrating though, was the heel's stubborness.
'Heat of the moment' : Acting or speaking on impulse, without actually thinking, meaning or realising your own doings. The term will haunt her forever.
Ruby's chin was lowered, as she was trying to somehow see her shoe, but the darkness was a pain in the ass. So instead of just looking down at nothing, she though that eye contact would be a lot less awkward for Jacob. She raised her head, searching with her glare for the man's own, while a brow furrowed in a thoughtful way. "Wait, I think I got it." Still in a soft whisper, her words came slowly through her plump lips, and she tilted her foot gently, yet no change. Ugh, this was pointless. The moon was up on the night's sky, illuminating the small area next to the windows and the two themselves with its pale, blue-ish light. The light was constantly on Jacob's back, sneaking through his curls and each time he shifted. Blackwood's eyes darted from Jacob's each, and in that moment, there was something creeping through her rib cage. It felt like a light shiver at first, but it had no physical outcome, and it faded just as it came. Her look fell on the criminal's lips by mistake, and the assassin closed the only gap left between them, with a soft kiss, at first just testing the grounds. Why are you doing this? This isnt what you had in mind, not what you wanted. Her thoughts appeared truthful, but there was no hidden reasoning behind this sudden action.

It's a date! There's murder involved A chuckle when Ruby commented how the room was a familiar, so it wasn’t only him who saw certain similarities. “I was thinking the same, how hard is it to keep your stuff organized?” He tsked in disgust at the mess, doing his best to ignore it. But with the room bathed in darkness it just made things worse. True, they couldn’t see the things thrown around anymore, but every step they took they stumbled upon something. “I don’t need help to find dumps, they are everywhere” He grumbled, shaking his hand after he touched something he wasn’t sure what it was, but he guessed it wasn’t clean. “We should’ve brought a flashlight.” He said standing still as Ruby tried to get whatever was stuck on her shoe off. He hands delicately gripped his shoulders to keep herself balanced, the moment of embarrassment had passed, so Jacob didn’t feel particularly uncomfortable with her closeness, his hand remained on her waist, partly to give her support, partly because once again it didn’t cross his mind to move it, and still Ruby struggled to free herself. “Did you step on something sticky?” he wondered, what was so hard to untangle? It couldn’t be only the darkness. She turned her eyes to him, and Jacob was taken back with the sudden movement, a slight hitch on his breath as she gazed in his eyes. The moonlight shone slightly through the window, the light illuminating her features slightly and even with the slight frown in concentration she was expressing, it stuck to him how pretty Ruby was, it wasn’t the first time he had thought about that tonight, which was odd, he usually didn’t pay too much attention to people’s features. The shoe was a lost case, they probably needed proper light for her to sort it out. Ruby ought to just distance herself from him now, there was no need for them to be this close, but she didn’t, she kept gazing into his eyes, as if searching for something, and Jacob raised his hand to… do what? he wasn’t sure, touch her face? Brush her hair? It didn’t matter because he stopped before he could conclude the action in surprise, his eyes widening as he felt her lips softly touch his. He froze, not sure how they got into this situation on the first place. It was Ruby, his friend! Wha- why…? He felt his face warming up once again, a full flush covering his face, his heart beat increasing in speed. Was this some sort of trick? One of her mind games? What about Max? But even with all these thoughts swimming through his head, Jacob couldn’t bring himself to push her away. The kiss was very soft, almost hesitant, like not even Ruby knew exactly what she was doing, but he couldn’t deny that it felt nice, unlike other kisses he had shared on the past, the ones he thought nothing beyond how wet they were, with Ruby all it took was just one little touch of her lips, and it was enough to make his heart race. It took a few moments, but Jacob managed to snap himself out of his surprise, the hand he had lifted was placed gently on her face, to bring her closer or to make sure she was really there, kissing him, and Jacob finally responded to kiss, closing his eyes and enjoying the moment, any thought of protest his mind could’ve throw at him was ignored.

Ruby Red Blackwood | ♥ Flashlight, yeah, but who would have thought they would be needing one? A phone could illuminate the place a bit, but surely not enough for them to even see each other, so maybe it wasn't even worth the effort.
♥ Eww, something sticky would have probably made her gag. It was a hotel room for god's sake, not some boy teenagers' hangout! This place should have been way, way cleaner. That maid spotted across the hall sure didn't come into this room. "No, it's just...stuck." Ruby tried to explain the situation but failed, pausing in her speech to let him know that she too was a bit annoyed by this whole 'event'. The shoes were really great.. From what she could tell, there was nothing ..mushy interfering with her heel, so that was good news.
♥ Dammit! Dammit, dammit..daargh.. You couldn't have possibly chosen a better moment to act on your own, blondie? See this is why you usually get orders from others. Arguing with yourself over a simple moment of weakness- because this was it, weakness - was pointless. It was an act that told a lot about a person (how their judgement could get clouded really fast, or how their mind was..shattered) in most of cases. Half of herself was on the verge of letting out an angry snarl at herself, pushing Jacob away violently and putting her hands in her hair, trying to figure out the consequences of this. But the other half was questioning herself "what consequences, really?" and it was hell of a question.
♥ What about Max? Yes, the two shared the same thought for a moment, they were right to do so. Jacob, not really; but Red should feel ashamed. She felt like a traitor for no reason, the two were not together, nor did they share any sort of feelings (...right?), so there was no actual deal to make her feel guilty. Oh, she sure was, but in this very moment, no feeling could take a hold of her beside that 'heat of the moment' that was still making her chest feel like a cocoon of butterflies ready to break through the sheating. For all she knew, Max was some sort of fuck buddy, and he sure considered her to be the same. As a bonus, he was a man of law, she was an unworthy criminal, there was no actual reason for them both to actually develop feelings for each other. A relationship like that could go downhill pretty fast..with casualities. Not what they needed, most likely not what Max wanted either.
♥ Their lips touched softly, the blonde's eyes closing after a moment of contact, to block away any other thoughts and at the same time to be able to fully enjoy the moment. She wasnt sure what Jacob intended to do at first, he seemed really confused too before she had initiated this. His hand moved on her skin, the sudden heat he provided only empowered the sentiment rushing through the woman's soul. The man who always wanted to appear emotionless, with his glare hard as the stone, melting everything in his way, he responded to this walking mess' kiss. Did Ruby manage to break one of his walls while hers had been shattered a while ago? Was this a side effect of some action, event, or of befriending the wrong people? Come on now, what even was right these days?
♥ One thing was certain, she did not wish for this moment to burn out. It was somehow a suicidal thought, it will slowly kill her if she found herself falling for someone (or for two people) and it will be all her fault. But alas, at least she would die as she had chosen to, not of someone else's doing. The softness of the kiss lasted for a few seconds, as if to get them both used to it. But with the blonde's hand now trailing towards the man's neck and up to the back of his head, with her fingers slowly dipping through his curls - she felt like nothing else existed around them. Her thumb rested behind his ear while her index had a black strip of hair curled around it without tugging or causing any pain to the man (hopefully). The kiss turned more lively, on her behalf at least, when her lips parted and she had gotten completely lost in her actions, for there was no way of stopping or going back. She once bit his lower lip gently between her teeth before resuming what turned into a make out session soon. So wrong, yet so right. Blackwood didnt plan on turning this god-like kiss into a rough one, not even by accident if he didnt want that; it was too enjoyable, Jacob was a great kisser, and she didnt want to ruin it.
So this was why people at fancy and boring events rented private rooms, to take a break and enjoy themselves? Sounded like a luxury the two probably couldnt afford tonight. Not with the mission, not with the time flowing, not with their even more clouded judgements.

It's a date! There's murder involved Should he feel guilty? Ashamed of sharing such an intimate moment with a woman he knew had a… thing with his other friend. It should feel like betraying Max, taking away his happiness, destroying the delicate relationship the three shared (but that’s what he did, wasn’t it? Destroy and undo anything good that happened to him.). Jacob had always felt like the third wheel, he was the friend and they were the couple, he complained and teased, but in the end he didn’t really mind, never felt any kind of jealousy or envy for what they had, and why would he? He didn’t feel like other people, there was something broken in him that stopped any kind of attraction or carnal urges. And yet, here he was, everything he had believed about himself just proven wrong bit a single act from Ruby. Not as broken as he had initially thought. The walls he had built so carefully over the years, his fears and insecurities hidden away from prying eyes, the loneliness and the belief that no one would care to even try to get close, the walls ware to protect himself, they were supposed to be impenetrable, but now they laid shattered with a kiss. His mind told him he should push her away, run away from this situation, argue with her, ask what the hell she was doing, but it was all drowned by the unfamiliar sensation of her lips on his, his hearth thudding so loud on his chest he wouldn’t be surprised if she could hear it, a warmness spreading from his heart to his whole body that had very little to do with embarrassment and gave a sensation like he was going to burst. All was very new and confusing, but so very good, as he finally understood why people did this kissing thing all the time. Her hands run from the back his neck through his hair, the soft touch eliciting a shiver from him as he sucked a breath through his nose, the light contact becoming more enthusiastic, as he took the parting of her lips as an invitation to deepen the kiss. The hand Jacob still had on her waist circled her, bringing her warm body closer in a soft embrace, his thumb caressing her back distractedly, the hand on Ruby’s face going to her hair as if Jacob just wanted to bring her closer, but that wasn’t possible. His head felt it was spinning but he had never felt this focused on something, they way she bit his lip lightly, his eyes opened half way with the wish to just look at her, see how Ruby looked like while this close, before closing them again and resuming what Jacob wouldn’t have hesitated to described as a make out session, while teasing and groaning in disdain had it been anyone else in his place. But now he fully understood the appeal, what made Max unable to resist her. But at the same time this could be compared to those kisses Jacob had witnessed between Max and Ruby, it was also completely different. There was none of that anger that seen to cloud their interactions, it wasn’t a rough battle for dominance, it was more like a gentle dance, no one trying to win… and perhaps it was the rather inexperienced part of Jacob, but he thought this worked just fine for him. He copied what Ruby had done to him earlier, breaking the kiss momentarily to lightly nip on her lower lip before going back to kissing. He forgot completely what he was supposed to be doing, there was just Ruby in front him, nothing else mattered.

Ruby Red Blackwood | ♥ Closer, and closer, and closer, even though there was no more space between them anyway, it was their instinct to pull each other as close as they could, to themselves. They said temptation leads people into doing things they would have never done if the opportunity was never there. The hand pulling her closer, pressing gently on her bare skin and sending an impulse to her brain, the same hand that held knives or guns, yet she didnt feel like she was in danger's hands. And she was no better, in reality. Palms stained of blood, leaving red marks in one's soul, those palms were now around the man's neck, drifting away from his hair and cupping the back of his head, fearing this will all turn out to be a dream. Or a nightmare.
Ruby wished for the time to freeze, only allow them two to keep moving, to keep sharing this intimate moment. She had seen Jacob shirtless, she had seen him ramble like an idiot over how much Max and herself were hate flirting, but she realised that this kiss was not started by any hate, nor any teasing. It was a slip, her action, but he was no better, since he was currently doing the opposite of pushing her away. Ruby kept fiddling with Pierce's curls now, letting a hand slide off from his neck slowly, onto the collar of his shirt, trailing the tip of her fingers across the edge of the cloth, absent minded teasing him with a light touch, down his collarbone. Some button was stopping her hand from going lower, and with a small flick of it, the button came through the shirt's gap, exposing more of the man's burning skin. Any thoughts flying back to the mission or Max were completely blocked away, the guiltiness in her mind took a break too. The hand resting on Jacob's skin got moving again, brushing itself against the tie around his neck and gently pulling on the knot to undo it, helping herself with the other hand too.
Her body glued to his, the single problem was that heel stuck that didnt allow her to properly move, but how that leg was the closest to Jacob anyway, she didnt see much of a problem. Ruby loosened the man's tie and placed her hand back in his tar black hair and on his neck. Part of her restrained herself from doing anything more, but there was always the Ruby that said "ah, fuck it, just live your life" no matter the consequences. That Ruby usually screamed trouble too, but that was just a detail. No need to ruin this She kept telling herself.
All the moments when Ruby thought Pierce as a simple forever alone, calling him a virgin (referring to both kissing & sex) , her theory got slammed against the ground with this ongoing making out. Deep down, she felt good for being wrong all this time. It was curious why Jacob never boasted about being a kisser that good. The blonde's eyes opened slowly, internally gawking at how handsome Pierce really was. It all took some moon light to enlighten her on that part. The light's reflection in her orbs disappeared when she had closed them. The free foot got placed between the mercenary's feet, in case the woman needed to sustain herself or regain some balance, even though if Jacob didnt fall, there were no chances for her to do that either. The silence around was broken by a silent moan, much like a heavy wheeze, puffed out of the woman's nose. Red couldnt believe that Jacob, Birdy himself, made her moan. But what was so unbelievable anyway?
Their lips crashing against each other, how he nibbled on her plump lip, his fingers caressing her inked skin and how his hand on her face held her close to him- for Blackwood, this all was awfully turning on. If the surroundings were different, meaning that they wouldnt have been in a target's bedroom, for sure Ruby would have been less quiet and nice. On that thought though, she did not have anything to prove to Jacob, she didnt have a reason to want to make him kneel or see him submit, it was something very different from what she felt when around Max, for sure. The cop always stirred up a battle for supremacy, even in bed, while on the other side, she would gladly let herself be dominated by Jacob, if this was the case. Such fucked up thoughts, stop it.
Not the case indeed. They had no idea what time it was probably, but Mr White sure kept track of it. How long until the snob would visit his pigsty again? It remained to be seen. Ruby broke the kiss, he two's tongues not wrestling anymore, and opened her eyes to be stunned again by Jacob's deep set, dark chocolate eyes once he would glare back at her too. She looked back at his lips, now stained of her lipstick (but they would most likely notice it once they had proper light) questioning herself what just happened. But her heart was still racing and she got closer again, her lips only hovering over Pierce's for a second, and when they finally touched again, in an attempt to continue everything...
The sound of the door being unlocked and the knob being twisted struck them both. Red felt like a reckless teenager just being caught by her strict parents while kissing the school's bad boy who happened to be older than her too. Her eyes widened in surprise, she turned her head to be able to scout anyone's approaching shadow while a hand got placed on top of Jacob's mouth. No sounds, no noises, it could be just the maid after all. A hand went soundlessly to her gun, waiting for the target to come into view, or to hear him grab something and leave. With a bit of luck maybe he'll stay in the first half of the room where the couch and coat hanger was, no need for him to get through the empty doorway into the bedroom. On a second thought, why the hell did he have a couch and the two didnt? But really, the thought wasnt even bugging Ruby anymore. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |

It's a date! There's murder involved The heat of her skin, felt even through clothes, touching and caressing as they pulled each other impossibly close, Jacob felt he could drown on her presence, on every sensation she elicited from him, the urge to get closer and closer, he couldn’t get enough of Ruby, and desperately hoped this was not some trick or a dream. He didn’t know how he would react if all this turned out to be a cruel joke, to show him he wasn’t as emotionless as he led everyone to believe, to prove to him and to herself that the she could manipulate him, drag him down at her mercy if she so wished. It was a fear that plagued him mind more than once when she decided to close the gap between them, cross a line Jacob hadn’t even imagined it could be crossed. But that was just a stupid fear, wasn’t it? They were friends, he trusted her, even if she liked to tease and play, she wouldn’t be that cruel to him, right? It certainly felt genuine enough, so very real. Her hands playing with his hair, dragging down and down, leaving a trail of fire wherever she touched. He felt her quick hands easily undo the button of his shirt, how far would they go? He had no intention of stopping this, if she kept going about taking off his clothes he wouldn’t be the one to stop her, he was too far gone to even think about self-control, no complaints about his tie either, he wanted this, take off all the layers that insisted in stopping their skin from touching. The man’s hand on her back, trailing down along the tattoo he knew was there, exposed by the open back of the dress, so inviting, teasing anyone who stopped to look, he let the touch linger, sometimes teasing the cloth, his fingers playing under the blue dress, not daring to go too far. Jacob wasn’t a virgin, inexperienced maybe, but he had tried sleeping with people, found it boring, lacking the hype everyone seem to give it. He half convinced himself that everyone was lying about it being so special, but now it was him who couldn’t get enough of the blonde glued to him, couldn’t take his hands or lips away. The hand on the back of her head slid down, his nails lightly scraping the skin towards the back of her neck, it wasn’t his intention to hurt, but to make her shiver, the same way she made him. The room was very silent, with both of them being the only people around, they weren’t being particularly noisy, only the rustle of clothing and the noise shifting as Ruby tried to stand in a better position. It was no surprise he caught the small moan Ruby let escape, satisfaction that she was enjoying herself as much as he was filled his chest, It made his blood rush, his heart was already beating fast and the room felt awfully hot. He had never being this turned on from just kissing, it wasn’t just his body responding to stimuli while his mind wandered bored to all the things he’d rather be doing. All his attention belonged to Ruby, her warmness and the sensation of her lips on his, her body under his hands, there was no distractions, not even the notion that Mr. White could arrive at any moment, the target and the job was the least of his worries. Ruby broke the kiss, and Jacob remained a few seconds with his eyes still closed, before he opened them to gaze back at her still feeling dazed, his breathing was fast and his pulse out of control. He was sure his face was still very red, but the darkness of the room would serve to conceal that for now. He didn’t dare say anything, and what could he say? He swallowed, licking his lips while still looking at her deep blue eyes, usually so full of mischief, but now dark and, dare he say, lustful. The side of Ruby he didn’t think himself ever appreciating. She was approaching again, perhaps he didn’t have to say anything, they could just go ahead, keeping doing this… whatever it was. Their lips touched, and Jacob was closing his eyes once again when the lock rattled. He opened his eyes wide, the moment being broken suddenly, his breath hitching as it crashed in his mind what they were supposed to be doing. The door swung open and Jacob could only gape as Ruby pressed a hand over his mouth. They were by the window, the moonlight would be enough to give them away if the person even shot a brief glance to where they were. He heard a person enter, the light of the hall obscuring their identity, but with a bit of luck it could be a maid, or some hotel staff. There was a noise of confusion from the person, a very male and distantly familiar voice asking ‘who is there?’ As the man put his key card on the hook that would turn on the light, and Jacob squinted at sudden brightness, Jack White looking at their intimate embrace in confusion, it gave enough time for Jacob to come to a decision. Pushing Ruby aside, he took his knife out, quickly advancing towards the target. They screwed up really badly letting themselves get distracted, they didn’t have the time to set up anything for the target, the only way now was to improvise. He was sure his client wouldn’t be very pleased, but it was too late now. Jacob attacked with the knife, sure that Ruby would have his back. He didn’t want to kill the man right away, if they still had a way to salvage this mission, they would need to the target alive to set anything up, so Jacob held back, and perhaps that was his mistake, because it appeared Mr. White was ready for an assassin, meeting his movements with more speed that Jacob would think a man like him would have.

Ruby Red Blackwood | It was impossible for her to think about what Jacob's mind could be wondering about, what his instincts told him to do or not, this was one of the moments when Ruby wished to be able to read other's minds. Red prefered to refer to this all as some erotic love of the moment, because going as far as calling it an infatuation or love in the word's real meaning was practically impossible. You could not fall in love from just one..perfect kiss, Ruby did not believe in such thing. Her thoughts were too stretched out for her own good, trying to explain what was happening to her, to them both, was futile. Had Jacob ever been associated with a drug before? If not, this would definitely be the first time someone would call him that. His presence, effect on her was mesmerizing. Feeling like you could live only under the man's touch, breathing the passion or dying if the kiss got broken, this was a whole new drug. It was so enthralling, the feeling practically begged for Ruby to continue this all, to enjoy Jacob's whole being until it would be too late for their sanity to be saved.
Checkpoint reached.
How he teased her through the seven hells and back, his touch lurking at the edge of the blue cloth and only allowing her to imagine a hell lot of "what ifs". What if he had stepped away, or pushed her back, as soon as she had stumbled against him? What if they never actually checked this room out? What if.. What's done is done, Ruby. The woman broke her own chain of thoughts, choosing to stop questioning everything.
The short moment of eye contact proved them both how they were speechless of their own behaviours, and their sudden drive, urge to break free from their chains, impressions and to attempt to ease their minds in this greedy act. Because it was all fueled by greed, to achieve happiness and pleasure by using each other. They became tools of their own destruction.
You learn how many swear words you know in moments like this, when you get intrerrupted in a very rude manner by a bastard that should have been dead already, Ruby concluded. For his manner of breaking in like that he deserved to be beheaded, get his head sewed back to his neck and then thrown at the sharks. After being headless again, obviously. There was no greater crime in Blackwood's opinion than walking in on two people enjoying themselves, and ruining their fun. That, and betrayl of course..nothing compared to that.
Jacob was quick to regain his senses at the sound of the target's voice, and surprisingly enough he did not hesitate much before advancing to get this job done. He pushed the woman to the side, and the blonde leaned against the dresser for a second to get her heel free again, her gun pointing at White now. "You douchebag." Red muttered, annoyed by the fact that the snob had to break their moment. The dipshit with the mission said he wanted an accident, well how about the headline "guy gets shot between his eyes for walking in on two assassins making out"?! No, that wont work. Ruby's eyes darted from Jack White to Birdy while she switched her gun with one of the knives she had in her bag, throwing a blade at the target's head. And missing. She was on the verge of raging. The blade had contact with the guy's shirt collar, pinning him against the wall violently, probably giving Jacob some bonus moments too to regain his breath after struggling with the target. Red swiftly moved her hand to the dagger at her ankle, hurrying closer to the two and aiming to throw the knife at one's chest. For god's sake, this was getting annoying. Either White was no stereotypical snob, or this was a trap or he was just a natural at escaping assassins. It took his less than a moment to rip himself away from the wall, with a piece of the white cloth still hanging there stuck, and he lunged for a small coffee table near, diving for something none of the criminals had noticed before. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |

It's a date! There's murder involved If they weren’t so rudely interrupted, how far would they go? On a stranger’s bedroom, passion clouding their judgement, blinding them to the dangers this distraction could bring. What would happen to their relationship if they went too far? But then again, the same could be asked now, how would they bear to be on each other’s presence after this? While unable to reach out, touch and explore once again. Like dam that was open, all these… feelings (because that’s what it was, ugh, feelings) wouldn’t be easily forgotten, and even harden to ignore. But that’s what it must happen, this was just a one time thing, a slip of judgement, it shouldn’t happen ever again, Ruby had Max, they were the cute ones, and Jacob was the same old Jacob, ready to destroy anything good he touched, and he knew sooner or later, this relationship, with both Ruby and Max, would end like so many other things in his life. Jacob making a mess with his feelings and making out with Ruby was just a speed up to the inevitable end. Thankfulness and annoyance at Jack White for interrupting filled Jacob in strange mixture. On one hand he didn’t want to stop, that moment with Ruby feeling to good, making him crave more and more. On the other hand, it was a horrible mistake, doomed to end in stab wounds and gunshots, as usual. At least they stopped before anything too serious could come out of it. (Couldn’t he have waited a bit longer though? Just a little.) Focused now on the task at hand, and willfully ignoring any further thought on the subject of Ruby and her wonderful kisses, Jacob advanced and attacked, but Mr. White was prepared, and easily deflected, pushing Jacob away from him with by shouldering the mercenary aside. There was a metallic sound of one of Ruby’s throwing knives hitting the wall, as the target ducked quickly to avoid being injured. He wasn’t fast enough to completely avoid the knife who stuck to the wall deeply, pining the man by the shirt. Jacob took the opportunity to try to elbow him on the head, to hopefully knock the man out, but a swiftly aimed flail of the arm hit him on the face. What was with this man? Since when rich snobs knew how to fight and can hold their own against two experienced assassins? Jacob and Ruby had underestimated the target, and now they were struggling to take him out. Caution to the wind, Jacob stopped holding back. If the client wanted an accident, they should have told Jacob that the target was more than capable of fighting back. You’d think that was an important detail that should have been added to the file Jacob had received. He slashed with the knife, managing to make a deep cut on the enemy’s face, blood started falling, staining the white shirt and the carpeted floor. Jack White ignored any pain, finally freeing himself and diving for the nightstand. Jacob wouldn’t let him get whatever it was, a device to call for help or a weapon, it didn’t matter. Two things happened at the same time, Jacob lunged for the target, burring his knife deeply into the man’s right arm, and the Mr. White grabbed what he was after, which turned out to be a needle. It took Jacob by surprise when he felt a pinprick on his neck, some kind of liquid being injected on his bloodstream. He was tossed aside and fell to the ground, before his hand went to his neck and he took off the empty needle. Thankfully it hadn’t broken inside his skin, but there was still the problem he had just being poisoned by an unknown substance. And whatever it was quick to take effect too. He tried to get up, his plan was to regroup with Ruby and try the two of them take the man out. But as soon as he lifted himself he felt dizzy, the room spinning uncontrollably, his knees felt weak, and a sudden fear that he was going to die from the poison filled his mind. “Ruby! Help.” He called to her, not sure if he screamed or whispered. He didn’t know what she could do to help, but he was scared, and no doubt it showed on his face.

Ruby Red Blackwood | Too much was not good. That could be seen on the spot, with two professionals having one single task, and failing at completting it. Whoever wanted this contract done must have thought that two assassins could complete the assignment better, and faster than one alone. Well, not when you put two emotionally wrecked criminals on the same job apparently. If Ruby hadnt been now full set on making White's life a tad bit shorter, she would have probably began blamimng herself for accepting this invitation. But on that..it was Jacob who called her anyway. Though throwing blame sounded like betrayl, and she restrained herself from stepping over her morals.
God this guy was annoying as hell. Hitting back, dodging and managing to do a great job at keeping Jacob at bay, this Jack was no usual target. He and Pierce were in a really nasty brawl, and as Ruby rushed to retrieve the knife from the wall with a strongly violent pull, she threw it again at the target, hoping to put the fact that he was occupied eith Jacib - to good use. If he never saw the knife coming, he would be easier to kill. The blade hit the man's shoulder, a noise coming from his mouth. Red's aim was affected by her thumping heart, but the raging pulse and by Jacob's effect on her still present.
Both men lunged towards the little table, one after the other, and as the mercenary's knife dug itself into White's arm, it was all a mess. Jacob got stabbed in the neck with some syringe. Ruby pulled out the silenced gun at the target who was getting up and rushing to escape. Pierce lost his balance, and the blonde was watching alarmed as he did so, moving her attention from the guy running away to her partner. He was down, and pulled the syringe away from his neck, making Ruby's eyes widen in worry. What was in that needle?? The woman crashed on her knees at Jacob's side, a hand over the side of his neck and one still holding the gun aimed at the man, now next to the doorway. A silent bullet grazed White's butt before he was out of the room, out of sight.
Blackwood lowered the gun frustrated by this fail, and bent over Jacob, cupping his head with her hands. "Jacob, Jacob, look at me. It's over, you're fine, Jacob listen." A palm got glued to his cheek, her thumb resting in his cheekbone while the other hand reached quickly for the phone in her purse. All that, while she looked at him, talking, desperately trying to keep him awake or catch his attention, to avoid..ugh. He'll be fine, Ruby. He's Jacob. It will take more than some shitty roofie to bring him down. The blonde was keeping herself somewhat calm, while internally she wished to be able to scream, to push the furniture over, gut this Mr White like the filthiest of fish. "Jacob, you're fine, look at me. There's nothing wrong with you." Calming him down would be the best option, rather than having him panic, while a very familiar number had been speed dialed. Once he picked up the phone, Ruby would request the man's help. "Max, emergency. The university hotel's back alley. We need a ride to the hospital fast." There was really no time for explaining, the unknown serum could be fatal, it could be not, and Ruby felt desperate for the first time in 6 years. She tossed the phone back in the purse while her hand never lefr Jacob's face, and sneaked the free arm around his body from under his arms, trying to lift Jacob from the ground. "Come on, Jacob, you'll be fine, Max is coming to help us." Her voice was shaky already.
The knives all around, it didnt matter now, not even the blood around, not even her gun on the ground, she would call that helper from earlier to tell her to pick up all the weapons and try at least to clean the place. But not now, her main priority was Jacob. She choose to tell Max Madden to meet them in the back, since that exit was closer to their current position in the building, and because no one should see someone getting carried out like dead meat. Oh god, Ruby stop. He wont die. He cant die, he cannot. She was unsure by now if he was still awake or not, but if he went numb that would let her know.
Soon enough, after getting out of the building, Ruby would be waiting to spot Max's car in the street, while trying to lean Jacoib against the hotel's wall for a minute. Dammit he was heavy. At least she didnt have to get him on her shoulders, but drag him out while keeping his arm over her shoulders and his body as close as it could be, to avoid having him slip, fall or god knows what else. If Max would be there already, she would look at him for help and get closer to the car to put Jacob on the backseat. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |

It's a date! There's murder involved Everything was turning very fuzzy, but it wasn’t enough to calm Jacob down. It was like his body wanted to relax, give in into the chemicals coursing through his bloodstream, but his mind knew he shouldn’t and went overdrive with the fear, that became full-fledged panic, there was a strange substance inside him and he had no idea what was it, how toxic it was and how to get it out. Dimly he saw the figure of Jack White, all covered in blood and trying to flee, he tried to take a step in his direction, the wish to finish the mission still somewhat a priority, but immediately his legs gave out and he fell. He felt hands on his neck, and the sudden touch scared him enough that he tried to slap the hands away in a panicked manner. Everything was slow, including his movements, he couldn’t focus for very long, the only constant thought was that he could be dying. There was voice speaking distantly, and it took a few moments for him to actually see Ruby in front of him, calling his name frantically. He blinked sluggishly, her hands felt nice on his face, grounding him enough to ebb the fear away a little, but he was dying maybe, they had to take the substance out of him, it was very important Ruby understood that. “Take it off, Ruby… the… thing.” He couldn’t formulate his words very well, and his voice was just a whisper, he hoped she understood. She was saying it was going to be fine, but what if it wasn’t? He couldn’t tear that thought away “..not fine, help.” He said weakly, slumping against the woman, only catching bits and pieces of what she was saying. There was something about Max? Was Max here? He tried to look around confused, looking for their police friend, but there were only the two of them there. Losing interest, he slumped against Ruby once again, perhaps if he could take a nap he would feel better, but Ruby sounded so worried, he didn’t like the way her voice shook, Ruby was strong, she didn’t get shaky. There was something trying to drag him away, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to go, what if Max showed up? He looked up, seeing it was Ruby, somehow he felt surprised by that, he shouldn’t, she was the only one there, but at least he knew he could trust her to keep him alive. They moved, Jacob was more like a dead weight than anything else, but he was still awake, hearing everything happening around him through a cloud of drug fueled slowness. Something hard hit his back, as the warmness of Ruby’s body went away and Jacob let out pathetic whimper. It was dark outside, and he didn’t have the strength to move, not even enough to lift his head around look at where he was, he stayed in the same position Ruby left him, his eyes still opened and every so often they would blink slowly, that and his slow breathing were the only signs he was still alive.

A murderous & Poisonous
[break] [attr="class","petitsub"]
Date
[attr="class","petit"] [break] [attr="class","petitcontent"] [attr="class","petitcontentstyle"] [attr="class","petitfirstletter"]T It's always interesting how calm the PD could be at late hours. Only very few clicking and tapping on a mouse or a keyboard could be heard throughout the booths and office, a few whispers here and there. Today must be an exceptionally calm day for anyone working in the field of security. No alarming calls coming in from an old lady getting her house mugged, no strange calls of a family member thinking their neighbor is a psychopath, nothing of the sort. At least nothing that filled the PD with noise. Max had just entered the PD, coming back from visiting the harbor, where a few fishermen said they had information about Enigma. Turns out they didn't have anything the PD didn't already have. A waste of time, like many other times. Max had come back to the department only to check on a few files, get some job done while he was still awake and willing to work until he felt like going back home and catch some sleep. [break][break] Over the past few weeks, he insisted to take Lucius at work with him. Yes he found a name for the German Sheppard. It would have been a terrible idea to make his dog respond to the name Max when really it was his human being called. Confusing for both the master and the pup. It had proven a challenge to keep the dog calm when he was doing paper work, and also he couldn't yet bring him on any field work at his side. Too dangerous for such a little guy. And to the pup's greatest sadness, he got fixed. Something that is just necessary for a police dog. And a good police dog Lucius will be, since Max believed he did a very good job in training. The cop sat in his office chair, letting the puppy gnaw on the bunny plushed toy while the cat one rested under it's shoulder in a protective way. So far there hadn't been much preference from any of the two toys, just don't take them away from the pup when he sleeps or he'll bark until you give them back. [break][break] It had been a good hour since Max had been working on getting some job done, feeling his head filled with information he'll probably dump during his sleep. Lucius had fallen asleep on his shoes, and the cop didn't dare move his feet ever since the little brat took place on them. However he was going to get up and try to snatch some coffee without waking up the pup when his phone rang, startling both him and the sleeping GS. He sighed, running a hand on his face before picking the phone up from the desk. Ruby? Why was she calling him at this hour? He almost hesitated in answering since that usually resulted in the order to bring his ass somewhere with the dog so she could make sure he was okay. Not him, the dog. He answered anyway, and when he heard Ruby's voice on the other end, all of those second thoughts were smoldered. She sounded at a level of panic he had rarely heard before, in fact he wasn't even sure he ever heard her being so panicked before. He wanted more explanation from her, as to what was going on, ask her to calm down but she hung up as she finished speaking. The cop looked at his phone, wondering what could possibly be going on. Was this a prank? A joke? Would she even dare? He looked at the time while Lucius looked at him with a head cocked to the side. If Ruby dared play a prank of that level on him, Max would make sure she feels guilty enough not to ever do it again. [break][break] In a few minutes he was in one of the PD cars, driving to the known location with Lucius laying under the passenger seat, both of his toys in his mouth, looking at his master with what looked like worry. With the time it took him to get to the place, Max had all the time to turn and turn again the different possible scenarios in his head, and had grown weary. Of course his pet could feel it. He caught himself driving slightly faster than usual, and on the verge of anger for Ruby not telling him more. If this was a prank.... [break] Soon enough he was at the hotel and drove to the back alley. The first thing he saw was Ruby, wearing a long and elegant blue dress, then he noticed...Jacob? He was hanging dully from her shoulder, and the blond seemed to be supporting his weight. Max didn't bother park the car, he stopped as close as he could and flung open the door, asking Lucius to stay. He shut it closed before, with long strides he joined Ruby's side. "What the fuck is going on? What's wrong with him?!" his voice rang with anger, and also worry now that he saw the situation wasn't a prank, nor a joke. He took Jacob himself under the arm and urged to take him to the car's backseat. When he opened the door, Lucius' first reaction was to bark and jump on the passenger seat, wagging his tail at Ruby and Jacob's presence. Max urged Ruby to get in the back with Jacob before sitting back into the driver seat himself. He shut the door and moved Lucius back under the seat he was jumping on. It was obviously useless and the pup jumped in the back with the two elegantly dressed assassins, putting his paws on Jacob's knees, wagging his tail happily before moving to Ruby. Max didn't bother try to move the dog again and started the engine, driving away from the hotel. [break][break] The cop drove fast to the hospital, and unable to take the patience to deal with traffic, he took out the police siren from the glove box to set it on top of the vehicle. A huge time earner. While he drove, he adjusted the rear mirror, to try to see and understand what was going on with Jacob that he hadn't spoken a word yet. The man seemed to be unable to know where he was, couldn't move by himself. It was worrying, that Jacob who usually always had something to say, was only able to blurt a few incomprehensible words every once in a while. As for Ruby, she never looked so worried, staying close to the merc, seemingly trying to comfort him. Max also noticed something else, something that didn't make much sense to understand what happened with Jacob, but only served to render Max quiet on that very specific subject. Red around the bunny's mouth, fainted lipstick on the cat's own. No need to be the best detective in the world to understand what that meant. "Ruby I think I need some explanations. Just tell me what you can, we can discuss the details later." Max's voice was serious, maintaining his calm as best he could. [break][break] Lucius had tried licking Jacob's face and neck before settling on his lap, apparently able to detect something was aloof with the man, his toys resting on the front passenger's seat. Very quickly, with Max's unusually fast driving, they got to the hospital. He parked right in front of the doors and got out, setting Lucius in the driver's seat and ordering him to stay there. It wasn't going to be a very fun hour for the pup, and Max took two seconds to lower slightly one of the windows before shutting his door and getting Jacob out. "Run to the front desk Ruby and get some help." if Ruby did as he said, he would pick Jacob up by himself in his arms, much like he picked up Lucius when he didn't want to take a bath. He would then walk past the doors as fast as he could until he could get any help from the staff. Ruby Red Blackwood | Why was this happening? Whose toes did they step on to earn a twist of events like this, to make them kneel in worry? Was Jacob's poisoning the punishment for...that? He did not deserve any of this ugly turn of tables! Ruby thought on the spot that if there was anything she could give away to help him, she would. She would do anything to avoid seeing Jacob die, Max too; she became so attached of them, their whole friendship thing was their own weapon of destruction. This is the exact fucking reason why you should have kept on being a fucking toy soldier! No one to risk your life for, and no one to risk their own for you.
That thought- What if, in case Jacob didnt go straight at the man, White would have targeted herself? Could it be that, without them both realising it, Pierce might have saved Red from the same fate? From getting injected with a misterious substance?
Ruby shook her head, pressing her lips together in an almost painful way, her frown expressing more worry than anger. Jacob could not die from this stupid serum. "I'll take it out, don't worry, Jacob. All will be fine." It all sounded like desert promises, but Red kept telling herself that he did not have anyone's permission to die. He just couldnt. Life without Jacob would be....
At the sound of a car approaching the two, Ruby's panicked glare flew towards the cop, her heart skipping a beat in relief. God knows what would have happened if Max did not come, or if he was maybe a minute later. "I dont know, I dont know, we need to get him to the hospital!" The blonde's voice went from shaky to expressing some steel determination. Being weak was not an option, yelling or crying wont help Jacob for sure.
Once the mercenary was in the car and Ruby sat right next to him, keeping her eyes on him constantly. The little Max was frantically jumping around, wanting to play, but it was really not the moment, she couldnt even look once at the dog. It was not her main focus. Madden turned on the police siren, and it really made a difference for the time they took to get to the hospital.
On the way there, Ruby was trying to hold Jacob close to herself, to try to lean him against her side or front, so when the car moved, he wont bang his head against anything. A hand was constantly on his cheek now, but it really just brushed to his neck to keep his pulse under watch. "He.." Blackwood inhaled, swallowing hard, while her lungs inflated and deflated too fast for a normal breathing pace. "..uh, someone injected him something, I don't know what it was, Max.." Red shook her head a bit, feeling her voice shake again, but she shut up just in time. If Jacob stopped moving or trying to harm himself, she would be keeping his head in the crook of her neck and gently caress his curly hair, worry taking over her features again. "...You'll be ok, Jacob.." You won't die on my watch.
The puppy had lost his interest in playing with the two criminals, seeing as none responded to his attempts of toying. Ruby would have to give the puppy a big hug soon, whenever Jacob was safe and sound again. Blackwood felt pure guilt crawl up from her stomach through her throat, nesting itself there like some sort of parasite. She should have been more careful. Should have had his back. The thought that she broke one of her family's rules was haunting her now, never screw over your partner. Jacob could have been just fine now if they were more careful, more..focused.
The hospital came into view, and the woman wasted no time as Max got out of the car and ordered her to get help. She had put the damned syringe in her purse too, to be able to look into whatever substance's details, later when she'll be home again. She rushed through the hospital's doors, running to towards the help desk but screaming from her run "We need a stretcher! Somebody got drugged! Please help!" to waste no time. The person at the desk demanded a bed in the ER to be emptied and the closest avbailable medics to rush to help the two men that would soon walk through the doors too. When they'd be close, Red would go back to open the glass doors for Max and Jacob, darting her glare from the mercenary, to the cop, the nurse pushing a stretcher closer and everyone running around like crazy.
It was a nightmare. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |

It's a date! There's murder involved He was barely awake when the sound of tires reached his ears. He wasn’t sure if this was some kind of dream or some wrapped reality anymore, the only thing he knew was that he couldn’t move, and there were voices, floating around and echoing distantly. He couldn’t make out exact words but the voices were familiar and it warmed him up to hear them, reassuring that everything would probably be fine. He was moved once again, this time no word or sound came out of him, he could be asleep or simply too weak to react. He wasn’t scared anymore though, and vaguely he felt someone caressing his hair, it was relaxing, and Jacob stopped struggling and let his senses slip out completely, and he heard no more. Chaos reigned at the hospital when two people arrived with an unconscious man, screaming for help, and the medical staff scuttering to do their jobs. A stretcher was soon brought out, the nurses instructing to place Jacob on it quickly, but to be careful not to hurt him more, and that’s how they rolled him away from Max and Ruby, a staff making sure they wouldn’t follow. The doctor was being called to treat the possible poisoning, while a nurse asked a hundred and one questions to Max and Ruby. “How long ago was the substance injected?” “What were the symptoms?” “Is he allergic to anything?” “Do you have a sample of the substance we could use to identify?” among other relevant things. Now it was out of the cop and the assassin’s hands, they could only wait as the doctors and nurses did their jobs.

But she was panicked, and Max didn't need to have her get a panic attack right now, he needed her sane, he needed her collected and studying self so she could explain as much as she could to the hospital staff so they could get Jacob back up. Who knew what he had been injected in. It could be some sweet dose of a simple drug that would put him to sleep, or it could be something nasty that could kill him in ten minutes. The way Ruby kept her hand on his neck helped Max feel reassured that she'l tell him if the merc's pulse disappeared. He looked at her for a while, his eyes switching constantly from the rear mirror to the road. "Hey, he's going to be alright. Don't worry, just take deep breaths okay? Just..." he left his voice try to be as comforting as he could muster before adding in a lower tone. "Don't pull a classic 20s woman on me by fainting." his stupid attempt at being funny was ridiculous, but honestly he preferred to try than to leave everything the way it was and let silence set in for too long. [break][break] After passing the hospital door with Jacob in his arms, the staff took care of taking him away to being treated in urgency. Max wished he and Ruby could have followed, but he understood that the staff would need space to treat Jacob correctly. As a few doctors came to urgently ask them a bunch of questions, Max found himself unable to answer any of them. He let Ruby explain if she could, and he hoped that she would be able to pull herself together enough to be able to give all the needed information for them to help Jacob. He made her a sign, that he'll be right back. He needed to park the car elsewhere and check on Lucius. He felt guilty for leaving her with the staff, but he had to get that done or else it might block off urgent cares. He reached his car, finding an exited Lucius inside. He drove to the hospital parking and shut the engine before getting out a bowl of water for Lucius to drink from. He took the pup out and walked him around, trying his best not to waste any time. He had to put Lucius back in the car and leave him in there with only a few reassuring words. Hopefully he'll be able to get back to him soon, maybe even smuggle him inside the hospital later. [break][break] When he came back inside the main hall, Ruby must have been just about done with the staff. As he joined her, he looked at her face, a tension in his eyes he was unable to hide despite trying his best to relax himself. It won't save Jacob to tense up, he had to be calm for Ruby's sake, to keep her calm as well. That pretty dress she was wearing, it wasn't keeping her warm enough, was one of the first things Max could focus on. He took off his own coat and wrapped it around her shoulders, keeping it closed for her for a few seconds before pulling her closer to him, rubbing his hands on her back gently. He was still thinking about the small things he saw in the car, the lips of the two, connected by the same lipstick. He and Ruby had talked this through. If they found somebody else, then they would stop their exclusivity like they have come to call it. He couldn't help but feel slightly hurt at the thought that the somebody else would be Jacob. There was a small tug in his chest, urging him to feel angry about it. It probably made things easier for them to have it that way however. At least Max wasn't to be tugged between two people he liked too much for his own good. He didn't want to be angry about it, not now. He had never been sure about his feelings for the two, but that small detail he noticed cut short his thoughts on the subject for now. [break][break] He took deep breaths and looked at the staff running around while he still held Ruby close to him, possibly a little too overly protective of her. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice as comforting as possible. "Do you want some coffee? Some tea? Something to eat? I'm sure I can get you something." right now he felt like some father or older brother ready to do anything to calm down and comfort the one person that mattered right now. His eyes came back constantly to the door he saw the staff take Jacob through. If they didn't come out in ten minutes to tell them how their bunny was, he would break those doors down himself to see him with his own eyes. He rested his chin on Ruby's blond head, realizing how holding her that way made him calm.
