Elliot Mackie + @maxim Welcome to Chicago, meet the Chief of Police. He's kind of an asshole. Don't worry, he doesn't bite. Well, not hard. Elliot graduated from UC, but that was over twenty years ago, and he's got about a decade on Maxim's age. Since Maxim seems to be a shady criminals type, we'll have to build from there, because Elliot doesn't like to fuck around and he'll pretty much just barge in anywhere guns blazing to try and keep the criminal population under his thumb. But the PD is pretty preoccupied with trying to rebuild itself after it got, y'know, fucking bombed. And Elliot's really pissed and stressed about it. With that, do you have any ideas how these two might come to interact?

As groggy as he felt, as cold as the bathroom floor stung his bare feet, Elliot could not get himself to admit, even secretly, that he hated the early morning shifts. Of course they were awful, it was still dark outside when he woke at 4:30 in the morning, and he was forced to be extra quiet as he went about his morning routine (to wake his wife would be an absolute sin). But needs must, and so he met them.
Being a deputy chief brought the needs, and it also brought perks. Instead of a squad car, he had finally gained enough pull to take a personal vehicle on his morning commute—a flip-open wallet with a badge tucked carefully into the glove compartment, and his concealed-carry handgun in the console, just in case. He hadn't had to use them for any real criminal pursuits, but it was better safe than sorry. Too many cops learned that the hard way. This morning, the commute took him through the bad end of town, no thanks to a pile-up accident on the other route. At least there was little traffic this morning, especially this early. Elliot sighed as he switched the radio reception to an FM station. The scanners were quiet. Too quiet. Something was probably jamming it, but he couldn't do anything about it in his car. Not my fucking job.
It was his fucking job, however, to protect and serve. Elliot had lowered the driver's and passenger's windows the slightest bit, and as he pulled up to yet another red light, the hair bristled on the back of his neck as a man's voice cracked through the air. And a dog barking. That was even worse. Given the part of town he was in, the officer wasn't about to ignore it. He found the nearest sidewalk to park alongside, grabbed his badge and pistol, scrambled out of the car and followed the yelling on foot. He took off down the sidewalk at a light jog, holding the pistol in both hands, pointed at the ground, safety off.
He had only just rounded the next street corner when he saw the dog, barking like crazy into the alley where the skirmish must be going on. Elliot went faster, then halted to a stop some five yards from the dog. He was crazy getting so close to an angry animal he knew nothing about. Chalk one up to the adrenaline rush. But the dog did not approach him. Instead, it stood its ground outside the alley, turned in the officer's direction and stopped barking, just for a moment before backing up. That was highly unusual, but promising and Elliot snapped around the corner of the alley, pistol at the ready. What he found there set him on high alert.
"Chicago Police!" he yelled, and almost immediately the assailant froze like the fear of God had struck him. "Drop the knife and back the fuck off! Hands behind your head!" template by bethany

Ruby Blackwood + Elliot MackieOh my god you are just perfect seriously let me hug you. Elliot finding someone in his chair... warrants a stern talking to. If you know what I mean. Stern... yeah, let's call it that. And car chases are fucking awesome. I love the idea of the two events in continuity! You know I love anything that irks Elliot. One of these days he's just going to be forced to lose it. Ah, sweet insanity.

@jillian + Elliot MackieEwww worms, poor doggie, that makes for some gross hilarity. Elliot can spray some blood on the walls but maybe that kind of stuff gives him the heebie jeebies? Perhaps there are other vets that work with the dogs too, but Jillian is highly trusted since she has experience with police dogs (sorta). I like the idea of a meeting for the first time thread. Either when he just becomes chief, or maybe her first day coming in to get acquainted/check up on the dogs?

@jillian
Sacrificial lamb? Who let Anthony Hopkins in here? Anyway, on the off chance he's not brooding and ordering people around, sure he'll take some time out of his day to fuck up a mugger or something. That's the thrill of it, pinning a guy on his chest and cuffing his hands behind his back! So Jill has the experience to work with police dogs, that's good enough for Elliot and I. Autobots, roll out!

Pretty Little Miss @jillian + Elliot Mackie That is absolutely perfect! I mean, there has to be someone that Elliot doesn't fucking yell at all the time. Her skittishness will warrant some scowls, head-shaking and/or eye-rolling, but I don't see any major skirmishes going on. And despite his reputation (and behavior) of acting like an asshole, he's not a sexist pig. There are plenty of women on the police force and he treats them just as well (or as badly) as the men. Just do your fucking job! That being said, civilians are different, so he might actually try and not be a dickwad in front of her.

@jillian + Elliot Mackie Okay, maybe Jillian works with the K9 unit of the police force? They're bound to be using the dogs far more often now, and dogs need vets. Perhaps a plot of some sort could come of that. Or at least a thread. I don't know how she'll feel about Elliot's captain-of-this-motherfucking-ship demeanor. But she's probably at least competent and a cutie. Mm.

ABOUTPeoria, Illinois is the picturesque community where Elliot grew up, but you wouldn't know it just by meeting the guy. His reputation precedes him; the so-called fearless leader of the Chicago Police Department is known for his rough-and-tumble, direct approach to the crime crackdown in and around the city. It's caused quite a controversy, even stirring up protests against what some believe to be corrupt and over-violent methods of work (which may or may not be true, hmmm). He's a cold and stubborn sort, and runs a tight ship. He's the type of guy you'd be lucky to have on your good side, because if you're on his bad side... You know what, let's just not even go there. FRIENDSElliot knows where his loyalties lie, and he is loyal to a fault once you've gained his trust. It's hard to say if there are very many people he actually "likes," but I'm always open to suggestions and interactions to see how his positive relationships work out. Maybe he hangs out with the guys in his free time. Goes to the bar. The game (not the Cubs, what a fucking let down). Other than that, he's patient and direct, ENEMIESDo I really need to write anything for this? The Enigma, the Bianchi (to some extent, in his opinion they're far more organized and subtle in their work, which makes them less of a problem). It's his job to keep the law, and if you're gonna break it, he's gonna try and make sure you're staring down the business end of a nine millimeter. If you're not a criminal and you're trying to start an argument, expect the cold shoulder or busywork as punishment. He's stubborn as all hell, and he won't hesitate to let you know when you've royally fucked up. LOVERSIf I told you this guy's wife left him, would you even be surprised? Because that's exactly what happened. He eschews traditional "dating" and romantic relationships now, as they get in the way of work and are generally just an overbearing, unnecessary distraction. Sex is different, though, and if that's how things play out IC, then so be it. Just don't expect pancakes and coffee in the morning.

"What made you decide to become a police officer?" I hate when people ask me that. There's no easy answer to that question. Everyone has a different reason for doing anything, and as much as some people might like to prove otherwise, police officers are people, too.
Kids love playing "cops and robbers", but the kid who plays the cop doesn't always become one. Actually, I liked to play the robber. Of course, when you're that young, you understand right and wrong, but only in an individual sense. Someone punches you, they're the bad guy. You're the good guy. Good guys have to beat the bad guys, so you punch them back, over and over until they finally get the message to not fuck with you... and then you're the one in charge, until you get punched in the face again. That's how justice works when there are no laws.
I grew up in Peoria, which was slow, peaceful and boring. You might say I had the "perfect childhood". We moved to Chicago when Dad got a new accounting promotion. I was in my freshman year of high school, and while I had been skeptical about the change of pace, I soon found out the truth about city schools—no matter how "nice" your school was, even teenagers could practically be criminals, if they weren't already. I was completely unprepared. Before you could make a fist, I was getting in fights. I wasn't just the brunt of the blows, either. I slammed a stupid punk into a locker on far more than one occasion, which needless to say didn't help my stunning reputation as an honors student. But I wasn't going to just stand there and let myself get kicked around. I've never been like that. You've gotta do everything to keep yourself alive, even if it means smashing a few faces into the concrete.
~~~~~~~~~~ Elliot joined the police force with a criminal justice degree from the University of Chicago. The job was slow at first, restricted to desk duty, which was extremely frustrating. He passed his field duty training on time with almost perfect marks. He ascended steadily as anyone else, though his aggressive, even reckless decision-making was generally frowned upon. Regardless, he continued to gain rank over the process of years, and was appointed Chief of Police in 2013, to the dismay of much of the rest of the PD. "It's time we finally took action," the mayor had said as he handed over the plaques and congratulatory paraphernalia. He shook Elliot's hand. ~~~~~~~~~~ Bang bang, he shot me down Bang bang, I hit the ground Bang bang, that awful sound Bang bang, my baby shot me down. ~~~~~~~~~~ Where did it all go wrong? Elliot and his wife had been married for eight years and had two children. They lived in a nice house away from the belly of the city, on a relatively quiet street with grass, trees, neighbors. None of the inorganic coldness of downtown Chicago. The commute was killer, but worth the paycheck... or perhaps not. You're always working, we never see you anymore, your children don't know you, are you having an affair, you leave for days, I don't know you anymore, what have you become....?
The list went on in the same cliche one would see in movies. And then, of course, came the inevitable. I want a divorce.He slammed his palm down onto the kitchen counter, and she started to cry. Elliot glowered and turned his back to her, starting for the door to the garage. "We can talk about this later," he said as he slid into his shoes. "I won't be home for dinner."As he drove to work that morning, the silence of the car was the most beautiful thing he'd ever heard. ~~~~~~~~~~~
Elliot stared down his nose at the recruits, the glare in his eyes reminiscent of the days he would spend in the area jails interrogating petty thieves and vandals dragged in from the projects. A fucking lunatic, some called him. A god damn genius, said others. To him, they looked like puppies, tails tucked between their legs struggling not to pee on the floor for fear of a swat with a newspaper. They had all passed the entrance exams, but now came the preliminaries, and they would decide which ones would be able to hold a gun and a field badge, and which ones would get to play watchdog for most of the day. They would each get their carry license, but only a few would actually deserve it, in his opinion.
"First things first-- Chief Elliot Mackie. You will address me as Chief, Boss, or Sir. It is more or less the same for your other superiors. Welcome." The forced polite smile on his face melted into an acidic scowl. "This is what you might call the 'big day.' You will learn to work as a team. One step out of line means you get kicked out of line, and there are no second chances. Your training captain will be around in a few minutes, so in the meantime, I suggest you all do some hard-core growing up. You're not using nerf guns anymore. There are no game rules. Remember: when you're in the field, your enemy is always trying to kill you, so don't fuck it up."
As he turned and exited the locker room, he felt the aggressive anxiety in the room grow tangible. He smirked, beside himself.
It was good to be king.
