Ruby Red Blackwood | He was depriving her of being able to see the reaction on his face, in his eyes and in every single muscle; but not fully. Attentive fit Ruby just fine, in general. Her focus tonight was shared equally between the given mission (helping Jacob cause Mr White's accidentaly death) and a newly assigned task, more like a personal soon-to-be achievement though: Jacob.
She didnt mean it as some name on a hit-list, or on a fling-list, she settled the purpose of this task to be only one, exploring Jacob's reactions and the extent of his facial expressions. Could he blush until he was turned in a tomato? Could he get red as the blood? Was there something that could make him stutter when speaking? Or even better, leave him... speechless? He sure was a mess when it came to hiding emotions, hence his desperate need of a mask. But the masked mercenary was no longer a questioning sign in the blonde's name list. He was not mentioned, actually. The only name you could find was Jacob, and it was mentioned under the title 'Friends' .
So the initial purpose of her self assigned task was not to attempt some witty seduction trick or to do god knows what else. It was simply making Jacob's face burn. She managed to break people easily, or manipulate them into doing all sorts of stuff - but with Jacob this wouldnt work, and she wouldnt forgive herself for doing such mischievious thing to a friend. Frankly, she did not want Jacob in the true meaning of the words. She didnt want anyone. There was no room for love in this game. Love kills you, slowly, and leaves your body rotting in the absence of a soul. She didnt need that.
"This mess sure looks familiar..." Ruby commented, knowing that Pierce would easily realise how she was hinting at Max's place. Sure, it was not always a dump, but the woman was 250% sure that whenever the two criminals didnt visit the cop, his place was a lost cause.
"I've found a new dump, if that counts.." Sure it didnt, and from the woman's voice, she was quite disappointed by what surroundings they had to investigate. For a moment, Ruby thought they were quite lucky to be lacking light actually, they wouldnt need to see the mess that way. So darkness had its perks.
"I would, if I could see anything!" Jacob took her joke as a rude comment probably, but with his sense of humor and both of their sarcasm levels, you could never be sure. It was her fault for blaming him, really, but rather than apologising, Ruby lowered her voice in a whisper and tried to regain her balance (by moving her foot) yet failing. Stuck, her heel got stuck.
Somewhere in-between the carpet and the dresser's lowest edge, her heel got blocked. If she tried to give it a good shake, it would either break or make her lose balance again, so this was a problem that had to be dealt with slow, and steady. Ruby brushed her palm away from the wooden surface, onto the man's elbow, trailing it up on his shoulder, now having both hands placed identically. "Stand still, my heel is stuck." Her calm whisper could be heard again, and she was sure Jacob could hear her well, given their closeness. With his hand on her waist and the momentum that betrayed the woman, Red's body was pretty much leaning against Birdy's own. What was truly frustrating though, was the heel's stubborness.
'Heat of the moment' : Acting or speaking on impulse, without actually thinking, meaning or realising your own doings. The term will haunt her forever.
Ruby's chin was lowered, as she was trying to somehow see her shoe, but the darkness was a pain in the ass. So instead of just looking down at nothing, she though that eye contact would be a lot less awkward for Jacob. She raised her head, searching with her glare for the man's own, while a brow furrowed in a thoughtful way. "Wait, I think I got it." Still in a soft whisper, her words came slowly through her plump lips, and she tilted her foot gently, yet no change. Ugh, this was pointless. The moon was up on the night's sky, illuminating the small area next to the windows and the two themselves with its pale, blue-ish light. The light was constantly on Jacob's back, sneaking through his curls and each time he shifted. Blackwood's eyes darted from Jacob's each, and in that moment, there was something creeping through her rib cage. It felt like a light shiver at first, but it had no physical outcome, and it faded just as it came. Her look fell on the criminal's lips by mistake, and the assassin closed the only gap left between them, with a soft kiss, at first just testing the grounds. Why are you doing this? This isnt what you had in mind, not what you wanted. Her thoughts appeared truthful, but there was no hidden reasoning behind this sudden action.

So what if they broke into his house again, it's not like he made any effort to get a better lock, or better security administrations. So it was basically Max's fault that the two broke into his home. Logical, right? "You never actually told us not to break into your house.." Ruby added as a casual comment with a shrug. All on camera, Max. Not used to gifts? Well, too bad, because if Max didnt die on them this year, there were more presents to come, on every occassion. "Well, get used to it fast." The blonde added, and nodded after the mercenary's comment. Who was he kidding, even with the criminals around, the puppy would still get all the attention for sure, just look at it! "The name seemed fit for him." A little wicked smirk curled up on her face and Ruby shot both of the men some glares.
Killing a target and taking their dog sounded like something only a drunk person would do. Or something Max could think about. "Maybe...maybe not?" The woman tilted her head to the sides while speaking, chuckling once and letting Jacob explain it all. "Getting this dog is probably the most legal thing we've done in a while." She was kidding, of course. Who knows what other legal things Jacob did anyway?
They all went silent after Ruby's statement about love. Such a bunch of cowards, oh god, they could go in an open field and shoot aimlessly at targets surrounding them but couldnt look someone in the eye and tell them they loved them? What was this all about? If there were rewards for being a coward, those two would recieve them, twice. It's not like the blonde was any wiser and braver when it came to such...emotions, but she didnt think they would take her statement so personally. She counted on them laughing or cracking jokes about it, but..turned out she hit a soft spot. Max hugged them both out of nowhere, and Ruby's gaze lifted from the dog now roaming free to the French (a bit confused) and looked over his shoulder at Jacob. So...Max loved them back? Blackwood put a hand between his shoulderblades, patting him a few times unsure on how much the hugging should last. She gave up at some point and just hugged back. "It's our pleasure, Max." A sincere smile was thrown at him.
Regarding the other present box, under the wrapping and the red ribbon, the box was filled with quite some stuff. There was a spiky collar for the actual dog and a black leash, to go with any other color; two little plush toys, rabbit and cat meant for the German Shepherd to play with. And since the pet was covered, Madden's new belongings consisted in a sheriff star with 'Max' embedded, a pair of red boxers with three black diamonds (card style) on one of the butt cheeks. Hilariously, the underwear had 90% chances to fit Madden, since Ruby loved to and wa fairly good at aproximating all sorts of sizing and measurements, be it clothing, suspects' height or weight etc. And there was obviously a men's necklace with a dog tag that had a cat's outline on a face, and a bunny's on the other. Ruby loved what she did with the contents with that box. "You still have a present left, to open. I'd be cautious with that one though." She teased with a chuckle, once the hugging and the moment would be over.

No "no guns/knives" rules, nor "no incidents" pointers, Max really hoped for the best apparently. He was right to do so, it was his birthday, people usually behaved on such days. Jacob and Ruby would obviously aim to display their best behaviours, or at least try. For now, the day seemed to have been started in the right way. No one got upset, emotionally exhausted (even though Ruby was being a bit sentimental, but hopefully no one will notice) or just generally fed up with the others' presence. Max was so paranoid, it was a bit surprising (but not really) that he didnt take Red's words for granted, did he really think the two would hurt him now? After everything? Of course they would, but it would be less painful and it wont occur today. (They owe him that much) "Yeah, but is it a good scare, or a bad scare?" The woman didnt actually expect an answer, and she made that obvious when she smirked and gave the man a wink. It was so fun to tease him and play with his mind sometimes, it was like a drug.
A cup of coffee to start the day with was a better idea than munching on a piece of cake the first thing in the morning. It would also wake Max up a bit, shake off that impression that this was all just a dream..or maybe a nightmare? Red walked to the kitchen too, making a mental note on how the cop hadnt tossed the criminals' artwork away. Though, she didnt feel the need to gulp down any coffee, so she let the men grab theirs and followed back to the presents. Ruby put the camera on the coffee table's end, away from anything that could flip it on the floor, and let it record from there. If the two objected the whole filming, later, she would have no problem turning it off. Then, it was show time.
Max stared at the box, asking worried questions before gathering the courage to open it up. "It's not a mini tiger, stop being suspicious." The blonde chuckled, thinking the cop's dislike for cats was indeed from the near-death experience with a Bianchi tiger. ..and his pet. Both Jacob and Ruby felt disappointment fill up inside of them when Madden appeared to think the dog was a joke. What? Was the puppy ugly? Did Max not like German Shepherds? He didnt even give him a chance.. The woman thought sadly, looking up at the French with a not understanding glare. She didnt get it, what was wrong with the pup? Did Max hate pets? Her glare moved on Jacob then, transmitting him the same sad glimpse from her orbs. So..the idea sucked? Dammit! She should have known. "Why would it be a joke?" Did Madden also think their presence here was also a joke...?
The puppy soon had effect on Max, and the pair looked like they were meant for each other. Blackwood's disappoint vanished, a relieved little sigh announcing its departure. The ends of her lips turned up again, in a genuine smile. Jeez, these pets are so great. Madden's baby talk was hilarious, but Ruby wouldnt laugh. She was grinning like an idiot at the scene, and she finally gave a chuckle at Pierce's glare. The puppy now laid in his owner's arms, and the blonde could bet that he was enjoying the feeling of having a new home and a loving owner. She let the mercenary speak, raising a brow as he spoke about trapping animals, but letting it go for now. She raised her palm near the pup's belly to tickle it with her fingers and put an elbow up on the couch's backrest sitting between Madden and the armrest (similar to how Jacob was situated) .
They were obviously happy, to see Max enjoy his new companion's presence, and to actually see the cop be happy. Genuine happiness, pure peace, for once. "The puppy loves you as much as we do, Max." People say nothing compares to a dog's love, even though the two criminals probably held much powerful sentiments than that. Those feelings just needed to..take their time and crawl out of the vaults they've been sealed in. Her eyes did not betray any hidden reasons to say that, and her voice hinted at no lies. Though while speaking, she looked directly at the man's eyes, and then lately moved her glare on Jacob's, before settling on the pup again. Maybe she was a bit afraid that Madden wouldnt think the same about the two, or now, the three.

Ruby wasnt aware that both Max and Jacob were taking her soft actions as showing affection, or as something that was created by any sort of "thing" they both referred to, when talking about relationships or friendships. The truth was, she wished to be able to stay away from them, watch with an uninterested gaze and have her arms folded, look as she didnt give a damn about these two. But Red simply couldnt. Oh, she was able to fake it, no problems there. But living it for real, it wasnt possible. Maybe because they got too close of her, or maybe it was too late to back away now- what mattered was that she cared for Max as much as she cared for Jacob. The lattest man was more complicated when it came to being affectionate though, so words and small gestures should be the ice breakers for now. Pierce's odd look was replied to with a confused, maybe even questioning glare from the woman. She could caress Jacob's curls as well, if that's what he wanted, he just had to come closer. And the mercenary gave up on trying to hurry Madden into waking up, though his excitement was making him a bit pushy. It was really sweet however, to see him put his heart in this day's plans. Yet Max making the rules..that was supposed to go wrong at some point. "Jacob's right, we just wanna be with you on your birthday. And you will love what we though about doing for you." The blonde grinned, her eyes having that moschevious glimpse in them.
The French got out of the bed lazily, looking a bit skeptical to lose the criminals from his sight. Ruby raised herself from the man's bed, straightening her clothes and joining her hands under her chest, waiting for him to be ready. No plans? Perfect! Jacob was glad to hear that too, and it was no surprise, really. Even if Max had plans, the criminals would probably beg for him to cancel everything. Or at least less important stuff, like PD meetings.. "I think we should go to the livingroom, there's more space for us to celebrate." There was a reason why Ruby suggested moving, and it was because Jacob's words on the presents reminded her of the puppy waiting. So she grabbed the video camera, holding it steady in her palm while moving to the bedroom's door, walking backwards to capture Jacob and Max's moves. Luckily the Israeli didnt bump into the doorframe or anything, and she waited for them to follow. Once they would all be in the living, the blonde would point the camera at the coffee table and the present boxes under it. The one with the little dog was quiet for now, the shadow casted by the table hid a little button nose poking at the little air holes. "Hey Max, what's that?" Like a parent hinting to her child to go check out a present, Ruby looked at the Frenchman and at the pet's box, smirking lately at Jacob. The present she brought could wait some more.

Pff, he wouldnt dare go back to sleep! Jacob would probably wake-stab him on the spot. Max was so lazy when he was just waking up, but who wasnt anyway? His sloth like behaviour was natural. Ruby thought about letting him relax for a few minutes in bed, just sitting in silence, happiness and staring at the ceiling. Her ribcage felt like exploding, being filled with something so strange, people called it happiness. And it was no longer that excitement from before, she didnt feel like a 5 year old bouncing around the house anymore. It was just the domestic feeling surrounding the three and dipping them into some spiritual peace. The cop raised himself finally, picking up the video camera brought by the blonde. It was still recording indeed, and now it would capture some good moments of their friendship. "Geez, your hair and face are fine, stop complaining." The woman chuckled, rolling her eyes and running a hand through his brown hair to ruffle it a bit more, being gentle though. She looked at Jacob as the French asked about their plans, and smiled, pointing her glare at the camera. Then, Pierce hurried the man out of the blanket's warmth and the mattress' softness. But hey, it's the cop's birthday, he should be able to do what he wants, for once. "Jacob, it's his birthday, if he wants cake in bed, he'll get cake in bed." With a little smirk and a soft laugh, Red retrieved her hand from Max's hair and attempted to grab the recording device again, to place it back on the nightstand. "I hope you didnt have any plans for today, since now we're your plans." She jokingly said, stretching her arms above her head. The man's sleepyness was rubbing onto her for sure.

As expected, Jacob took her comment in a personal matter, which really made Ruby feel a bit bad for giving him that idea. "Hm? No, geez, I wasnt talking about you or anything. I was trying to comfort us both if Max rejects Max. Sorry if it seemed like a hint or something, it really wasnt." He was obviously just teasing her on that matter, but it was better to clarify things than to leave him suspicious. The two shared their first feelings when it came to the French though. Red wasnt exactly too fond of the one supposed to interrogate and close her up in a cell either. But he turned to be some goofball. Plus, if you get to know a person, all your first inhibitions melt away. Usually. With Jacob it was more simple. They were both criminals, both looking out of themselves and making sure they survived in front of the enemy. And when they met, he didnt appear as an enemy. Frankly Ruby thought he was quite foolish, but as expected, it was just a false assumption. If the three ever fought, and broke this great frienship (which would be devastating and awful) , Jacob and Ruby would always have this tape with leverage though. But was it so? If something horrible happened, and the blonde would rewatch it, she would probably be silently sobbing till the end of it. Memories..bringing out the best in people and their relationships. Such a cruel thing.
Madden would be surprised on how chatty the PD's employees are. Andrea was no exception, and his birthday's date spread around like a fire. First Ruby, then Jacob found out. Imagine if Shaun did too. Have mercy. Madden adjusted his position, after slowly waking up, and didnt seem to be too outraged by the fact that his bed got invaded as his personal space did. But who even cared about that anyway? Not even Jacob, Blackwood could bet. The worst? Were they really? Oh, wait until he sees his presents. Ruby grinned, watching him enthusiastically and allowing Jacob to get out some of his excitement, through words. "Joyeux anniversaire, Max!" Yes, that was an attempt at expressing the words she looked up on google in her own accent, hopefully to make this morning more familial for the French. Blackwood let her arm rest across Madden's torso as Pierce's own, placing the side of her head on the man's pectoral. Ruby was probably betraying Jacob a bit, not having told him everything she had up her sleeve, but it was not a big deal either. The woman had been so excited about this, all she could to to calm down was plan more of the event. "Oh come on, how are we the worst? Didnt you hear, we got you cake~ " With a chuckle, Ruby looked at Jacob, before looking back up at the French, with a smile. Should they tell him about the camera? Nah.. Wouldnt make a difference anyway.

A brilliant ideea, yes. But Ruby remembered on the spot how Max once said that gifting someone a pet without asking would be risky. They might not like, want, or be ready for such a companion. It was true that there came great responsabilities with the life of a domestic animal. A pet ate a lot of time, money and energy to be attended to, but those would be no problem. If Madden needed any kind of help taking care of Max, Ruby and Jacob would be there to aid him. Be it dogsitting, dropping by with some extra food or just taking mini Max out for a walk while big Max was at the PD- the criminals would sure be happy to help indeed. "I hope not. But if so, everyone dislikes someone when they first meet them, right? It will go with time." Ruby was definitely not trying to hint at the three's relat-. Friendship . It was just how she portrayed many people meeting a new pet or being introduced to someone who didnt sound so..great. Hopefully Pierce didnt take it as a wrong hint or as the woman being rude. The best thing about trained killers: they dont make noise. It was so great to have the element of surprise on their behalf, plus Blackwood was super excited already and a job well done really boosted her confidence. She believed and deeply hoped that today would be the French's greatest day, since he moved to Chicago. The blonde grabbed the little party hat from her bag, adjusted its form so it wouldnt be folded, and held it with a hand. With the video camera strapped to the other palm, Ruby started recording. She held her arm extended at a good distance, so if they watched the tape, no one would have big alien heads or massive facial features, and walked soundlessly towards Jacob. The camera would always be pointed ahead, after she had stopped side by side with the man, waved at the camera and waited for the mercenary to at least smile too. She had this cheeful smile on her lips, like it was Hanukkah. Then, with the camera pointed at the cop's bed, she would finally notice the peaceful, sleeping Max. Would be a shame if someone woke him up, right?
She scanned the room for a moment, sneaking closer to the man on the bed and capturing a few seconds of him sleeping, before setting the device on a closer desk. Red tried to avoid to stay in the view while doing so, or at least only let her face be seen, not some abstract shirt part or abdomen. The camera was pointed at Madden's bed, not capturing whatever happened out of its range, obviously. The party hat shall stay on the French's night stand for now, they would hate to wake him right on the spot by giving him a strange feeling of having something being placed on his head. Jacob seemed to be waiting for some instructions, and Blackwood thought of something to do. She eyed the sides of the bed, and looked at Jacob to grab his attention. Her hands gesticulated for the man to go sit on the bed behind Max and hug him, while she approached the opposite side again and held a hand for Jacob to wait for the signal. They should do this at the same time, slowly without startling him, so it would be taken as kindhearted not like an evil way to wake/scare someone. When Birdy would be ready, Blackwood would hold three hands up and mouth the countdown.
Once both of them would be laying at Madden's sides (Ruby didnt move his hand, only tried not to put too much weight on it) , and both would have a hand placed on the cop's side, Ruby would place a small kiss on his forehead and wait for the day to truly start.

Hm, maybe Jacob was not so emotionless as she thought. So he found puppies to be adorable, what else? That would be the woman's personal quest, to get to know Birdy better. On the other hand, Jacob was worrying for nothing. If that dog would change the cop's apartmemt, he would change it in better. Animals dont like dumps. Max was an exception. And a few months back, Ruby would have laughed at that conclusion, but now the blonde felt miserable for calling him an animal, a pet. Oh, give me a break Ruby and snap out of it. Were her thoughts, and she decided to reply to the man after a moment of zoning out in her own thoughts. "He'll be fine." The statement had no specific tone, being followed by a huff. Two is a pair, three is a crowd (or a threesome) but four isnt exactly safe when one half belongs to the PD and the others are crooks. "He doesnt need anyone else anyway." Ruby smirked, cocking a brow and turning her head towards the window, watching her reflexion in the glass before focusing on the moving view. When Pierce expressed his excitement too, Ruby offered him a grin and looked behind at the box with the pup, a bit afraid that mini Max would push the box over and fall from the bench. She glared at the box until the scratching softened, and the dog began sniffing at the holes again. Its actions were kinda limited. Why not take a nap, it was a mistery. With her eyes pointed at the road ahead, the woman held the video camera's casing in her lap and fiddles with the zipper attached to it. "I still cant believe you agreed to this, buying him a pet and everything." She chuckled, looking at Jacob and the steering wheel once he stopped at a red light. Damn traffic laws.
Once the car ride was over, Blackwood opened the door and made sure to not bang the device against anything, hanging it from her wrist again since she migjt need her hands for sure. "I'll get him." Following Pierce's instructions as if they were direct orders, Ruby went to retrieve the box with the German Shepherd from the back bench, stacking the present box on top of it since both had almost the same weight. And the breathing holes were on the sides of the box as well, so it wasnt like she was killing mini Max or anything. Now, if he would stop shifting..
Red thanked the curly-haired man for holding the door, and advanced towards the evelator. Who put this music in the metal cages, seriously?? If the building is in flames, do people expect you to calm down from this jazz or what? The blonde rested the boxes on top of the small bar across the wall with the mirror and followed Jacob to the apartment once the jazzy ride was over. With a smirk now all over her face, Ruby accepted the offer and proceeded to open the door. With her knee up against the wall to balance the boxes on her thigh, and a hand working on the lock, she tried to make as little noise as possible, including all the almodt inaudible twitching of the lock and the paperclip (an item constantly in her pockets) . She twisted the knob slowly, no sound coming out, and pushed the door open being glad that it wasnt creaky or anything to jeopardize this. The silence around was suspicious indeed, but eh. It was Max. He could be showering, sleeping or out to annoy someone, who knew?
Once inside, the woman sneaked towards the living room, knowing her way around his house better than the warehouse now. She put the present box on his coffee table, and the puppy under it so it wouldnt be visible just yet. She took out the camera from the bag, turning it on , glad that it didnt make any beeping.

Ruby was not exactly 'addicted' to locks, or security in general- only paranoid. But locks did make a fancy accessory. Maybe she would eventually pick out some beautiful locks, and once she cant attach them to anything, she would start a collection. Then, distribute each and every one of them to her friends, enemies, etc. Ruby looked at Jacob surprised, though her brows quickly furrowed in a confused, yet curious way. Did the man just say 'adorably annoying'? "I dont recall ever hearing you say anything that close to 'adorable', before. Are you alright, Jacob?" The question was followed by a chuckle, and Ruby noted how he had related Max the French to those two traits. So Pierce found Madden hyperactive and annoyingly cute too, huh? Or maybe the blonde's choice of words held a different meaning. "I told you it would be a great idea. Plus, maybe the dog will have a good influence on our Max. You know? It's a win-win." The dog would definitely need to be taken out, Max got some fresh air like that, and if the puppy would pull faces at the chinese takeout's smell, who knows? The French would have to change his disgusting diet. Andrea..she didnt know if the PD's hacker was coming too, Blackwood might have actually forgotten to invite her. Now she felt horrible, great.. "I dont know how much of a good friends she and Max are, if he made plans today I guess she might have been invited by him. I just didnt want to appear rude to Max, inviting his colleagues without his consent. And nor to Andrea, what if she feels weird around us three? Maybe some other time." Ruby's explication was hopefully clear enough, she just did not want to risk anything. The woman waited for Jacob to exit the apartment, before pushing the door closed with her foot and bending her side to lock the door. Once at the car, Pierce placed the food in the backseat next to the box with the cop's future companion, and Ruby situated herself where Birdy instructed after leaving the present box in the back too. She could see a little black button hovering behind the breathing holes of the box, presumedly the dog's nose poking in curiosity. Once at the French, he would sure have enough space to run around. "I'm so excited, I shouldnt be that excited." Red chuckled, buckling her seatbelt. Jacob Pierce Max Madden

It took the mercenary less than she would have thought, to arrive at her place and knock on her door. Ruby jumped a bit, not from surprise but from excitement, and went towards the door with a grin all over her face. Ruby ran through the 5 locks quickly, either by rotating several buttons or by sliding a little chain away from the metal bar on the doorframe. Until she was accustomed to the new neighbours, the apartment complex altogether, the locks would stay- all of them. But with that gun forever under her pillow and the knife on her nightstand, she had a pretty good advantage already. No weapons today though, that was the rule. No one actually stated it, but she figured Max wouldnt act all happy with someone flashing a gun around like it's a party hat. Opening the door and seeing Jacob's frame stand there, Ruby greeted him and swung the door wide open so he could come in. "Jacob! You're here, good. Can you help with taking the food?" The woman moved away from the doorway, going to retrieve everything else from the table and wait for Pierce to grab the cake box and the treats. She could help him if he wanted, or needed it, but Red figured he had enough muscles anyway. So with the purse hanging from her shoulder, the video camera's casing that clung from her wrist and with the present box being held in her arms, the blonde was ready to go. She expected Jacob to have brought the living gift with him too, thinking they shouldnt just make useless trips around the town. "How's Max behaving?" Ruby asked with a smirk, refering to the little dog, and walking to the door to hold it with her foot for Jacob to have no reason to stumble around when exiting the apartment. Max Madden Jacob Pierce

" It's party time~ " The text was sent from a woman's phone, to one of the numbers on her speed dial list - Jacob, more specifically. The device got tucked back into one of the jacket's pockets. The text's sender moved away from the mirror above the dresser, smirking cheerfully to herself while she hurried towards the kitchen, opening the fridge to take out a big cartoon box. It was quite heavy, it had a solid tray as support, and it got packed like that with an hour earlier. With the box on the table now, Ruby hurried back to her bedroom, and ran through some drawers in search of a confetti bag she had bought in the morning. It couldnt really be pass 9:30 AM right now, if that was even the case. The confetti pack got placed in the woman's bag, as well as a party hat, that would have to be put together at Max's place. Sure, there was other stuff too, but those two items were the main needed at a birthday party. Ruby went to grab some present box from under her bed and place it on the coffee table in the living room, moving the cake there too and mentally checking if there was anything she forgot about. The video camera! Of course. The woman ran back in her room, grabbing that technology piece in its original casing. The event would be video tapped, and there will be lots of pictures taken, if Madden liked it or not. Red also hoped that Pierce wouldnt be late to come pick her up, so they could arrive together (since driving herself didnt seem too..good for the cake's wellbeing, the presents' and also the mercenary's own) at their cop's place. She would need his help to pick all the stuff up anyway, it sounded unrealistic to think that she could leave the camera's bag and her own purse hand on one arm, and hold the cake's box in both hands. Where would she even hold the treats Andrea, Jacob and her had worked so much on making? Pierce was the precious piece in this puzzle, for more than one reason. Ruby Red Blackwood | The woman's senses got drowned in disappointment when the flushed face of the "masked mercenary" turned out to be out of her vision. Dammit! She couldnt even enjoy a small victory? Making Jacob blush seemed like a great achievement, in all honesty. They were both criminals, killers, raised in a world full of fake emotions and hidden intentions, so concealing their feelings and moods was no longer a luxury- but a daily routine. Though, why would Jacob need masks if he was able to do such thing? It might be his weakness, to have to offer his emotions on a platter, but certainly it was not a weakness around Ruby.
"Pff, cant make me." An amused chuckle came as a reply, and Ruby refused to let go of the 'sweetcheeks' , figuratively speaking. This was so juvenile, but Red couldnt stop thinking how golden this whole moment was. She would rat him out to Max eventually, for blushing for no reason. Or was there actually a reason..? Yes there was, that information alone made the woman feel like she had won something.
Ruby let him offer himself moral support, or what seemed more like some pep talk. His reaction at her whole playing was hilarious, and satisfying if she was to be honest. But that wont put an end to the blonde exploiting his current embarrassment. "Denial is the first step, honey." Her suave voice reasurred him, coming from behind while she followed him out of the room. Red hoped to give him chills with that, but wasnt totally sure where she was going with this whole game. Focus. But focus on what? The target was not around, as they had realised when entering the empty room.
"Does it look like he's here alone?" Ruby questioned with a quick glance, while her eyes adjusted to the different (lack of) light. A coat on a hanger, light luggage, the place looked a bit like Max's apartment, when on the verge of looking like after a hurricane passed through. The hotel room was still more arranged, and lacked the chinese takeout boxes.
So they couldnt really do much about the darkness, they didnt have this room's power card and judging by the time, the moon wouldnt provide god knows what amount of light. It was obviously enough to see stuff, if you were near the window as Jacob, but only there. Blackwood pushed the door slowly, closing it and making sure it could be opened (or the lock could be picked) from the inside too, so they wont get stuck here. An opened door raised suspicions in a hotel. Then, with even less light (the illuminated hall no longer helped them) she walked further into the room, trying to figure out what could be pushed on top of the target. The coat hanger sounded like a cartoon show's option. Same for the standard painting on the wall. "Found anything?" The woman questioned, picking up her dress with a hand to turn around and walk towards Jacob, without stepping on it and stumbling. He was looking at the window, but instantly Ruby thought that wouldnt be a valid option. Anyone would figure out White was pushed, and they didnt even have to be great detectives. "Fucking dark" It was, and it annoyed the blonde that she couldnt see the carpet' dunes. She stumbled for a second, her free hand instinctively going for something to hold onto (in her case, Jacob's shoulder) . Then she let go of the end of her dress and rested that palm on the dresser next to them both. Since her momentum was ruined, she leaned against the man a bit too quickly or harshly. Typical stumbling outcomes, bad timing. "Shit. It's all your fault." No it wasnt, and her voice didnt need to be playful as a tonality for him to understand that either.

Ruby Red Blackwood | Innuendos were everywhere, in each sentence and each glare, when you were talking to Ruby. At first, she didn't "do" innuendos, but sometime after coming to Chicago, that kind of changed. Maybe it was Enigma's entourage that made her more..outgoing, flirty even. But she was still the same on the inside, still retreated, still a freak. And she wouldn't want to change.
"I'm glad you realised this game can be played by two." She chuckled at his response, thinking of Jacob with a 'Daddy' reputation, with younger women walking at his sides and getting named baby girls, it was...disturbing. Sounded more Bianchi like that needed, and the mercenary's association with that gang really didn't help Red want to barf less. But luckily she was definitely not into that.
That's obviously a bed, Captain Obvious. Ruby gave him a tilt of her head and a bored expression, much like asking him "really??" . You'd have to be stupid to think she was refering to something else in the room, perhaps the painting on the wall. "No shit, sweetcheeks." Red blinked at that, and redirected her gaze to the bed, obviously scolding him for being a smartass with the pet-name he loved so much. Besides, he couldnt call her funny stuff if he wanted to stay reputation-clean.
The blonde walked to the window, pulling the curtains to cover every inch of the glass, as they didn't need anyone to act sniper, not on their behalf. There was a cold light coming from the ceiling lamps, activated automatically, if you put the card hanging from the key into the plastic socket on the wall. It probably powered the cooler too. "I'd be more worried about what we're going to sleep in, that me doing funny stuff in the bed." She said when coming closer again, with a blank expression, but her eyes and the way her head cocked to the side when speaking were very much suggestive. Plus, she gave him a teasing wink. He had no idea she's got that problem covered too, so teasing was at its finest. Was that a..blush, or more like, the beginning of a blush, on the mercenary's face? Blackwood wasnt sure, but she was quick to point it out. "Get your mind out of the gutter, Birdy. Your sweetcheeks are flushed." No more smirking at that point, only a seductive tone in her voice, a moment of eye contact (if he allowed it) and a devious chuckle following. Only then, the smirk. Ruby didnt realise how much she mised having someone to toy with like that, until now.
As they agreed on visiting the target's room, the two made their way to the next level of the building, searching for the right combination of numbers on each door. Ruby watched as some maid passed by, and then looked back at Jacob. "Sure thing." She nodded, moving her hand to her hair and taking out a bobbypin that was just put there for this kind of moments, picking locks. In a moment, the door opened quietly, and the darkness inside of the room let the two know that the target was not inside. For now. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |

Ruby Red Blackwood @tavi | She wasn't going to be nice or too friendly, the guy would be crazy to think so. Ruby wanted to finish this diversion task before she froze to death, and quite honestly she wanted it to be a success too. And on top of that, you didn't spell Blackwood by spelling kindness. Just do an effort, don't let the cold make you grumpy. The woman suggested to herself, and ignored it too. If he wanted to earn Enigma's trust, he won't do it by expecting royal treatment. Those were the Bianchi after all.
"The cold is fine, it's the wind that bothers me." That and the two shades of blue in front of her eyes, but that was besides the point. Her words were wrapped into a thick accent, Israeli, that would hopefully fade soon. Now, they weren't here to discuss the weather.
"Inside? Here's fine, we can be on the look out if the guy's here early." The blonde raised a hand from her pocket (empty yet the fist clenched) and inspected the watch at her wrist, noting it was 2 PM. The target was supposed to drop by at around 2:30 , as it's routine indicated and as Enigma provided the information. So the two had 30 minutes to settle on a plan, more or less. She placed her fist back into her pocket and looked up at Smoke. "We got thirty minutes to get this sorted. So, how does a heart attack sound to you? Or maybe a couple's loud fight?" They just had to grab everyone's attention, while the third member did their own job. Nothing too fancy needed, but nothing unbelievable or stupid either.
No one was paying them attention for now, so they could be planning here in the open. Usual civilians were not nosey. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |

Ruby Red Blackwood @tavi | So this was how Ryan planned on doing things? Sending her out on the field (though in all honesty, the task was not a big deal) with some Enigma newbie riding her coattails and risking to jeopardize a simple mission just to test this new guy? But if Ryan thought it was alright, it must be..
Ruby personally loved testing people. Testing their nerves, limits, trying to make them snap or act against their will- it was all fun when the person you evaluated was the opponent. Now, with your 'partner' somewhat wishing to be part of Enigma, and also probably build himself some respect, it was more complicated. Complicated, as in, she couldn't break him. She was not really allowed to. The mafia was her family, and not only Ryan stated that a family should trust each other and behave around any other members. Maybe it was just Blackwood wanting to keep an eye on the guy from a distance, without interfering at the moment, like a cat creeping on people from her own corner, ready to unsheat the claws if the target in sight was being a prickle.
Not the case. She kept telling herself, building up more 'friendliness' than the basic defensive state, when meeting someone new. And after all, the woman was great at putting up a whole new facade.
The sun was up and not doing its single purpose anymore. It was cold as crap, as soon as you stepped outside, your nose froze. And on top of that, the meeting point was the beach, where the breeze basically cut through your skin with its low temperature. Thanks Ry.
It didn't take Ruby long to arrive, her black boots stepping onto the cold sand. She had this feeling, that the day was going to be crappy. Mostly because she had full sight of that large amount of water... The partner, Ruby. The blonde mentally scolded herself for letting suck small fear install in her bones, and turned her head, searching for the so called 'Smoke' guy.
Soon, her metal gaze rested upon a man's frame, who looked quite out of place. Red walked towards him at a normal peace, with her hands tucked in her coat's pockets. She had a small pocket knife in one, while the other only sheltered her phone. Ryan could give tasks or updates on their jobs through the cell phone, and one of the Israeli's rules forced her to have a knife in her possession 100% of the time.
"The weather sucks." Were the words to greet Smoke. Now, onto the distraction planning.. ♥ Painting white roses red; Each shade from A different person's head. |
