Everything about this meeting put her out of her comfort zone. Lana didn’t like asking people for anything - not because she didn’t want to inconvenience them. Rather, she just didn’t trust anyone to follow through. She learned to be self-reliant from a very young age. That isn’t to say that she turned out for the better because of it. Self reliance also meant she self medicated, avoided her problems, and was antagonistic to most. Being part of Enigma obligated her to at least try and play nice with others. Many were powerful people - shadowed but powerful. She’d heard tales of Ruby Blackwood. Reliable and covert, she was the kind of woman Lana needed. Need. Lana hated needing anyone. But she had questions that demanded answers. Well, really it was just one question: Who is responsible for the death of my sister? She would burn all the Bianchi family in a barn if she could, including those overseas. The entire family could rot and Lana would dance on their graves. However, she had to keep herself grounded in reality. While she blamed the entire family for the death of her sister, Lana wasn’t a king who could mount the heads of her enemies on a spike outside her castle.[break][break]
Lana was biting her lower lip and thumbing the lid of her coffee cup. It was too hot to drink. Steam rolled off and wafted the scent to her nose. She liked a lot of cream in her coffee - enough cream and she could forego the sugar. Lana kept envisioning the note she left for Ruby at Neo. It was all rather grade school, but Lana didn’t want to leave an electronic trail. She wrote a letter by hand and sealed it in an envelop with Ruby’s name sprawled on the front. She didn’t have the best handwriting. Whenever a customer ordered a handwritten note with their flowers, Lana always had to get one of her employees to write it. Otherwise, the notes of love and devotion - sometimes begging for forgiveness - would be jagged and angular. The note included her name and affiliation, but Lana kept it vague in case anyone who wasn't Ruby opened it. She wrote that she needed Ruby's help, but she didn't specify. She also said she would be at the coffee shop on Emmett's St at 6am everyday for the next week. Today was day three and Lana was wondering if Ruby got the note. Should I have picked a different spot? Was it silly of me to pick 6am? Was it stupid to use a note to communicate? Ugh![break][break]
Lana looked at her watch. She had another half hour before she needed to make her way to the flower shop. Joseph was kind enough to cover the 5am shift for her for a couple days. She liked him because he didn't ask any questions and she got to pay him under the table. Not exactly legal, but neither was laundering money...
