"Madden, out!" how the day ends is usually the same. Today felt special, ish. He had passed the day giving fingers at his colleagues who were talking about the case with Shaun Bianchi. Of course they all knew about it, this PD was a real chicken hen. They didn't know all the story, just that the cop had been beat up by the young Bianchi. It was a while since that happened, but they were still making fun of it. It used to be discrete and Madden could simply ignore them, but today he decided to be a little less forgiving and at least make them know he was hearing them. So finger to you, finger to you, and finger to you as well every time he heard the incident being mentioned. It was only a matter of time before people thought that was funny as well and Max ended up throwing his keyboard at Timmy. So yes, now his superior was literally kicking him out for the day. At least he had made his point clear by seeing the faces of everyone as well as the silence which came back after. So there he was, his day finished with nothing to do.

He could have gone home, but that would mean getting bored pretty quickly. He could have gone to a park, in a bar, anywhere really. But he wanted to do something with someone, to just not be alone with his thoughts. He walked in the streets, thinking when a cat suddenly ran passed him, crossing the street and missing to be hit by a car. The man jumped, swore in french but quickly regained composure as the cat left. Why were those creatures so daring? Always rebelling against society and it's laws. Much like Ruby really. It was funny to think of her as a cat and simply compare everything she shared with them. She liked to annoy him and after he was given the title of dog it was only more logical. Maybe he could stop by her place and annoy her instead for once? He had been in constant need to make sure she was alright after what happened with the Bianchi, and after helping her move into her new apartment, he didn't feel any problem in just hanging out with her and Jacob. So this is what he will do. Go to see her and pretend he was just making sure she was doing okay in her new place when really he wanted to have fun playing detectives with her.

It took him some time to get to the place by foot, taking the stairs instead of the elevator. He took his time to get there, gathering his breath to not look like an idiot who just ran a marathon and knocked on the door. "Ruby? Guess who just got fired!" he didn't get fired, but he believed it would be an interesting way to get her to open the door faster. If she wasn't there then he could always go bother bunny, but he had been bothering him so much lately he was fearing to get retaliation sooner than later. His tone was already playful, so it was very probable that his lie wouldn't be believed.

You know that moment when you have something, so you cant appreciate its true value? That was how Ruby felt right now, alone in her apartment. Usually at the warehouse, as soon as the people got up, you could hear them roam around the place doing god knows what but here it was all silent. If you didnt count the TV that was sometimes turned on, or the small radio planted either in the kitchen or in the living room, the apartment was rather quiet. But the silence was beautiful. Beautiful as the natural light that always came into the blonde's room in the morning and during the afternoon, or the little birds that always seemed to come near the window in the kitchen and cirp there for a while. At least now she could afford to sleep in all she wanted. 11 AM? No missions meant sleeping till 1 PM. But Red eventually got sick of that routine, and went back to waking up at 5AM and heading off whenever. Today was not much of a difference, except that after making herself some french fries and an omlette (which she did not finish) there was a sudden knock on her door. Knocking? Who, actually why was anyone knocking? If this was that kid from the opposite loft testing his new "technique of knocking" again...
Blackwood took another fry with the fork, wiping her hands on a napkin quickly before heading to the door. Two of the locks on the inside were unlocked already, and so when the man behind the door talked, Red smiled out of the sudden. So this was Max, and he got fired. Could this day get any better? She opened the door, a raised brow and the other lowered at the presumed ex cop. "Fired? Geez, where did I put the wine?" The woman replied jokingly, chuckling at the news. Either Max hated being in the PD, or was lying, since he was way too happy in that moment. He seemed so, at least. And less detectives to take care of cases, more murders! Ruby stepped away to let the man come in, folding her arms as if expecting further explanations. "Why did it take them so long to fire you?" And she was smirking, truly amused by this event. She would have hugged him, if only Madden didnt seem so suspiciously okay with being fired.

As suspected he didn't have to wait very long for Ruby to open the door. And it also seemed she believed in his lie. Or maybe she was playing along, it was always hard to know with Miss Red. He rose a brow, an unimpressed look on his face as she questioned why the PD took so long to fire him. "Really? I'm that bad? I still solve cases you know. Just not 'that' one." he stepped inside the house, the smell of a brand new place still filling the air. "Also, we open champagne to celebrate, not wine." he smirked and pointed a finger at her. French drink wine every night, it was too bland for celebrations. He looked around the place, trying to spot what changed since his last visit. Still a really classy place. You could feel like you could breath here with all the light coming in from the windows, not like at his place where the only windows in the entire place were in his room and one in the kitchen.
He let go of his winning face to pout his lips. "I'm not fired yet. I'm still technically supposed to cuff you and drag you to court. They just kicked me out for the day because I threw a keyboard at a 'rude' colleague." It had been fun to see Timmy's eyes widen as he realized the keyboard was for him. Not fast enough to avoid it and Max has been perfecting the skill for quite some time now. There was no escaping the keyboard thrower. So now he believed Ruby will ask why he came here, and quite frankly he was still unable to know what he should answer. He couldn't answer that a cat scared him in the streets and made him want to visit her and see how much she had in common with those creatures. Spending some time with her to kill the time was a more reasonable answer, and it wasn't a lie either. Just not the full truth.
"So what have you been doing? Slept in until now?" he asked, looking around to try to see what she could have possibly been doing. From the looks of the kitchen, she was eating breakfast. Or lunch? Eggs sounded like a morning meal, but french fries? Well this was confusing. He walked to her kitchen and sat on the counter, picking one of the fries, not exactly worried about invading Ruby's personal space. She did that all the time, why not let him have fun for this time? Let the dog invade and the cat be the victim. "It's already much more interesting for me to be here. You can't even imagine how boring it was at work. Besides the keyboard at Timmy's face..." he was smiling, feeling too good right now to think about the reason he threw a keyboard in the first place. Ruby looked good, and after the incident with Shaun, it was a beautiful sight.

Truth be told, Max wasnt a bad cop, not at all. But he had this wild tendency to get his ass in trouble too often, and to complicate things instead of solving them. Even if he was taking a longer road to a case's end, he was still getting there. "Let me guess, the case of..the missing noodle?" Ruby raised a hand to her golden hair, rotating the end of a curl on her index finger as she mocked him with a fairly innocent smirk. There was nothing innocent about her though. Her voice also betrayed the whole playfullyness. "Champagne, got it." With the same hand as before, she snapped her fingers as if making a mental note on that, with a wink directed at Max. Oh, he sure didnt get fired. No surprise when he stated the obvious, so far Max seemed to enjoy being a cop so much, Ruby expected him to cry his heart out of he got fired, or at least punch some walls. And since he was doing none, it was only logical. "Yet. And to think I was going to offer you a hug to show empathy.." Shrugging, the woman then chuckled, she just couldnt imagine being dragged to the court. "Oh yes, the court part would be difficult." Red said, holding back another chuckle. Teasing and mocking Max was the best thing ever. Better than slaughtering people, better than planting evidence and defititely better than getting bored in her own apartment. The last thing was something they both shared, by the looks of it. Blackwood wanted to scold him for attempting to hurt a colleague, but it was too funny to do so. The unknown prick probably deserved it, even if Madden's definition of 'rude' adjusted accordingly to who the victim was. She could only shake her head with a smle at that.
As the French moved deeper into her apartment, Ruby shut the door closed and followed him suspiciously, tucking her hands in her pockets. "I've been..just chilling around, yes?" With a curious squint of her eyes, Ruby watched the man's hand pick up a fry from her plate. "Hungry?" With a hand, Red ponted at Max's sudden desire to steal her food, and kicked a chair with her foot, closer to where Max was standing, leaning herself against the table. "I suppose there is another reason on why you came here, besides..I dont know, taking a break from Chinese takeouts?" He didnt mention the reason of his visit yet, and it was..suspicious, questionable. He really liked to torture that Timmy guys though. "Poor Timmy.." She didnt even know him, but from that smile on the French's face, Timmy wasnt safe and sound.

He rolled his eyes, her sentences only aimed to strike annoyance in him. Teasing was her and Jacob's biggest amusement when he was around. Today didn't look like it would be any different. Her sentences amused him more than they annoyed him truly for now. He had been fed up with his colleagues all morning, it will be a little harder to get Max fed up now with things he actually deeply enjoyed. When Ruby and Jacob teased him, it felt more like they cared and showed attention to him than they truly wanted to hurt him. The snapping of Ruby's fingers and the wink about the Champagne told the cop he could expect the french drink next time they have something to celebrate.
He smiled, sitting on the counter and letting his legs move in a relaxed way as Ruby came closer, talking about how he could have gotten a hug for getting fired. So no hugs for him? Too bad she wasn't the one engaging then. As she got closer with a chair he took the opportunity to raise his legs, quickly wrapping them around her hips and dragging her closer to the counter. Provocation was never a good idea when you were around Max, but it was usually hard to tell when what you said or did could be taken like so. "No hugs if I don't get fired then. Alright." he said, sarcasm tainting his tone. He tested his first theory, wrapping his hands around her and just letting them on her stomach, letting his head rest on her shoulder. He wasn't latching on, just chilling with his legs hanging on either side of her, his back relaxed. He wondered if Ruby would dare kick him out of her house as well for being too intrusive.
Had Ruby really just been chilling? Her tone sounded a little hesitating on the edges, but if Max started to be suspicious then he would go on a rampage inside her house and make a mess to find anything that could incriminate her of anything. Now that she mentioned food, Max tried to think if he was really hungry. And his answer was "Not really." he shook his shoulders, rubbing Ruby's stomach before backing away, letting her go. "You are though. Since you obviously made food and it's still hot....I shouldn't have taken that fry, it could have been an experiment of yours to kill someone at Mcdonalds." He smiled with his lips pinched before answering her next question. "Do I really need another reason to visit a friend? I mean evil maniac queen of death and destruction." there was no way he could tell her he was actually making a small experiment for fun. His little game will and must remain a secret. "And please don't pity Timmy. He's been deserving that keyboard to the face for a long time." the brat was lucky Max didn't throw the whole computer at him. That would have been a murder.

Madden was right about one thing; all the teasing, bickering and mocking that ever came from the two criminals, aimed at the cop, was their only form of showing affection. Like a wrinkled piece of paper, with a love poem on it. It was there in essence, the intention was good, but its appearance, its exterior needed some ironing. Such sociopaths could never understand love as it was, explaining the concept to them would be pointless. But Max somehow managed to plant those small, dehydrated seeds in the empty spot in their ribcage, where a heart was planned to grow. A heart that would lack its beating if the one seeding the love ceased to exist. She offered him a chair so he would be able to sit down and enjoy the food, given that he appeared to want it, but it turned out he had other plans. Ruby tensed up as his legs closed around her hips, giving her the feeling of being trapped. He didnt sound too bothered by his actions, and certainly did not appear to make too much effort in stepping on unknown territories. "Max, what are you doing?" Did he not understand how she said "no hugs"? What kind of embrace was this anyway? Red turned her head to the side, searching for any clue on what his actions were, by moving her glare towards his face. She felt a small shiver down her spine when the man had placed his chin on her shoulder but didnt flinch as she started to get curious. Curious, on why he was really here and doing this weird stuff.
Him rubbing her stomach was very questionable. Blackwood slid her hands from his elbows' crooks to his hands, trying to either stop the petting or move his palms away from her belly. " Are you sure you're...okay?" Suspicious about this strange behaviour of his, Ruby frowned worried, sighing a bit relieved when the French let go of her. "Really flattering, but since when are we friends?" Whatever was in that fry, it was affecting Max, deeply. And the question on their friendship was a result of being prickled by curiosity. Would the cop still think of the two as enemies, or frienemies? The three had bonded more than well, but you could never be too sure in this enviroment. One could not afford trusting its own reflexion in the mirror, though somehow Ruby placed enough trust in those two than she should have. Now free of his hug, Ruby took a step away from him, pondering on either trying to dig up further information, or playing her own game. A game that wouldnt end too soon.
Who Timmy was didnt really concern Ruby, probably some annoying coworker by the looks of it. "So let me get this straight. You got pissed off at work, calmed down a bit and now came here to relax some more, or am I missing a point? Do you want me to order you some noodles?" Blondie said, folding her arms again and leaning against the table, facing Max. As much as it didnt feel completely right to allow him to be here, Ruby didnt want to ruin his day even more. Throwing a keyboard at someone meant a lot of anger, hopefully a relaxing evening would cheer Max up? Too bad she didnt know about his plans.
Keeping her soft side burried was a must, when around mafia members, or when out of her own shell. But in her apartment, no spy cameras could be sneaked, so there was no need to put up a whole new set of walls just for fun. Ruby could be a nice person, reliable and caring, but only for those who deserved it. Generally speaking, she was not going to label anyone she knew either in the 'bad' or the 'good' group. The latters was kinda empty anyway, if she wouldnt have to count Andrea and a few Enigma people. Maybe those two, Max and Jacob could fit there too?

It was always fun to see Ruby lose a bit of her confidence when she was shown affection. Did she not understand its principles? Or was she used to cold orders and very few acts of affection? Max couldn't think that Oliver wasn't actually a good man with a gold heart beneath the thug's skin. It would be interesting to see how much that thought was true. So what was he doing now? Giving Ruby what he believed she didn't often have. Dogs know when their masters feel down. It wasn't the case today, but he knew that somewhere under that tough skin, lay the memories of persecution and gun shells. Since he wasn't a doctor, he could only use those simple gestures to show he was there and not simply sit in a corner like a ghost. Would it be funny if he told her he was doing this to test if she would push him away like a cat? So far she left him do, putting her hands on his to make him stop the rubbing. He did and removed his hands. "Do I really need to answer that? I feel like some things just don't need an explanation." he smiled sheepishly, trying to seem innocent while his game went on.
Since when were they friends? He felt a little disappointed by her words but could understand where her question came from. They hadn't known each other for a very long time and the first time they met she was brought in for interrogation at the PD. She strangled him, threatened him, kissed him...He shook his shoulders before the memory of the night with the Bianchi came to his mind. He wasn't mad at her anymore for condemning him to becoming a mole inside the PD for the Bianchi. But it wasn't a mole to destroy the PD, it was a mole to destroy Enigma. He felt bad for what Ruby called her family, but the PD had a hard time finding things about Enigma anyway. "I don't know. Does it matter? I mean you aren't trying to kill me and I am not trying to cuff you and throw you in a car to head to the Chicago prison. I'll stay your enemy if you feel more comfortable with that." he smirked, putting his hands between his legs on the counter and leaned slightly forward, watching Ruby like a curious beast. He was making her uncomfortable with his actions, he could tell that much. But it was funny, fascinating to see her lose balance every once in a while on her tall legs of supremacy. "Can you blame me for wanting to spend some time with someone I feel comfortable around? I could have gone to see Jacob but he never gave me his address and who knows if he would want to see me today." he gave another sheepish smile.
"I'm not hungry I swear. I picked at those fries because I was curious to see how well you cooked...I'm not dead yet. Do you not get the concept of hanging out?" he asked, picking another fry and quickly stuffing it in his mouth. American food, why must you become a guilty pleasure? He jumped off from the counter. "So how are you feeling in your new home? Not too lonely when you wake up and Oliver isn't complaining about something? Did you even have an annoying roommate at the place?"

any things were better off unexplained, he was right about that. A warm smile, a piece of advice in a critical moment, any small but significant caring gesture worked by that rule. Secret missions were also based on that, but it was probably not the case right now, and nor was with the affection stuff. Was Max 100% sure he had no drinks at the PD? Ruby couldnt smell any alcohol coming from him, so he was definitely sober. But her mind worked by making connections, and so far this hug thing Madden gave her did not tie up with anything she could think of. It was a calm embrace, but its meaning did not raise to the level of the hug in the aquarium night and surely it wasnt like that time the French tried to keep her out of having a panic attack after being shot. It was a..domestic feeling that surrounded them. A bit of a deja vu, and it was not the first time her mind associated a situation with something that had already happened. Ruby has had these strange episodes of deja vu for the past weeks now, it honestly felt like she was replaying a month of her life or something. But if only it would have been so easy.. Blackwood swallowed, tilting her head as Max adjusted his position. First he came in joking that he got fired, now he threw the ball on "visiting a friend". How many more reasons will he find in his try of keeping the true one a secret? No, he did not need something to have happened just to drop by, or show affection. It was just the woman not being used to it. But time fixed everything. He had the smile of a sheep but his wolf clothing was not in his advantage. " Alright then. But just if you feel like you've got a fever, or anything hurts, let me know so I can look for some medicine." There was some sarcasm in her words, but Ruby was mostly just having a normal, friendly conversation with him.
They were not friends. They were more than that, saving each other's lives, relying on the other when they needed it, they were allies in this mad world. Close friends, even if they knew little to nothing about the other's roots and stuff. But that's why they needed to hang out, to get to know more about themselves. "I dont want you as my enemy, Max. I could never label you like that, and dump you in the same cauldron as the Bianchis." With a little hesitation, Ruby spoke, unsure if lowering another wall would be a good thing or not. The plate next to Madden on the counter was forgotten, and Red's attention moved on this new predator, watching her moves and testing her reactions. She mimicked his position, raising herself on the table too and gluing her hands on the wooden surface, between her legs that balanced slowly. She gave him a small, playful squint, searching to inspect his following movements or make eye contact. "Oh, I could never blame you, since your company is quite enjoyable." With a smirk to defend herself from his innocent smiles, Red listened to him talk. She didnt care about the food anymore, for sure. Max was much more entertaining. "I will take that as a compliment, thank you." She nodded with a chuckle " I know what hanging out means, but you're kinda..undecided on what you're here for, from what I can see. Blackwood raosed a questioning, curious brow, and placed her hands at her sides, crossing her legs when he hopped off the counter. The new home was great, there wasnt much interacting in the warehouse anyway. "It's very..quiet, pleasant. Oliver was always in his office anyway. Fortunately I didnt have a roommate. You know by now that I'm the reserved type, for sure."

Ruby was so intent in believing he was sick the cop could only smile more. His thoughts stroke true on the matter of the amount of affection the woman had received. It added a few points to him believing this was not such a bad idea. He couldn't feel guilty for invading her house today to fulfill a game of his own. In a way he was also fulfilling his own needs for care and attention by giving it to others. It was hard to feel close to anyone when you kept moving from city to city every year and that all those who could get you were thugs and criminals. No one needed to know that, even Max wasn't completely aware of that detail. It mattered not, for he was glad to give without return. When you hug a cat but it wants to run away until eventually it calms down in your arms, giving in to your stupid human need for affection. Max wasn't sick and neither was Ruby.
I could never drop you in the cauldron as the Bianchi. Sounding like a witch already? Besides that being one of the thoughts coursing the cop's mind after she finished speaking, he felt rather grateful for her words. He nodded in a silent thankful way. It was always, everyday, nice to know you hadn't been thrown into the same bag as the Bianchi. He wondered if Ruby fetched Jacob out of the cauldron after that night with the tiger. He was a good man and didn't deserve the Bianchi label even though he was supposed to work for them. Max could feel a part of him collapsing as he remembered how he was currently betraying his own 'family'. Calling the PD his family didn't feel right after today. Andrea was the only person in there he could think of giving the title family. But then Max thought for a second: You don't always love everyone in your family. The living proof of that would be Stone. He admired the man for being who he was and would never want to change the PD's leader for anyone else. Like a father for the police, directing them with an iron fist to work and succeed in protecting the city. Max hid that course of thought behind a smile, not wishing to let it ruin the moment. "Thanks for not putting me in the tiger bucket." his tone of voice betrayed none of his collapsed mind. Was Max a good liar? He had no idea, but at least he could conceal a few things.
Now the cat was mimicking him. That brought a sweet chuckle out of him as he leaned against the counter, crossing his arms as he looked at her, accepting the eye contact she seemed to seek. She had always been the predator and him the prey. The only moment he could think of where the tables had turned was at the aquarium. He still felt bad for that too. Maybe he didn't like being the predator, maybe being the prey and running away was more fun. The sensation of power comes with a price. How much did Shaun pay for power that night? Still concerned about his reason to be here. Yup, he wouldn't tell her, it would ruin the fun for him and give her control to mess him up again. She could probably do that very easily by the way. Max hoped to finish this day by leaving her still puzzled on the reason of his visit. One more mystery left unanswered seemed to be the best choice here.
As she mentioned that she was the 'reserved type', Max faked himself choking. He cleared his throat and brought a hand to his heart. "Excuse me what_ what did you just say?" he had a large disbelieved smile on his face. "Did you just say you were reserved?" he picked up a fry and threw it at her, wondering if she would catch it. "Liar. I'd like to see you share a room with Jacob and see how reserved you get. Because Jacob is reserved. Not you." he chuckled, still in disbelief that she even thoughts of calling herself a reserved person. "Well, not in a room with Jacob, more like you two having a competition on who is the most reserved..." he added that sentence after realizing how room sounded in the sentence's context.

It was not often that she had guests, it was actually rare considering that Enigma members just werent the type to drop by for a cup of tea and biscuits, or come to hang out, as Max called this act. The woman was not complaining either, of being gifted such friends in a city, a world like this. Madden and Pierce were the ones she could truly lean on if trouble arised, they had her back and she had their own, unconditionally trusting each other with their lives. It was a bit selfish of her to even attempt to question their friendship, even just as a joke, but Max seemed to actually be thankful that it was all clarified. No harm done. Care, attention, emotion and affection- everybody needed that. No matter the quantities, one could go insane without those factors. Being on your own could be sickening, but if you were raised like that or if you adapted to it, there were less negative outcomes. On the bright side, no one's life depended on you, and yours was in your own hands; getting manipulated or blackmailed was much more difficult when there was no one you put in danger; death itself didnt seem like a big deal. Madden on the other hand, had proved that he feared to be left alone. Knowing there would be no one to remember him seemed to be his biggest nightmare. Why run from such lux? Ruby couldnt fully understand it yet.
"Did you really think I would put you on the same side as my enemies?" The woman furrowed her brown confused, a glimpse of sadness or maybe a disappointed one in her glare, pointed at the cop. No matter what happened, or would happen between them, there was no way Ruby would turn her back on Max, or redirect her strong loyalty. Only her friends deserved it, her being loyal to them, the Bianchis were not them. Jacob didnt appear as a Bianchi in her vision either, he had a tag hanging from his neck with the word "friend" on it. "You're not quite my best friend, but you are not an ordinary buddy either." Words, labels, were all so complicated. Red wasnt even sure how far on the frienship scale Max sat, probably somewhere between Oliver and Andrea, side by side with Jacob.
Telling him some small truths couldnt hurt, and that was mostly why Ruby decided to slowly open up in front of him, or at least throw a rope over her walls for him to catch. His game went unnoticed after he touched such personal topics, mostly because she trusted him not to do anything stupid. His words brought a chuckle to the Israeli, and as the fry flew towards her, Blackwood caught it between her fingers, and bit half of it. "I am reserved, when around strangers, or when I'm in a crowd. It's just you two idiots make me feel comfortable enough. You make me feel myself enough to get out of my bubble." Sharing a room with Jacob, as Madden put it, rand kinky to her ears though. "Max please, I just ate, remember?" With a mocking disgusted face, Ruby shook her head once and ate the remaining half of the fry, pushing herself off the table. If he wanted to follow her to the living room, so be it. "So how's the PD doing? Still struggling on unsolved cases, making up rumors, or what?" Addressing him from the doorway of the living, the blonde then leaned against the frame and folded her arms while smiling.

That hint of sadness in her eyes as she assured him he wasn't being put in the enemy bucket participated in him believing her words. He wished that their situation wasn't so complicated. He wished that he wasn't a cop and her not a criminal. That like cats and dogs they weren't bound to run after each other. Of course when he had her here next to him he could make sure she wasn't killing someone at the other end of the city. Same went for Jacob. How many people were falling from his hand right now as they spoke? Max could feel himself tense at that thought, his heart speeding slightly at the sensation of panic and time flying by that he couldn't catch. There was no use in freaking out this way. The only thing he could do about it would be to lock Jacob up. But he couldn't bring himself to do such a thing today. Maybe he can find a way to calm Jacob's murdering habit. It sounded pretty impossible, but there must be a way, just like there are ways to calm a wild tiger down, without killing it or putting it in a cage.
"Oh I know your best friend is Andrea. I know I'll never join the blond club even if I wanted to. By the way, why do all my friends have curly hair? I think it proves you are all crazy and not me." he only noticed that now. Jacob, Ruby, Andrea, they all had curls, but Max didn't. And he had seen his hair long enough to see if they could curl and Spoilers: They don't. Well, hairstyle was irrelevant, but it was funny to point it out. "What did you even tell poor Goldilocks about me? Did you even dare say anything." he rose a brow, curiosity sparking in his eyes. They were best friends, and that usually means that you share all of your secrets with said person. However since Andrea and Ruby weren't quite on the same life level maybe the blonds didn't share 'everything'.
Why did she always find the kinky sounds in his sentences? How does one manage to do this? Surely, Ruby and Jacob in one room together wouldn't end well with blood on the pillows and someone murdered under the bed. "Great, so your true self loves to find innuendos and choke kiss people. Awesome, can't wait to find out what else the real Ruby does." he pushed himself away from the counter, raising his hands to his sides, jazz hands style. He followed her until she stopped in the doorway's frame, leaning against it in a rather elegant way. Max stopped and squint at her question about the PD. "Well they do still work on minor things. But they also like to make rumors on a blond who likes to pet a dog a lot. And of course you know how the phone game works. One thing goes in, something else comes out? Turns out some people think the blond is Andrea. I let that slide to avoid accidents like today where someone gets a keyboard to the face." he poked her stomach a few times with his fingers to make her move away from the doorway so they could both retreat to the living room.

He probably couldnt join the blonde club because he was not a blonde, nor a woman, it had nothing to do with his personality or the level of their closeness. If Ruby was to be honest, Max was the closest thing to a male bestfriend she had ever had. But saying, or even thinking that would mean to friendzone him, or Jacob, and she was not going to do such thing. It was a stupid idea, because that would mean that she had to think further and elaborate new titles for their relations. All that mattered was that they both were on the positive metter. "How do you know about Andrea and I anyway? Did she tell any "funny stories"...?" The woman lowered a brow, trying to read in the man's eyes if he was hidding something. So skeptical, curious but a bit worried on what her bestfriend could have said. Imagine the horror! What if Keller told Max any embarrassing college stories? Ruby would never be able to make him stop laughing in her face, nor stop blushing like some angry tomato. " Choke kiss "people"? You're very wrong. I dont go around distributing strangle smootches, I keep them for the so called special snowflakes. It's how you know you've both pissed me off an__" Red abruptly stopped in her sudden urge to spill her guts to him, only to make Max understand her reasons, when she figured that she didnt need to open up to him. No one was forcing her to do so, and giving the French more leverage or something to laugh about was not in her schedule. But she was exagerating with that specia snowflake part. He really did piss her off, and Ruby couldnt find another way to snap then. " No, I'm just kidding dont worry. I just couldnt decide on either suffocating you with my hand or my lips." With a less joking tone, the blonde waved with her hand once, chuckling. He was right about having to find out about the real Ruby though. So far, not him, nor Jacob digged up the warm and soft Little Red. But that part was always panicking when the Bianchi and the cop were in trouble of any kind. Being worried off the charts, sometimes blaming herself (befrore trying to blame their stupidity) , it was not natural for her and she had no idea how to control it.
Now, those rumors were interesting. How did anyone from the PD know about that little affair (if it could be called that) anyway? It was obviously Max that had a big mouth, or went to work with little guilty marks exposed. His fault, so why was he angry for being the subject of gossip anyway? "Poor Andrea. Cant you lie about someone else? She doesnt deserve it." Blackwood laughed, unfolding her arms as the French began poking her stomach, trying to stop his hand from annoying her by slapping it away. Preferably without breaking the eye cointact, to look less disturbed by his actions. The Israeli moved from the doorway, walking behind near the couch and sitting on one of the armrests just like she sat on the table before, curious on what Max was planning to do.

He smirked as the woman questioned what Andrea might have told him about the two. Of course he could not answer and ask her instead what these two blondies have been saying about him, but she would probably avoid the question as well. So instead he decided to go with the continuation of their teasing by answering "Maybe..." his smirk remained untouched as he spoke that single word, wondering if she would even be satisfied by that answer. Satisfied was probably not the right word, more like she would be willing to find out later. He knew about Andrea and her because the blond had talked about her. A friend who loves pizza, who's pretty and crazy, yeah that screamed Ruby Blackwood right there. Also the number labeled Ruby in Andrea's phone made it easy to find out. Wasn't it normal to steal your colleague's phone when you were bored to see what games they had?
Oh Ruby was on a roll today. The more time passed, the more Max didn't regret coming over. She seemed to be in a very good mood, imagine the horror if he caught her on a bad day. It would probably have ended badly for him. But right now, Ruby was just giving away bits of information he thought she would never admit. "You are starting to make me feel special. I'm sure bunny would be glad to hear you think he's special too. You also make me feel like we are exclusive...do I like that?" he said with a smile before frowning suspiciously. "You might want to learn how to choke someone to death, because in my book I don't think you can accomplish that with your lips. Seul la mort peut faire ça. And you are not death." (only death can do that) he had crossed his arms, his french accent coming out in a more clear way in his sentence after he spoke his native language. Maybe if he was nice enough with her today he wouldn't leave with any bite or choke marks. The cat scratches and bites, that much he knew.
Andrea was a good person, and quite honestly he wasn't even sure she knew about the rumors since Madden usually tried to crush them before they got to her. She didn't need to be disturbed in her work because of stupid teenage gossip that wasn't even true. "She'll be fine, don't you worry. I'm sure she'll laugh her ass off if she finds out. And if it turns out it doesn't make her laugh then I'll get a reason to go kick some asses." he won't let his colleagues bad mouth for too long, and he had plenty of office objects and furniture to throw if needed. Office war, Stone would probably kill him for starting one. Like a cat she slapped his hand away as he poked her stomach. One could argue that any human being would do the same, but it was more fun this way. The eye contact was unsettling, as if nothing could make the steel gaze lose its control. She sat on the couch's arm rest. Max came to sit next to her but on the couch's backrest. "Your neighbors look nice, I've met the couple from this level. And when I say met I mean that I waved my hand at them and they waved back." he decided to go into a mundane talk, to see how Ruby would react about that. Could she possibly get rid of those people if they became too nosy or made her believe they 'saw' something? That thought was a little frightening but Max's expression betrayed nothing of his thoughts.

"Maybe"?! What does that even mean? That look on his face made Ruby internally punch herself. How did he even manage to make her feel caught in the act like that, without actually telling her that he knew anything. The "maybe.." trick was older than the ancient Greeks, it was something one said when they didnt want to burn any bridges but also wanted to look like they had blackmail material. Max just enjoyed to toy with her like that. Ruby tilted her head to the side, looking away for a moment before looking back at him with a side grin and a joking frown. It was not funny when you were the target, the vulnerable one, huh? "Liar!" She chuckled, wanting to think that he knew nothing, rather than falling for that trick, and raised her hand towards him, attempting to give him a gentle push in his chest as some unspoken "bitch please". At this point, she was really clueless on why the man came over today, but quite honestly Ruby wasnt complaining. He was being his usual self, all relaxed, funny and mischevious. Pretty enjoyable, considering he was not here to accuse her of any murder she actually commited, or stuff like that. "Yes, I should probably tell Jacob that he's special too. I was planning to tell him on the 30th of February, in 2000-AintGonnaHappen. No, I dont want that to get to his head." Ruby laughed, shaking her head disapprovingly. Jacob being told he's special to someone, the next thing she knew was that the mercenary would stab her. Or worse. Exclusive, did he say? The blonde raised a brow curiously, the corners of her lips curling up. She was not 100% sure what he actually meant by that, and did not want to make any assumptions. "You dont like it. You love it. But please, explain to me how does 'being exclusive' make you feel, Max Madden?" Ruby used that oh-so-seductive tone in her voice when addressing that question, looking up at him with a pouty expression, half mocking him and the other half just really curious on how he would answer. Her hand was also brought up being folded in a fist with her index finger curled under her chin, in a thinking manner. On the other hand, the Israeli had no idea what he just said in French. Another sentence for her to Google Translate and note in her small agenda of leverage. "You'd be amazed how easy it is to kill one."
Andrea was a goofball, she sure knew how to make and take jokes, but a rumor of sleeping with someone..didnt really sound like it could cause one's laughter. If the PD eventually settled on that, Andrea would have lots to explain to get out of that shitty pit of a false word being spread around. Ruby felt bad for her bestfriend. "Yeah, or Andrea will kick your ass. I'm just warning you.." The woman raised her shoulders in a shrug, pinching her lips together in a guilty smile and putting her hands up in defense. Eventually if Max did nothing about that rumor, and it upset Andrea, Ruby would definitely do something. Be it by defending Andrea and lying about some other blonde, or by walking into the PD one morning with some coffee and a trip to Max's office, again to demolish any false accusations that could embarrass Keller. What were bestfriends for?
Neighbours? He..met..her what? Ruby stared at him suspiciously, narrowing her eyes and bitting on the interior of her cheek. "I didnt even know there was a couple living on this level.." Honestly, she did not put much on socialising with her neighbours. But this info might explain some latenight door knocking coming from the loft next to hers. Where are the soundproof walls when you need them? "Did they..pass by..or also asked you stuff? I mean how come you met my neighbours and I didnt?" Ruby placed her elbow on Madden's knee, holding her chin on top of the back of her palm and looking at him curiously.

She could call him liar all she wanted he wasn't going to talk further about what he and Andrea have been talking about. Which was not much to be honest. So he had nothing to say and Liar was probably very appropriate right now. But there was no reason that he should confirm that. Ruby didn't need to know he was lying, nobody ever needed to know how much he lied and how much it pleased him to successfully pull off a lie where the victim couldn't tell if it was indeed a lie, or the truth. He left her push his chest, but that didn't make him say anything more. This wasn't how you get information out of him.
Was he disappointed that Ruby felt too proud to tell Jacob he was special, or was this a proof that she had a heart? Nevertheless it was funny to openly tell she wasn't willing to tell her feelings to the criminal, or anyone else for that matter. Was there anyone in the world she had ever told everything? A confident who understood how she felt and to whom she could always go to cry on their shoulder or laugh with truly? Maybe Andrea? Max had no idea how good friends they were, but he believed he would find out eventually. "Aww, but I'm sure bunny and his little heart would love to hear they are special to at least someone in the world. If you don't tell him, I'll tell him. And you know how I am with words. I trip a lot." he gave her a pouty face followed by a smirk. That however wasn't a lie. If Ruby didn't go tell Jacob that she believed he was special, then Max would not hesitate to do it in her stead. Everyone needs to know they are special to someone, even the murderous little bunnies running in the streets.
Ruby's next words shouldn't have done anything to him, but the seductive tone, the butterfly feeling in his stomach mixed with a quick punch, all before he felt his self confidence drop down below his stomach. He squinted at that, pinching his lips, tipping his head to the side. "Nice job you almost made me shut up again. Tu veut savoir ce que ça me fait que l'on soit 'exclusifs'? Rien du tout vue que j'y croit pas." (You want to know how I feel that we are exclusive? Nothing since I don't believe it.) he smirked, trying to gain back his confidence as he leaned closer to her to whisper more french words into her ears. His tone was equally as seductive, but he had to hold back a laugh because of what he just said. She will probably believe he said something really naughty, which made his smile get even larger. He'd ask for a demonstration on how one dies from a kiss, but he decided not to get on Ruby's murderous side this time. This situation was already a little risky, it would be a fool's game to push it further.
Of course Andrea would kick his ass if he went out boasting that he slept with her when it wasn't true. But he never said he had anything with her, nor did he deny it. Sometimes when things remained unanswered, the better the outcome. However maybe he should mention to rumors to the woman the next time he gets the occasion, he wouldn't want Ruby to come solve the problem in person. Heck maybe he should just find a way to get Ruby in his office, get her in and out real quick to change targets. Passing from the well known PD blond to the blond no one even knows the face. "Maybe someday you should help me out prove them all wrong?" he said, a small smile. How much provocation would that be if Ruby showed up at the PD one day, went inside his office and came out five minutes later with Stone watching? Sounded like a suicide mission.
He nodded and chuckled. "Did you not see your neighbors yet? I'm surprised they haven't tried to bring you food for the newly arrived person in their building. I mean don't people do that?" he shook his shoulders as she started to ask so many questions about how he encountered her neighbors. "They just said hi and waved at me when I arrived at the building. They seemed to be going out, I guess?" this sounded like the most normal thing Max was given to say in the past few months. "I think you should just go say hi?" at those words he ran a hand into her hair as a comforting rub before falling backwards into the couch. He stayed upside down, his legs still hanging from the couch's backrest while Ruby rested her shoulder on his leg. "Be social Ruby, might save you a lot of death glares." he smiled genuinely, giving her advice he judged good for anyone new in a place. He crossed his arms, looking at her upside down.
