Shhhhh.... Put me out my misery
On another cold night in December
From now let's make some memories
Let us make something to remember [div style="width:380px;background-color:#ffffff;opacity:.4;color:#000000;font-family:arial;font-size:11px;padding:10px;border:0px;text-align:justify;line-height:11px;"
Today Johnny ended up finishing two jobs, one for both the Bianchi’s and also Enigma, some may say he was a two faced son of a gun, but that wasn’t was Johnny was all about. It’s true that he was working with two factions that hated each other, but he never took tasks where he had to hurt one of them. He only hurt their mutual enemies.
[break]
Today he had to set fire to some Spanish drug cartel’s car and he left his own special touch on the guys front porch step. A hot dog cut in two pieces. Most people are able to figure out what that means to a fella. But now it was smoothie time. Johnny spent so much of his childhood living from cracker box to noodle pack that he actually liked to eat healthy from time to time. Of course not being the one for cars, he took the local public transit.
[break]
It took him a total of fourty-five minutes just to get to the smoothie shack and another ten minutes to get his smoothie and probably around twenty to slurp down his coconut peanut butter surprise, don’t forget the methadone in between slurps either. Johnny was a pro, but as to what his profession was, not even he knew.
[break]
The highlight of his day would be just in a few moments when he would make his way over to Neo, to meet with Ryan. They had decided to set some time aside for each other to chit chat and probably reminisce a little bit about back in the day. Johnny didn’t have too many people close to him but Ryan was definitely one of them. Ryan is probably the only reason Johnny was able to adapt to living normally and blending in with society, without trying to kill everyone around him. Ryan had saved Johnny, mentally.
[break]
Johnny left the smoothie shack and began to walk towards Neo, the wind wasn’t bad tonight but an acrid aroma lingered in the air he was moving through. It smelled liked burning chemicals mixed with a high school gymnasium, just god awful. Maybe it was the methadone kicking in, but for some reason he wanted to focus on that scent, where it was emanating from and what was causing it. But he was knocked from his thoughts as he walked smack dab into the front door of Neo. ”Son of a…” He muttered as he took a step back to straighten his clothes.
Arriving inside all he had to do was nod at the bartender and he brought over a double crown on the rocks with a lime on the side just like always. Johnny tipped it back and nodded to the bartender once again. ”you’re going full force tonight”?. Johnny only smirked instead of answering and slipped the man a twenty as he continued to look for Ryan.

Down the memory lane Trying to take over a city was hard work. Sometimes Ryan just wanted to bang his head on a wall and be done with it instead of having to deal with dishonest people in a cutthroat business, it’d be more pleasant. It was one of these days, the kind that everyone just collectively decided to fuck him over nothing. A bad client who refused to pay here, a supplier who decided to have a bitch fit there, paperwork that just seemed to pile up no matter how hard he tried to finish them. But now he was done with all that, it was the end of the day, all that was left for him to do was get drunk.
Things were about to look up now, he would have the chance to go to his beloved Neo, chat up with the bartenders, and more importantly, meet up with Johnny. His left hand was always down to get drunk with him, it was one of the boy’s traits he appreciated a lot. It wasn’t always he got to put some time aside just to waste time and bond with the people he called family, Ruby was to one he went to usually if he felt particularly lonely, but he’d make time for everyone if he could.
He made his way inside the club, greeting the bouncer cheerfully at the door, the music thrumming and people having fun all around, he liked to sit and watch the customers, observe the kind of clientele who seemed to frequent at any given time. He reached the bar, his bartender didn’t look to be overwhelmingly busy at the moment, but he was taking care of quite a few customers. Ryan scanned the bar until his eyes fell in the lonely figure of Johnny, who seemed to already have started the drunk fest without him.
Any noise he might have made was drowned by the music as slipped on the stool besides Johnny “Hey, I see you didn’t bother to wait for me, I’m hurt.” He said in greeting, a happy smile on his face disproving his words. He waved at the bartender once he saw him looking towards them, and wordlessly he was given a glass of vodka, the bottle being placed beside it. It’d be surprising if by now the whole of Enigma didn’t already know his tastes.

Johnny thought it was sort of cool to be in his predicament. He had three awesome jobs when you think about it. He worked for Enigma, Bianchi and a mechanic shop. He got camaraderie with Enigma, eye candy with the Bianchi’s and self-satisfaction when he was at the mechanic shop. But even with that mentality, there was still something missing the entire time. Something inside of himself. Would it be found at the bottom of his glass? Either way he’d find out tonight, or would he? [break] Johnny began to sip his drink not wanting to get too hammered without Ryan, although it wouldn’t really make a difference either way, he’d still end up the same way no matter what. That was just his style, and everyone knew it. At times Johnny wondered if he was the only Whiskey drinker in Enigma, everyone else seemed to favor Vodka. Was that because they were worried about smelling like alcohol if they went somewhere? In Johnny case he didn’t care…but then again he didn’t think any of his superiors would care either. [break] ”Don’t you know where ever, I go there’s a party until I leave”? Johnny asked Ryan after he heard his playful teasing. He leaned closer to the bar and placed his hand through his hair, smirking at Ryan. ”Come here much”? He asked jokingly. [break] The smell of alcohol was emanating from all over the place and it was starting to creep Johnny out at how sensitive his nose was tonight. It was like he could smell every little thing out there without even trying, and unfortunately it didn’t have anything to do with pleasant scents either. ”Did you have a decent day”? Johnny was just trying to make small talk, they hadn’t had much time to chat much and Johnny was the kind of guy that if he didn’t see you for a few days than he’d turn a little reserved, it was odd but that was his nature.

Down the memory lane Johnny had started to drink already, but Ryan was happy to note the man wasn’t plastered yet. Drinking alone was all fine and could be a good pastime, but nothing compared to getting drunk with someone you liked. Having fun on its finest. Ryan took a gulp from his glass, a sound of appreciation on his lips. He always liked how his bartenders always kept the good stuff reserved for him. The perks of owning the place.
He chuckled at Johnny’s response, life of the party, yes. Be it an alcohol fueled party, or a bullet storm party. That’s a thing he liked, Johnny’s flexibility in how to animate parties. He leaned against the bar’s counter tipping his glass in a flirty greeting. “Sometimes, the people who come here are so worth the time” He finished with a saucy wink, before breaking the flirty mood with a laugh and drinking from his glass again.
His eyes turned towards the people dancing and making out in non-secluded corners, keeping an eye out for any suspicious movement in his club as he always did when he spent any amount of time there. It wasn’t that he thought anything would happen, but he did have his enemies. He did his best to keep Neo clean from any apparent influence with any crime organization, but the police had an awful fondness for poking their noses where they shouldn’t, not to mention the Bianchi.
He hummed in slight annoyance at Johnny’s question. “I wish. Today was not Ryan’s day, apparently. You know when everything seems to conspire together to work against you? That was pretty much what happened today.” He rolled his, his annoyance coming back briefly, before he downed the rest of his glass to make the bad feelings go away. “How about you, though? Everything went well with the hermanos?” He was sure Johnny would be sensible not to mention any nasty details in public like this, but he was curious how that job went.

Even though Johnny didn’t look it, he was good at reading. Of course not with books or music, but he was good at reading the atmosphere, the people and even expressions. He had to adapt well to the way people’s attitude changed, especially with his parents. They could go from having dinner to beating the shit out of him in under thirty seconds. Johnny just got used to it, and started to learn the behavioral patterns and the triggers. He didn’t think of it in that exact terminology but that was still the main point. [break] In the beginning @ Ryan was just someone that Johnny clung onto. For protection and stability. Ryan had helped Johnny with food, money and even pulled a few strings to help Johnny get into a place to stay. Ryan was the leader that should have been running for presidency, because he could take care of the people. But for a long time now, Ryan was a friend and a family member to Johnny. Like an uncle, or even a father figure he never had the pleasure of having. [break] Johnny could tell as soon as he asked that Ryan’s day hadn’t gone the best. He could almost smell the angst and annoyance coming from him, if it had a smell. Johnny stayed in stride with Ryan as he drank, when Ryan downed his drink so did Johnny, afterwards beckoning for the bartender to come back over with some more crown. ”Bring some tabasco with, bud”. Johnny said with a grin as the man came over with the bottle of crown and hot sauce. Johnny raised two fingers into the air, motioning that he wanted two shot glasses. When they arrived, Johnny dropped fifteen drops of tabasco into each and topped it off with the crown royal. ”Ready for a real fireball”? Johnny asked Ryan as he pushed one of the drinks towards him while placing one at his lips and throwing it back. The tabasco burned into his throat as he slammed the glass on the bar smiling. [break] Johnny couldn’t help but to grin when Ryan asked how his job went today. He thought he would never ask, and it wasn’t every day that he got to report his statuses in person to the boss, although he was sure that Ryan already knew the outcome.”Well, he’s a nice guy and our discussion got a little…” Johnny trailed off as he ordered another double crown and lime. ”…heated, but then I bought him a hotdog, and I think he’ll turn out to be a decent partner in the future to work with us” He finished with a smile as he placed a hundred on the bar and motioned for the barman to take out for his and Ryan’s drinks. [break] Johnny sat up a little but, shrugging off the small buzz he was getting from the alcohol, and wondering if he needed another pill or not, he dug his hand into his pocket and discreetly placed it in his drink to dissolve. Turning his head to look at Ryan he almost hesitated to ask, but he whispered it anyways. ”Do we really need to worry about the Bian…”. He stopped himself for a sip of his drink before picking his head up. ”Do we really need to worry about them”? He asked softly while scratching his head.

Down the memory lane Johnny was a curious thing. A violent man he took under his wing when he saw him as a lost boy with too much anger and no way to redirect it. At the time, Enigma was an idea, something that seemed impossible, but that never stopped him from trying. He didn’t have the influence that came from big names in the crime underworld, so he started from the bottom by recruiting anyone willing to listen to him. He offered the boy a chance, and in exchange he got one step closer to his ambition. All in all, Ryan thought he made the right choice, if the fact that they were sharing a drink in Ryan’s own night club was anything to go by.
And drink he did, Johnny matching him step by step, finishing his own glass at the same time as Ryan and quickly asking for another. He quickly prepared what he called a true fireball. Ryan accepted the shot glass happily. Johnny really knew his alcohol, so Ryan wasn’t afraid to take what he offered “To our ruined livers.” He said with a smiled lifting it in Johnny’s direction before downing in one go, the liquid burning his throat pleasantly, before settling the warmth that spread on his chest.
He had no doubts in Johnny’s skill to deal with those Spanish dogs, he actually had heard it went as well enough, their agreement once again in place, and it would probably stay like that until Ryan said so. But it was always better to hear the facts directly from the source, there were always some personal detail or another missing from second hand reports. “Heated uh? I hope I won’t have to deal with people complaining they can’t meet their quota because they’re missing some employees.” he said with a smirk, anyone who might be overhearing might think he was exaggerating, his voice giving an impression of sarcasm, but both of them knew it wasn’t unreasonable to think there were bodies involved.
Ryan filled his glass with Vodka again, the familiar taste of the alcohol burning his tongue as he took a sip. He watched with mild worry as Johnny put something on his own drink, it always worried him his left hand’s habit of running on drugs and alcohol, but he’d be the biggest hypocrite if he demanded Johnny to stop as he didn’t exactly treated his liver well. He was cut from his worries by Johnny’s question, he didn’t need to spell it out for Ryan to figure out about who he was referring to. Before he answered, Ryan downed his glass of Vodka, the thought of the white rats bringing a sour taste to his mouth, or maybe that was the fireball. “Yes, we need to worry. Have you seen them? Buying their way into power, killing anyone who disagree, manipulating the system like it’s their own sandbox. Thinking they can rule the word because they were born rich.” His words were spit out in bitterness, the distaste about the Bianchi clear in his voice. “Why? Do you think if we talked and touched butts everything would be fine?” It was an odd question for Johnny to ask, was he already drunk or he just wanted to see Ryan go into an angry rant?

Johnny grinned with the fact that Ryan had such a healthy palate for drinking like himself. Maybe that’s where Johnny got it from? Hanging around Ryan for too long? Johnny didn’t like much else unless it was Whiskey but he would definitely drink anything given to him and if he were buying someone a drink they were usually drinking whiskey, unless Johnny felt in the mood for a surprise, he would order a bartenders surprise. ”Ah…but to our healthy mentality and spirits instead!” Johnny spoke with a smile because he was with Ryan and finally able to get out of his place. [break] “If they can’t meet quota than they know I’ll be back for my Oscar Meyers, but if they do, than they also know I’ll be back with cake…and everyone loves cake, right boss?” Johnny next drink had arrived from the bartender and he offered the drink a smile. His addiction showing from the glint in his eye as he sipped it tenderly. ”You hire damn good bar people”! Johnny exclaimed as he turned his gaze from his drink back to Ryan. [break] Johnny didn’t catch the worried look on Ryan’s face and in all honesty it probably wouldn’t have made any difference either. Johnny was about to enter a mode that made him sad and mixing these two elements was probably the only thing he could to for a form of preventative medicine. Johnny did however notice the change in Ryan’s tone and he could sense the anger exploding from his words, or maybe it was the pill working on him inside of his drink? [break] Johnny didn’t want to say it and didn’t think it was right, but the alcohol was starting to work on him and the pill was finally for sure mingling into his blood system, because he was beginning to talk stupid. A snort shot from him as he heard Ryan talk about touching butts. “Aren’t we the same as them right now”? Johnny didn’t want to look at Ryan in the face so he just stared at his drink hoping this wouldn’t turn into a heated argument, but his liquid courage was already to strong inside of him. ”It’s not like we’re actually fighting them head on either, we’re dabbling in this and that…” Johnny trailed off for a second as he took a swig of his drink and a bite of his lime. " Maybe what I’m asking is, how do we win against them” Johnny reached his hand into a plate of pretzels and stuffed them in his mouth as he finally turned to Ryan to see what his reaction would be.

Down the memory lane He gave a hearty laugh at Johnny’s plan to deal with troublesome drug dealers. Positive reinforcement, that was always nice. “Of course, Johnny, that is a great idea, ensure their loyalty by their stomachs.” He nodded in amusement, wondering if they’d appreciate a vodka cake, or perhaps Johnny would want to slip something from his stash to make everyone mellower. Then they can take pictures of them high and use as blackmail. The plan sounded great to his buzzed mind.
Best barman in town, if he had anything to say about it. “Are you kidding me? Of course I do. Always ask for them to impress me before deciding if they are fit for the job. Can’t have people who doesn’t know their alcohol touching the bottles, don’t you think?” He smirked, swirling the glass on his hand. And Johnny seemed to get busy with his pills, fake happiness or something, Ryan was never one for drugs, he tried it some options when he was younger, but it never appealed to him, alcohol was his true love.
But that talk about the Bianchi wasn’t fun. He wasn’t sure what was the deal with Johnny’s sudden sympathy, did he see a Bianchi be nice to a puppy or something? Or had he suddenly woken up with an existential crisis? He gave a offended gasp at the insinuation they’d be the same. “JOHNNY!” Yep, that was louder than intended, in his defense he was getting drunk and louder than intended was his default anyway. He wasn’t angry though, more surprised and confused. “We’re not the same. How can you think that? Is that your way of telling me I’ve been a terrible boss lately?” There was a whinny tone in his voice as poked Johnny playfully.
But it was true that they’ve been dealing with minor stuff, small gangs here, recruiting lone mercs there, slowly expanding their influence and making themselves known to the underground. “We’re not fighting them head on because I’m not suicidal. A much as I don’t like them, I realize they amassed a lot of power over the years, we have to strike carefully and gather our strengths before a direct attack.” He grew more serious as he explained. “We may be taking our sweet time, Johnny, but that doesn’t mean we’re going nowhere. We hurt them a lot by stopping their trade by the water, now we just have to wait a little.” He smirked remembering the chaos that raised when Enigma made themselves known with the bombed harbor.
“And besides, who knows, maybe we’ll spit on their faces sooner than you might think.” He said cryptically, not ready to reveal details about a certain upcoming heist plan just yet. He thought Johnny’s questions came from impatience, since it may look like Enigma was doing nothing for the last few months, but Johnny would just have to learn not everything could be solved by running headfirst into fights.
