Pff, he wouldnt dare go back to sleep! Jacob would probably wake-stab him on the spot. Max was so lazy when he was just waking up, but who wasnt anyway? His sloth like behaviour was natural. Ruby thought about letting him relax for a few minutes in bed, just sitting in silence, happiness and staring at the ceiling. Her ribcage felt like exploding, being filled with something so strange, people called it happiness. And it was no longer that excitement from before, she didnt feel like a 5 year old bouncing around the house anymore. It was just the domestic feeling surrounding the three and dipping them into some spiritual peace. The cop raised himself finally, picking up the video camera brought by the blonde. It was still recording indeed, and now it would capture some good moments of their friendship. "Geez, your hair and face are fine, stop complaining." The woman chuckled, rolling her eyes and running a hand through his brown hair to ruffle it a bit more, being gentle though. She looked at Jacob as the French asked about their plans, and smiled, pointing her glare at the camera. Then, Pierce hurried the man out of the blanket's warmth and the mattress' softness. But hey, it's the cop's birthday, he should be able to do what he wants, for once. "Jacob, it's his birthday, if he wants cake in bed, he'll get cake in bed." With a little smirk and a soft laugh, Red retrieved her hand from Max's hair and attempted to grab the recording device again, to place it back on the nightstand. "I hope you didnt have any plans for today, since now we're your plans." She jokingly said, stretching her arms above her head. The man's sleepyness was rubbing onto her for sure.

He had slept long enough, that was a certainty, but there was this laziness to him this morning that Max had a hard time shaking off. As Jacob started to urge him out of bed however it started to help that lazy head of his get cleared up. And then Ruby was taking his defense and contradicting with Jacob's actions. If they were planning to spend the day going back and forth with him, it sounded like the day will be very tiring for him. The sheets had been removed from him and despite the heat of his home, there was still a temperature difference that brought shivers on his skin. The blond woman ran a hand into his messy hair, and he rolled his eyes, now opened more as he woke up each second that passed. He stayed quiet as they bickered and each gave their own point of view. The cop had been learning to sometimes stay quiet with these two and observe rather than burst something out every single time he had the chance. It probably paid off to do so, giving him more time to enjoy their presence and also understand them. Often when he didn't talk they bickered and wrestled with their words. Like two kids, or two parents sometimes, like right now. Especially Ruby at this moment.<p> He looked at Jacob as Ruby rubbed her hand into his hair, probably enjoying the texture a little too much. Bunny already knew that Max and Ruby had....a complicated thing going on. And the woman's actions for the beginning of this day only, were very caring and close, mundane and domestic. She removed her hand from his scalp, and he followed that action by unconsciously running his own hands into his hair. Right now he had been pretty quiet, unable to muster words for what was going on. People usually barely wished him a happy birthday, and today the two were here, with a cake, on his bed, as exited as kids on the morning of Christmas. It was baffling and Max had no idea what to think of it. Should he be scared, exited with them, cautious? Should he run away now before its too late? Should he try to explain how he felt at this moment? It sounded like a hard task to do, and he wasn't sure he would be capable to do so without making a fool of himself.<p> He looked at his bare chest and then at the camera on the nightstand. "You two are just making me feel really bare right now....of both clothes and words so let me...just..." he rose his hands and crawled out of bed, keeping his eyes on the two as if he expected them to do something while he had his back turned to them. Max then walked to his wardrobe and took out a shirt, a very simple light blue one before closing the wardrobe and leaning against it, looking at the two with a puzzled frown, still mixed with some surprise.<p> "To answer your question Ruby, the only plans I had for today was stay in bed until 11, and then get up, eat, and do nothing much but lay around watching television. But since you two became my...today...." he crossed his arms and watched them expectantly. He had no doubt Andrea probably told Ruby about his birthday, and she knew because she had access to all of the PD files. It wasn't very hard to get something as simple as a birth date once you were part of the Police's personal computer and tech department. He was still puzzled as to why these two would even care about such an information. He didn't dare ask and kept that question to be answered by his own reflections later on.

One, two, three Now you're thirty-three It was one thing to know Max and Ruby had something going on between then, it was another completely different to witness they being caring to each other. He shot an odd look at how Ruby tenderly run her fingers through Max’s hair, a caress as the man slowly woke up. On one hand it interesting to see her showing a softer side, Jacob saw it as sign that she trusted not only Max, but also himself, like one of her walls were taken down without anyone noticing. On the other hand, it was weirdly personal, like something he shouldn’t intrude (but he always did, didn’t he), like he was a third wheel to their relationship. He didn’t do anything beyond giving them a look, it was their relationship, and Max birthday, he supposed he could let them be cute and touchy with each other, as long as it remained innocent enough. Ruby was ready to jump to Max’s defense when Jacob got too pushy, while the cop still struggled to properly wake up. “I guess if he really wants it…” he stopped pushing the man, Ruby was right, Max should be allowed to enjoy the day however he wanted, even if Jacob was of the opinion he should get up early (Not that early, but it was already 10 AM) and enjoy the day. “Fine, then. You make the rules today, Max. I hope enjoy it.” He smirked, letting go completely of the cop and lifting himself from the bed. But he didn’t have to say or do anything else to convince Max to get up. The man got out of bed soon, feeling exposed because of a combination of Ruby’s habit of recording stuff and the perhaps the surprise of seeing the two criminals there, ready to improve his day, going as far as bringing him cake. “Please, we just want to celebrate.” The cop was so suspicious, like Ruby and Jacob were planning something terrible. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Good thing Max wasn’t planning anything special, though the way he described how he expected his day to go sounded pretty lonely. Not that Jacob usually did something grand for his birthday, but he did have a family who called, and sometimes he went to see them. I sounded like Max didn’t have that. “Well, that sounds boring, good thing we’re here then.” The excitable smile never left his face as he waked to the bedroom doorway. “Yeah, we’ll be your today” He smiled amused by the way Max worded that “What do you want to do first? Breakfast? Cake for breakfast? Gifts? Laze around and talk? Your day, your choice.” Even if Jacob was being pushy for him to get up not five minutes ago, it was truly his intention to let Max decide what should be done during the day, but he hoped the man didn’t put off the gifts for too long, who knew how long the puppy would stay quiet inside his box.

Ruby wasnt aware that both Max and Jacob were taking her soft actions as showing affection, or as something that was created by any sort of "thing" they both referred to, when talking about relationships or friendships. The truth was, she wished to be able to stay away from them, watch with an uninterested gaze and have her arms folded, look as she didnt give a damn about these two. But Red simply couldnt. Oh, she was able to fake it, no problems there. But living it for real, it wasnt possible. Maybe because they got too close of her, or maybe it was too late to back away now- what mattered was that she cared for Max as much as she cared for Jacob. The lattest man was more complicated when it came to being affectionate though, so words and small gestures should be the ice breakers for now. Pierce's odd look was replied to with a confused, maybe even questioning glare from the woman. She could caress Jacob's curls as well, if that's what he wanted, he just had to come closer. And the mercenary gave up on trying to hurry Madden into waking up, though his excitement was making him a bit pushy. It was really sweet however, to see him put his heart in this day's plans. Yet Max making the rules..that was supposed to go wrong at some point. "Jacob's right, we just wanna be with you on your birthday. And you will love what we though about doing for you." The blonde grinned, her eyes having that moschevious glimpse in them.
The French got out of the bed lazily, looking a bit skeptical to lose the criminals from his sight. Ruby raised herself from the man's bed, straightening her clothes and joining her hands under her chest, waiting for him to be ready. No plans? Perfect! Jacob was glad to hear that too, and it was no surprise, really. Even if Max had plans, the criminals would probably beg for him to cancel everything. Or at least less important stuff, like PD meetings.. "I think we should go to the livingroom, there's more space for us to celebrate." There was a reason why Ruby suggested moving, and it was because Jacob's words on the presents reminded her of the puppy waiting. So she grabbed the video camera, holding it steady in her palm while moving to the bedroom's door, walking backwards to capture Jacob and Max's moves. Luckily the Israeli didnt bump into the doorframe or anything, and she waited for them to follow. Once they would all be in the living, the blonde would point the camera at the coffee table and the present boxes under it. The one with the little dog was quiet for now, the shadow casted by the table hid a little button nose poking at the little air holes. "Hey Max, what's that?" Like a parent hinting to her child to go check out a present, Ruby looked at the Frenchman and at the pet's box, smirking lately at Jacob. The present she brought could wait some more.

He had no idea of what rules he could possibly install on this day. The only rules he wanted to see made were the ones where it should all be calm and not ask too much of him. He was allowing himself a single day a year to calm down, push away any thoughts that could rattle the bottom of his brain and exhaust him. So today he didn't even want to think about how weird it was for two criminals supposed to be in prison to be sitting on his bed and wishing him a happy birthday without a knife under the throat saying it will be his last. He waved a hand in denial of Jacob's words. "I'm not making any rules today. Because its my birthday doesn't mean I'll be bossing anyone around." he made things clear but hoped that those words wont encourage the two to do stupid things.<p> The two's innocence was a pleasure for the eyes and ears right now, and Max was almost afraid to believe they could look so sheepish without a second thought behind their heads. Ruby's following words only participated in giving Max the feeling that he was right to feel a little suspicious. You will love what we thought about doing for you. Yeah, that right there rang a small alert light inside the cop's head. What could they possibly have planned? He rose a brow at her words with a slightly worried look. "I'm scared...you two are scaring me so bad right now, do you even realize?" he said, a smile on his face however, aiming to make his words sound more like a joke than a real emotion he was going through.<p> He moved to the living room as Ruby did, looking at the camera she had in her hands. He wasn't usually a big fan of that type of thing. Pictures didn't bother him as much but recording? That was a bait for strange actions to happen or awfully sounding words to come out of their mouths. Tread carefully Madden. His intentions of not worrying about anything today flew away like they never existed. Ruby pointed at some boxes under his coffee table. Oh great they brought presents...Now that was what Max should probably be truly afraid about. He had no idea of what Jacob could have possibly brought for him, but what Ruby brought? His mind was already running wild with ideas and he hoped that none of them were real. He rolled his eyes as she questioned him like a kid, asking him what was under the coffee table. He didn't move to the couch however and instead walked into the kitchen to get some water into the coffee machine. He felt like he would need one badly and quickly.<p> Was this all a dream ready to collapse into nightmare? For the first time this morning Max questioned himself on the subject. It all felt too real for it to be a dream but also too....normal, in a way. Despite the two being overly exited and caring they still seemed to be themselves. And one important thing was: He could see their faces clearly, not like in a dream where you know who is the person in front of you but their faces are always blurred. "I'll start with a cup of coffee if you don't mind Jacob." he chuckled as the man was listing everything Max had the possibility of doing. Has Max ever seen Jacob that way? No he really didn't think so. Would it last? No idea. Was it a good thing? Ehhh that's still to be seen. He took out three cups from the cupboards, his own being the 'I love my coffee like my criminals' one. Yes he kept those cups, and yes he used all of them.<p> He served the coffee then sat on the couch, hoping the two would join him there. He was going to ask them a few questions about how they found out, and if they had to kill anyone to get the information when a small rattling sound came from one of the boxes. A big box with holes on the sides, a detail the cop didn't notice until now. He put his cup on the coffee table and looked at the two with a frown. "What's that?" he asked, a hint of worry in his voice. They didn't bring him a cat did they? That would ruin his day and force him to put all three of them (Jacob, Ruby and the cat) outside. He pulled the box from under the coffee table until it was between his legs at the foot of the couch. He then leaned back into the couch, looking at the suspicious box with worry. He didn't want to open it. Curiosity killed the cat, well in this occasion, curiosity would kill the dog if what was inside the box was a cat.<p> "Guys if this is a cat I'm killing you both." he warned before leaning over his knees, feeling irrationally scared of what was inside that box. Perhaps what was in the box felt that fear because it poked its nose out one of the holes, making Max frown even more before suddenly softening and opening the box. The dog inside was laying in a curled little ball, raising its head with giant ears at the group around him. It seemed rather confused. In a mutter Max sighed that it wasn't a cat it french before looking at the two, shaking his head. "Please tell me this is a joke." his eyes locked on his two friends for a while, before looking back at the little beast he seemed to have been given. A dog? Really? It was a surprise but also a slightly strange one since 'he' was the dog in this group of three. It sounded like a joke, but would they really go through all the trouble the pull that kind of joke on him? Sounded ridiculous.<p> The German Shepherd pup raised itself on his paws, looking at Max rather expectantly while slowly starting to wag its tail. Stricken by the pup's innocent look Max sighed and picked it up from the box, realizing there was a small stain at the bottom of it. He brought the pup on his lap and that somehow made the dog even happier, wagging his tail even more and trying to jump higher on Max to reach his neck to lick it. With his arms, Max tried to keep the little pup from doing so, failing miserably as he had no idea he would get so much attention from the animal so quickly. He started to speak to the pup, with a voice no one has heard before, one that was slightly higher pitched and probably encouraging to the little beast. "Oh for how long have you been in the box? Did Ruby put you in there? Or was it Jacob? Oh yes, yes You're so cu__huuii" the dog had started to walk on Max's lower stomach, pushing with it hind legs to his his face, yapping slightly. Max rubbed the pup's face, playing around with his ears before looking at the two criminals. Will he be able to take care of that dog? It was going to become really big pretty fast and start eating as much as his owner and require a lot of attention. He'll have to bring him to the PD training for dogs field to make that pup a useful dog. "Are you two happy now? I'm covered in drool and soft puppy hair." he took the pup to cradle it between his arms, turning it on its back to try to calm it down. It seemed to work okay for now.

One, two, three Now you're thirty-three Max always has to be such a good person. Jacob and Ruby offer him the opportunity to make the rules for a change, and the man refuses it. It was funny to see, he didn’t even mean Max should make terrible rules, like call him master and make Jacob and Ruby do his bidding, but he imagined the cop would say things like ‘no calling me a dog today’ or ‘No weapons today’ or something. Well, his loss, Jacob would still try to make the day as pleasant as possible, though. Much to his amusement, it didn’t matter if the two criminals were being murderous or being overly excited, Max would always be wary of them, even if he was joking “What? Just because we’re happy for you we must have second intentions? I’m hurt Max, you lack of trust is terrible” He teased, sharing a smile with them. He followed the two to the living room, and Max chose a cup of coffee to start the day. It was a good choice, he was hoping the man wouldn’t actually have cake for breakfast. He went the kitchen after Max. The man was nice enough to take out three cups so they could have coffee together, Jacob was glad to see Max was using the mugs he and Ruby had improved. He took the bunny head cup and served himself some coffee as well, joining Max on the couch as the man finally noticed the presents under the coffee table. Ruby’s tactic to call attention to the presents was funny, like treating Max like a child and pointing out the obvious. The puppy box rattled as the dog got excited with people nearby, or maybe he was just scared of the new environment. Jacob could see the little snout poking out of box, the puppy trying to smell its surroundings. It was an adorable sight, and Max would be lame of he hated the gift. “A cat? What’s wrong with cats?” And why would Max think they would bring him a cat? If anything, that would be more appropriated to give Ruby, since she was the one who was often compared with a cat. The coffee mug was used to cover Jacob’s huge excited smile as Max opened the box and discovered the puppy inside. The Max-es looked at each other curiously for a few moment, before Max muttered something, and looked at both he and Ruby. His words made Jacob’s smiled go away in a second, disappointment filling him. “it- no..?” It was definitely not a joke, the dog was real. Did he not like it? Was it a horrible idea after all? It was always possible that Max actually hated dogs, and that was why he didn’t like to be called such. He didn’t say anything to that, waiting for Max to tell them to get rid of the pup. And then the baby dog did what it did best. It looked cute, wagging its tail excitedly as if trying to climb on top of the cop. It was rather adorable, and Max picked it up, talking stupidly to it as the pup happily was placed on Max’s lap. Jacob looked at the camera, certain Ruby would be recording it all, he smiled broadly to her, as if saying ‘are you seeing this?’ he resented Max would think he was bad to the puppy though “It was just for a little while, I’ve put animals in confined spaces for longer, and they survived... kinda.” It was squirrels, and it was a hole in the ground, but still, that dog was very well looked after while it was with him, he wouldn’t hurt the animal who was meant to be a gift for Max. He extended his hand, petting the puppy happily as it licked the cop’s face, leaving slobber all over him. “I’m very happy, the look suits you.” He smirked, but soon his smile became softer, fonder. “I’m glad you like it.”

No "no guns/knives" rules, nor "no incidents" pointers, Max really hoped for the best apparently. He was right to do so, it was his birthday, people usually behaved on such days. Jacob and Ruby would obviously aim to display their best behaviours, or at least try. For now, the day seemed to have been started in the right way. No one got upset, emotionally exhausted (even though Ruby was being a bit sentimental, but hopefully no one will notice) or just generally fed up with the others' presence. Max was so paranoid, it was a bit surprising (but not really) that he didnt take Red's words for granted, did he really think the two would hurt him now? After everything? Of course they would, but it would be less painful and it wont occur today. (They owe him that much) "Yeah, but is it a good scare, or a bad scare?" The woman didnt actually expect an answer, and she made that obvious when she smirked and gave the man a wink. It was so fun to tease him and play with his mind sometimes, it was like a drug.
A cup of coffee to start the day with was a better idea than munching on a piece of cake the first thing in the morning. It would also wake Max up a bit, shake off that impression that this was all just a dream..or maybe a nightmare? Red walked to the kitchen too, making a mental note on how the cop hadnt tossed the criminals' artwork away. Though, she didnt feel the need to gulp down any coffee, so she let the men grab theirs and followed back to the presents. Ruby put the camera on the coffee table's end, away from anything that could flip it on the floor, and let it record from there. If the two objected the whole filming, later, she would have no problem turning it off. Then, it was show time.
Max stared at the box, asking worried questions before gathering the courage to open it up. "It's not a mini tiger, stop being suspicious." The blonde chuckled, thinking the cop's dislike for cats was indeed from the near-death experience with a Bianchi tiger. ..and his pet. Both Jacob and Ruby felt disappointment fill up inside of them when Madden appeared to think the dog was a joke. What? Was the puppy ugly? Did Max not like German Shepherds? He didnt even give him a chance.. The woman thought sadly, looking up at the French with a not understanding glare. She didnt get it, what was wrong with the pup? Did Max hate pets? Her glare moved on Jacob then, transmitting him the same sad glimpse from her orbs. So..the idea sucked? Dammit! She should have known. "Why would it be a joke?" Did Madden also think their presence here was also a joke...?
The puppy soon had effect on Max, and the pair looked like they were meant for each other. Blackwood's disappoint vanished, a relieved little sigh announcing its departure. The ends of her lips turned up again, in a genuine smile. Jeez, these pets are so great. Madden's baby talk was hilarious, but Ruby wouldnt laugh. She was grinning like an idiot at the scene, and she finally gave a chuckle at Pierce's glare. The puppy now laid in his owner's arms, and the blonde could bet that he was enjoying the feeling of having a new home and a loving owner. She let the mercenary speak, raising a brow as he spoke about trapping animals, but letting it go for now. She raised her palm near the pup's belly to tickle it with her fingers and put an elbow up on the couch's backrest sitting between Madden and the armrest (similar to how Jacob was situated) .
They were obviously happy, to see Max enjoy his new companion's presence, and to actually see the cop be happy. Genuine happiness, pure peace, for once. "The puppy loves you as much as we do, Max." People say nothing compares to a dog's love, even though the two criminals probably held much powerful sentiments than that. Those feelings just needed to..take their time and crawl out of the vaults they've been sealed in. Her eyes did not betray any hidden reasons to say that, and her voice hinted at no lies. Though while speaking, she looked directly at the man's eyes, and then lately moved her glare on Jacob's, before settling on the pup again. Maybe she was a bit afraid that Madden wouldnt think the same about the two, or now, the three.

The man looked at the two with a slight shake of his head. Couldn't they understand he was scared of their pranks by now? They have been lately pulling off the worst of paybacks to each other, so he believed it was more than legitimate for him to fear any comeback from them. But obviously, by the way they acted, they had no second thoughts behind their minds. It could be read on the man's face that his worry was slowly going away. He chuckled at Ruby's words and shook his head even more without answering. He pointed a finger at Jacob however. "My lack of trust is understandable. Should I remind you how you just broke into my house? Again? Don't act like a hurt bunny on me today Jacob." he gave a smile with his words.<p> They didn't pick up on his fear of cats yet. Was that good or bad? He had no idea but he wasn't sure he really wanted to tell them about that more embarrassing part of him. He never wanted to be afraid of cats, but here he was, afraid shirtless of them, paralyzed by a blue fear he couldn't always control. But the relief that there was no cat in the box was there and could clearly be read on his face. However he noticed the look on the two criminal's faces when he asked if it was a joke. So it wasn't a joke, these two were really offering him a puppy for his birthday.<p> As he caressed the pup he started to think about what all of this would imply. Dammit, he'll have to stop saving his money for further unknown purposes and actually use the money he was receiving from the PD. He wasn't badly paid at all, and his modest way of living had just permitted him to earn quite a lot of side money he kept without really planning to do anything of it. So owning a dog won't actually create a hole in his budget. He looked at the two, in his eyes the realization that this was very much serious and true. "I_I am just surprised. I'm just not used to gifts...So I can really keep the dog?" he wanted to make sure one last time that they were truly doing this and not just fooling around with him. He asked another question quickly after the first one however, on a falsely serious tone. He knew it wasn't true but he wanted to keep making them believe he didn't fully trust them. "Wait, did you kill someone important and giving me a puppy in hope to make me overlook it?" he chuckled at the end of his sentence, rubbing the pup's chin, which closed its eyes, leaning its head against the man's neck.<p> Ruby's comment regarding love and how the puppy seemed to love Max as much at the two was heartwarming but also a little disturbing. And so was Jacob's comment about confined animals. Max gave them both a raised brow but didn't add anything to it. Jacob's touched look however was rather interesting. Max looked at him curiously before noticing the intensity with which Ruby's eyes watched everything. These two were showing sides of them Max never saw before, but they weren't bad sides, far from it actually. He smiled at the two, a look of deep thank in his eyes. Not because he just got a new companion for life but because the two went through all the effort to make him happy on his birthday. No one ever did that for him, and despite his sister making his birthdays more fun, it was very different for him to actually be surrounded by friends who put their heart and soul into his day. He put the pup on the floor, letting it wander through the new house, hoping it won't make too much of a mess before he grabbed the two to bring them closer. "You two are driving me nuts. Thanks." the thank you was genuine, not sarcastic at all as he hugged the two at the same time.

One, two, three Now you're thirty-three Every scare was a good scare for someone, in their trio, it was usually good for Jacob and Ruby, it all depended on perspective. Max’s words made sense, pranks and jokes were not rare among the three of them, and Ruby and Jacob were not afraid to hurt someone, even if they are considered a friend, Max’s hesitance was understandable, but still, he could pretend the cop’s action hurt, even if he did have a point. “That’s a detail, Max. We didn’t want to wake you up.” The fact that they would have picked the lock even if Max was awake was irrelevant. He smiled cheekily at Max, fully aware that he had no reason to trust their motives, but really, even if they were planning something, it would be only to improve the cop’s day. Max was not used to gifts? How sad was that, the thought of how lonely Max must be made Jacob frown, it was funny to think it took two criminals to give this cop a thoughtful gift, at least he had them now, and Jacob would make sure to spend any kind of celebration with the man, and Ruby as well, like makeshift family. A very disturbing, extremely dysfunctional one, but a family nonetheless. “Yes Max, you can keep the dog. Yours to train, love and to keep you company when Ruby and I are too busy.” He gave the man a genuine smile, the puppy sniffing his hand as Jacob continued to pet it. “His name is Max, by the way.” He said with mischievous smile, waiting for the cop’s protest eagerly. The accusation was hilarious for some reason, it made Jacob burst out laughing. Why would either he or Ruby bother to steal someone’s dog? That sounded like a headache to him, too many variables. “We bought the dog, Max, all properly, with real money and all that. Figured you would not want an illegal dog. I have the papers and everything…” He looked at the empty box, realizing belatedly that he did not have the papers on him. It was probably still back on his apartment on some table, and it didn’t cross his mind to pick it up. He hadn’t thought Max would doubt the dog’s legitimacy. “Well… I do have them, except not here.” He added sheepishly. “I’ll give them to you later.” Puppies were known for their infinite energy and love. This little German Shepard certainly seemed to have lots of love to give, he seemed ready to receive the unconditional affection from anyone willing, even from Jacob, who had trapped the pup in a box for about an hour. As he Watched it bounce around happily, it striked him as odd, animals weren’t usually fond of him, for reasons related to holes on the ground. He shot a look at Ruby, her words rung so very true, but love was a strong word, and Jacob wasn’t exactly ready to admit such sentiment existed in regards to the two, not even to himself. He swallowed dry shifting away from Max and crossing his arms, going quiet. Max shot them a deeply grateful look, it made Jacob more uncomfortable and he looked away, all this showing care and having feelings finally getting to him, it was a bit overwhelming. He watched the puppy be free, sniffing around curiously now that it had the mobility to go around. Jacob would have stayed quiet for a bit longer, to try to gather his thoughts and let Ruby chat a bit, but Max had other ideas, grabbing both Jacob and Ruby in group hug, one in each side of him. The man’s words showed how happy he was with this situation. Jacob opened and closed his mouth a few times, unsure to what to say, he did not fight the embrace, even if he was still feeling uncertain. It took him a few moments before he gathered the courage to respond to the hug, but eventually he wrapped his arm around Max’s back. “Yeah, well… it’s no-, I mean, we ha-, it’s just… someone… has to” And now he was flubbing his words, great. He closed his mouth embarrassedly, deciding to shut up.

So what if they broke into his house again, it's not like he made any effort to get a better lock, or better security administrations. So it was basically Max's fault that the two broke into his home. Logical, right? "You never actually told us not to break into your house.." Ruby added as a casual comment with a shrug. All on camera, Max. Not used to gifts? Well, too bad, because if Max didnt die on them this year, there were more presents to come, on every occassion. "Well, get used to it fast." The blonde added, and nodded after the mercenary's comment. Who was he kidding, even with the criminals around, the puppy would still get all the attention for sure, just look at it! "The name seemed fit for him." A little wicked smirk curled up on her face and Ruby shot both of the men some glares.
Killing a target and taking their dog sounded like something only a drunk person would do. Or something Max could think about. "Maybe...maybe not?" The woman tilted her head to the sides while speaking, chuckling once and letting Jacob explain it all. "Getting this dog is probably the most legal thing we've done in a while." She was kidding, of course. Who knows what other legal things Jacob did anyway?
They all went silent after Ruby's statement about love. Such a bunch of cowards, oh god, they could go in an open field and shoot aimlessly at targets surrounding them but couldnt look someone in the eye and tell them they loved them? What was this all about? If there were rewards for being a coward, those two would recieve them, twice. It's not like the blonde was any wiser and braver when it came to such...emotions, but she didnt think they would take her statement so personally. She counted on them laughing or cracking jokes about it, but..turned out she hit a soft spot. Max hugged them both out of nowhere, and Ruby's gaze lifted from the dog now roaming free to the French (a bit confused) and looked over his shoulder at Jacob. So...Max loved them back? Blackwood put a hand between his shoulderblades, patting him a few times unsure on how much the hugging should last. She gave up at some point and just hugged back. "It's our pleasure, Max." A sincere smile was thrown at him.
Regarding the other present box, under the wrapping and the red ribbon, the box was filled with quite some stuff. There was a spiky collar for the actual dog and a black leash, to go with any other color; two little plush toys, rabbit and cat meant for the German Shepherd to play with. And since the pet was covered, Madden's new belongings consisted in a sheriff star with 'Max' embedded, a pair of red boxers with three black diamonds (card style) on one of the butt cheeks. Hilariously, the underwear had 90% chances to fit Madden, since Ruby loved to and wa fairly good at aproximating all sorts of sizing and measurements, be it clothing, suspects' height or weight etc. And there was obviously a men's necklace with a dog tag that had a cat's outline on a face, and a bunny's on the other. Ruby loved what she did with the contents with that box. "You still have a present left, to open. I'd be cautious with that one though." She teased with a chuckle, once the hugging and the moment would be over.

Should he tell them here and now not to break into his house again? Sounded like something risky, and there was something about the fact that they just broke into his privacy from time to time that he just loved too much. Maybe it was the fact that they went through the trouble of doing so, to give him attention. Was Max so attention hungry? It wasn't impossible, in fact it could very much be true. Ever since he was a kid he sought for attention after his family or anyone around him, leading him from being a deviant man today and lets put it the way it is: Far from the common conception of normal. "Alright lets put things this way: Don't break into my house again unless it's truly important. Next time you can just knock." he put things simply, but knowing the two, they'll find a way to get around his condition. It wasn't surprising coming from them. They were Ruby and Jacob after all, devious from society's normal, and Max's only friends.
Oh no they didn't. Call the dog Max? Really? He gave a scolding frown at the two, obviously he wasn't glad about the name but seeing how the two were so touchy on him being unhappy about something, he decided not to make too much of a big deal about it. "I'll find another name, for my sanity's sake." he said, looking at the two with a daring look. He had no idea of how to call the pup, but he'll find something that will suit him. And obviously it was a he and not a she. Max was actually glad it was a male and not a female. She dogs are often harder to train and can easily get bipolar. "I'll take care of the beast but hopefully you two won't just suddenly disappear from existence. That would be extremely rude." he smiled at the two wondering if he should give them each an animal carrying their own names, but as soon as he realized that would require him to get a cat for Ruby the idea was trashed.
He was ready to believe Jacob when he said the dog had paper. The man rose his hands "Don't worry, I'm joking. Though I hope you two really didn't kill anyone for any of this to happen." well if they went back far enough in time, the two's criminal past is what brought them to today's friendship. Max still barely believed it was possible, but he won't dare question it now. Having them next to him now saved a few lives surely. Keep them from getting bored, and they won't go on a killing spree.
Oh how it was funny when Jacob desperately tried to translate emotions into words. He was so bad at it but it was what added to the list of why Max enjoyed his presence so much. He tapped his hand flat on the man's back as one more thank you before doing the same with Ruby. He broke the embrace gently after a while and looked at the puppy was laying on its side numbing on the present box Ruby was no pointing at. "I think I dread this box even more than the previous one. Even the puppy is trying to destroy it." he said with a chuckle before pulling the box away from the dog and setting it on his lap. The puppy got up right away and tried to munch more on the box. "Sit_ Si_ Sit!" Max tried to get the pup to listen to him but obviously the battle was lost. Not the war however. He picked the puppy up and set it on Jacob's lap. Not sorry for giving him a handful of wiggly cuteness to deal with. He opened the present slowly, still anxious yet curious about what there might be inside. The first things he found seemed to be for the dog. Two plush toys, a spiky collar and a leash. Nice, though the dog will not wear that collar at home, that's for sure. "Hey, look puppy." he took the bunny plush toy and gave it to the pup before giving the cat. Of course the dog took both in its mouth and ran away with them. Those won't last long. He then looked back inside the box and chuckled, rolling his eyes. "Seriously? A sheriff star? Couldn't have gone more cheesy huh?" he still pined the thing on his chest, shivering a little at the contact of the cold metal as it pierced through his shirt. He was then greeted by something really red at the bottom of the box. He took it out and rose a brow, turning to Ruby, since obviously those Harley Queen themed boxers were from her. "Did they run out of Batman underwear?" he bit his lips before shaking his head and putting the boxers back, picking up the dog tag necklace from the box as he did. He smiled, genuinely as the metal pieces dangled from his fingers. He slid it around his neck. "You had to give me something to remind the world I belong to you two hm?" he questioned, knowing the answer already. All those little comments, only existing to tell them he appreciated the thoughts behind those gifts.

One, two, three Now you're thirty-three What was important was up to interpretation, in Jacob’s opinion. For example, if one of them was injured, or if they needed to tell max something, or even if they got the sudden urge to visit him in the middle of the night. Those are all important situations, reason enough for them to pick Max’s lock. He was sure Ruby would agree. “Of course Max, we always have a very important reason to pick your lock open. And besides, last time I knocked you didn’t answer, it’s your fault, really.” Max got himself into this situation, what’s the point of knocking if he’d just be ignored? Jacob would rather just skip the waiting and invite himself in. It was delight to see Max’s outrage, Jacob shot Ruby a mischievous smile, seeing if she was still recording the whole scene. The lengths they went to make this joke, going as far as buy an actual puppy just so they could call it Max and gift to the cop, it was the only reason they even bothered, even though now Jacob realized it was truly a good gift. But Max was lame if he changed the puppy’s name. “Like she said, it’s fitting! Why would you change it?” His voice carried a slight fake hurt tone to it. “The most legal thing we have done in a long time” he repeated what Ruby said “You should be proud of yourself.” He smirked. That would be that day, when Max actually managed to change something in either Jacob or Ruby, make them stop being criminals, maybe even atone for their crimes, just the thought was hilarious. There was some things that would never change, but it was nice to play pretend, enjoy the moment and not worry about what could be’s. When in each other’s company, they were just a trio of friends, and that’s how Jacob would like to keep, but he doubted it would last very long, people like him couldn’t have nice things and be happy for very long, it wasn’t how the world worked. He felt Max’s hand give him light tap on his back and turned his head away, staying quiet for now. Thankfully neither of them said anything about Jacob’s sudden inability to speak, and he let them chat away about Ruby’s present box while he tried to get a hold of himself. He was still stubbornly quiet when Max unceremoniously dropped the puppy on his lap. He shot the cop a confused look since he wasn’t really paying attention to what was happening, his hands going to pet the dog distractedly as it tried to nip on his fingers. Soon Max distracted it by giving the pup two plush toys, and little Max took it eagerly in his mouth and run away to play. “There’s something a bit disturbing about giving the dog a bunny and a cat to destroy.” He said, finally breaking his silence, the moment of awkwardness passing hopefully without further comment. Now that he didn’t feel like hiding in a hole any longer, Jacob turned his attention to the gift box Max was digging through, a sheriff badge, he promptly pined on his shirt, some Harley boxers, really Ruby? “Are those for you to have an excuse to see his underwear?” He asked her with a teasing smirk. And last but not least, there were two dog tags that Max promptly put on as well. “Well, I can argue you already have a pretty good reminder” he poked the cop’s chest, where the J&R brand was carved. Jacob also had a gift for the cop, but compared to the box of goodies Ruby had brought, he felt it was a little lacking, as it was mostly a joke gift. It was a heavy square package, inside there was a cat book, a story book, and a dog collar and necklace matching set, with Max written on both of them. Seeing how Ruby had also gifted Max a dog collar, Jacob could easily guess which one he would use. “Here, not as fancy, but…” He shrugged, handing Max his little package, hoping he would at least laugh at it a little.

outfit ;x words musenotes: no kill for late pls | No breaking in unless it had an important reason behind it.. Define important She wanted to say, but it will be in vain anyway. Important for Max peobably meant if the planet caught on fire or if the PD got attacked or if any of the two had a life & death problem. For Ruby though, important meant waking Max up early and enjoying some quiet morning while drinking coffee; going on a murder spree with him and Jacob, and so on. Their happiness was important, that's what Max forgot. All three needed to be content with their moods. He shouldnt be surprised if he got visited in the middle of the night by a Ruby feeling too lonely in her own home or just wanting to check up on Max. She'd start doing the same to Jacob, once she figured out his darn adress.
"Disappear? And leave the pup unsupervised, all into your care? We're not that sadistic. We'll be at a call's distance if you need us." Ruby reassured with a subtle smirk, only teasing Max. She believed he could take care of lil Max by his own too, but a small push at the beginning wont hurt.
Ruby watched carefully as Max moved onto opening the present box, her orbs darting from his hands grasping every object, to his expression or actions. The stuff for the puppy was also like a little push forward, for Max to get more comfortable and used with the idea of now having a pet. "Shh, the puppy's innocent!" Blondie hovered her index in front of her lips in a 'silence!' manner, frowning jokingly at Pierce while still smirking. Just like a parent telling someone that their kid is not old enough to hear, see or know about certain stuff. The next things in the box were more for Madden's mental sanity, something to keep him chuckling maybe rather than just giving him a monotone gift. "I dont need an excuse, Jacob." Red joked with a silent chuckle, raising a brow at the mercenary in a teasing way. If he went on with his mocking and innuendos, why should she be the quiet one? "The Batman ones were string only." That was a lie, she didnt actually find Batman themed underwear. She did find Superman and Flash (even Hulk, but they were plus size and the innuendo would be terrible) but those werent much of a deal. Max did like to compare her to some Harley, and when she asked the clerk about that, she got this pair and a weird glare.
Reminders were priceless. Max should be glad they didnt decide to renew his scar. Ruby shook her head amused by the two's comments, and looked curiously at what Pierce handed Max. A nicely wrapped box, it looked heavy too. Ruby's first guess was that the mercenary had packed some pretty weapon for Max, but when he'd open up the present, she would be actually surprised by Jacob's gift. Books were the greatest of presents, really. And it looked like she wasnt the only one thinking about giving Max some necklace, which was rather hilarious. But on a second look ..was that a book about cats? "Jacob and his foreseeing abilities dammit." Plotting against Max? ...who knows? But what really intrigued her, was the fairytale book. Now when Ruby looked back at everything, Max had called her and Jacob all sorts of things related to that tale. Bunny, Queen of Hearts, Cat - maybe actually hinting at the Cheshire? Why so blind, Ruby? She was curious on how Max would react.

But only once a year
[attr="class","petit"] [break] [attr="class","petitcontent"] [attr="class","petitcontentstyle"] [attr="class","petitfirstletter"]T Of course he guessed right. Those two will never miss on an occasion to simply break into his home, his personal space. It was probably a lot of fun for them to torment him, even though sometimes he got the feeling, like right now, that their aim wasn't to completely make his life a living hell. It seemed like they actually wanted to make him happy. It was a strange thought, to believe that they could care for a stupid cop incapable of killing his own Stockholm syndrome in order to stay alive and safe. But he wasn't going to complain, not now. One day it'll backfire at him, he knew it. But being all alone for so long, relying on only himself to make him happy was not how he wanted to live his life, not anymore. Now they could make him happy as well, and hopefully he managed to do the same thing for them, bring them peace in their ever so violent lives. From that moment on, he wanted to swear that he will never hurt them again, that he will do what was in his power to keep them for him. What a selfish thought, one that was quickly brushed away. They will never belong to anyone, and even though he wished he could say the same thing about himself, he was already belonging to them. [break] [break] Receiving the pup was like getting a baby from god knows where. And they were all the parents with Max as the main one. It could be fun to use the pup as an excuse to drag them over and get some time with the two. When did Max become so possessive of them was beyond his knowledge. He chuckled at Ruby's words of being a call's length from him if he needed help with the pup. At that moment, the GS came closer to him, sitting in front of him again with the plushed toys in its mouth. When Max tried to retrieve them, the dog ran away with them, only to tease him from the other end of the kitchen. "Yeah I'll bring him at the PD training classes, otherwise it'll become a real useless brat." he chuckled. The simple presence of the dog was what kept it from ever being useless. It was a little reminder that you weren't alone, that you'll always have a tiny partner next to you now matter what. Good to know. [break] [break] The most legal thing they have done. Yeah somehow that sounded very silly coming out of Jacob's mouth, but he sounded proud of himself and so did Ruby. He looked at him with a squint before moving his hands back to the sheriff star pinned on his chest, taking it off and pinning it onto Jacob. "Yes you sound very proud of yourself Jacob. Thanks for killing no one on my birthday I appreciate it." what he just said was aimed at Ruby as well, and he was tempted to put the spiky dog collar around her neck, but that would have crossed a kink zone he didn't want to see disturb the piece just yet. [break] [break] And yet that line got crossed moments later when Jacob asked questions regarding Ruby's taste in gifts and more precisely the boxers. He looked at the man with a roll of his eyes until Ruby replied and he shot her a 'no you didn't' type of look. She truly never ceased to be naughty did she? Max didn't mind it at all when they were only the two of us, but he always felt bad for Jacob having to witness it all. Being in his place, he would have probably gone bored of it and stopped acknowledging it at some point. "Excuse me, I'm the one deciding when I want to walk around in boxers. So yes you do need a valid excuse to see me wearing those." why was he even discussing this? He didn't need to justify himself. He didn't even want to comment on the string Batman underpants. Oh well, it didn't matter anymore because Jacob was getting into the J&R scar subject and touched his chest. Patted it to be more precise. He always felt a little strange whenever someone accidentally touched that spot of his body. It had just become more sensible over the weeks, like whenever someone touched that area, he was reminded it was there and it simply felt there when it didn't a second before. Max nodded at Jacob's words since he spoke the truth, yet again, damn you Pierce. [break] [break] Max was surprised when Jacob pulled out another wrapped present for him. He somehow didn't imagine him to be the type to give gifts, he even thought at some point that the gift from Ruby was from both of them. He took the gift with his brows raised, unable to hide his surprise. When he opened it he first saw the necklace for both the dog and him. So they were really going full on with that Max name weren't they. He chuckled and sighed, giving up on complaining until he found a name for the pup. However Jacob's necklace for the dog was more fitting, less aggressive for a house and for cuddles. He called out for the puppy, using a range of high pitched voices and squeaks to get it close before gently grabbing him and putting the collar on. "There, now I can hug him without getting stabbed." he looked at Ruby with a raise of his brow. He'll use that necklace in the streets but not at home, that was a certainty. After slipping the other necklace with the name Max around his neck he looked into the box again, discovering the perfect book. He looked at Jacob with a grateful and satisfied smirk. "Do you know how much use I can get out of this? I think you might be saving my life." he looked over to Ruby as she spoke. Of course she was constantly plotting against him, but it would be hilarious to see how much in this book matched with her own behavior. "Thanks Jacob." he said, before he looked back into the box, only to see a very well known book cover. [break] [break] He picked it up, unable to say anything, just looking at the cover, trying to understand how and why he was getting this. He frowned slightly, his back arched as he rest his elbows on his knees. He brushed his fingers on the old cover before he opened the book, looking inside to look at the first page, reading the first few words. Alice. That was the first thing that came to his empty mind at that moment. Was Jacob even understanding the weight of his gift? Probably not, no one knew except Alice. After a moment of being unable to speak he turned to Jacob, unable to get the courage to show the redness of his eyes to anyone else. He knew he was on the verge of his own emotions, but he didn't want to open up that way in front of the two, it wasn't how he wanted them to picture him. And yet his eyes sold it all. He wrapped an arm around Jacob, keeping the book in a hand while he wrapped the second one. He squeezed his eyes shut, fighting against the wave of feelings over a simple yet powerful book. Madden was soon able to push everything away, the tears like the overwhelming emotions. He broke their embrace and gave a sincere smile at Jacob, showing the book. "This means a lot to me, thank you." only then was he able to look back at Ruby to thank her as well, but he didn't want to give her the time to analyse his eyes for too long, by fear of what she might see. One, two, three Now you're thirty-three Seeing the puppy happily play with the plush toys, it wasn’t hard to imagine himself take the time to dogsit little Max if it was needed. It was adorable, and although he knew puppies could be a lot of work, Jacob was sure they could do it between the three of them. That was another excuse to break into Max’s apartment, they say they suddenly missed the pup, or they had the sudden urge to go out with the dog(s). Oh, but Max wanted to make a cop out of it, why? He frowned at the idea. “You want to make it a cop? That’s ridiculous, look at how cute it is, you can’t take him to the police.” There was slight sneer when he said police, but it was all in good fun, though he did think it was waste of a perfectly good dog. Max pinned the sheriff start on his shirt, and Jacob smiled in mock pride at the new tittle. “You better appreciate it, the lengths I go to make you happy.” Max made it sound like Jacob had to kill at least one person per day to feel happy, and now that he thought about it, it shouldn’t be a surprise. But please, he could control himself, it wasn’t like he went to the streets of Chicago to hunt for prey, he usually only killed people he was paid to do so. He wasn’t about to justify himself to the cop though, either way, Max would tell him it was bad to kill, or whatever. No doubts the puppy was innocent, it was Ruby the one you should watch out for. “For now.” He answered her, a smirk as he watched it drag the plushies around. He wondered if Max would let them train it to tear their enemies’ throats, unlikely, he was too nice for that. As the gifts were being revealed, Jacob could only feel happy Ruby didn’t bother buying the string batman underwear (was that even a thing?) He could do without that mental image. He shot a displeased look at the Harley ones, “You say that, Max, but I think we all know it’s not quite true.” He was sure Ruby could convince Max of a lot of things with just one look, but again, that was a mental image he could do without. He watched Max open his gift with slight trepidation. He didn’t know why he felt so hesitant, a slight nervousness that Max would hate his gift. It was a bit irrational, but it didn’t stop him from looking at Max expectantly. Like Ruby’s gifts, he promptly put the things to use, and to his surprise, he chose Jacob’s dog collar to put on the puppy. “Stab collar, I like the sound of that.” He figured Max wouldn’t want his dog to look too threatening, he already had Jacob and Ruby for that. Next was the cat book, he found it while looking for the Alice in wonderland one, the tittle so fitting he couldn’t stop laughing while he bought. By now he already felt reassured, glad that Max seem to enjoy his presents. “Can’t let her get you by surprise, you have to learn the sign, Max, don’t want to find you dead one day because Ruby got angry.” He laughed. Last but not least, there was the Alice in Wonderland book. He had debated for a long time about what give Max, he wanted it to be meaningful, like a symbol of their relationship. That book seemed like a good idea, Max had the habit of making references to it, calling him the white rabbit, calling Ruby the queen of hearts, and so many others. But as Max looked at the cover and went suddenly silent, Jacob was having second thoughts. He seem shocked, like it was the last thing he expected to receive. “Max?” he said hesitantly, shooting a confused look at Ruby. Did he do something wrong? Clearly there something more to it that would make Max have such a strong reaction. There was a deep emotional look on Max’s eyes when he finally looked up at Jacob, who didn’t know how to react. He was expecting a thanks or a laugh, even a rejection, but not for Max to be on the verge of an emotional breakdown. He accepted the hug still feeling confused, wrapping his arm loosely around Max as well, before deciding the man needed the full contact and pulling Max to a proper hug, wrapping both his arms around the cop and squeezing. So much for him avoiding emotions. “I didn’t expect you to like it so much” He said when Max backed off, feeling a bit awkward.
