t is usual for the detective to be given more important cases to solve, or more capital P problems to find a solution for, by usually creating new problems. Not always do cases end up nicely with a bow around the file, most of the time they are put on hiatus, or soaked in blood because of stupid mistakes. Lately there had been a lot of those and slowly, Max had been given lesser P to deal with. It wasn't completely his fault. With the bombing, his personal issues, physical wounds and mental exhaustion, it was hard to keep up. Lack of sleep was also a nice little monster keeping him from doing his job properly. He felt guilty for ending in such a deep, sad spot in his life, feeling the memories of the past he would rather forget, slowly creeping back under his skin. He was hating it, but gladly for him, he had a few elements here and there that helped him overcome a breakdown.

He was sitting at his desk, his clock indicated 10:15 am. His office was a mess but only on one side, strangely enough. The mess was mostly made of folders that were salvaged from the bombing of the PD, the rest were just, useless junk that ended up in Madden's office by some random acts. The folder in his hands was containing one of those 'small p' cases, like petty thievery. The person concerned in those files was a young girl, 19 years old, called Lena Petrivna Melnyk. No parents, no current home, no legal guardian and from the file's information and thickness, she had been visiting the PD quite a few times in the past few months. Max frowned, moving his hand to Lucius' head, the young German Shepherd sitting next to him, looking up curiously at his master. The frown on his face was tired, but pained at the sight of the words he read in Lena's folder. He saw a part of himself in there, and he sighed deeply at the thought, the memory of himself sitting in a back alley in the middle of the night, covered in blankets and coats to keep himself warm in winter. Not memories he wanted to see flashing back now. He put a hand on his forehead, knowing his colleagues were coming with Lena and will be knocking at his door soon to put her in his hands.

He hoped he wouldn't have to get up. In the drawer of his desk were small boxes of painkillers he kept taking every two three hours. They made him sleepy, but he couldn't afford to take a break from work after his weeks in the hospital. His back was sleeping for now, the pain invisible, but he couldn't balance on his left leg yet, thus the presence of a crutch, put against his desk, close enough for him to reach. Before he was injured he used to get out of his office quite often, getting coffee, walking Lucius around and outside, but now he rarely walked out. Andrea took Lucius out on walks for him. Such a kind person she was, Max was glad to have her here with him. He had never felt so useless and weak in his life, and he wished this phase would be over soon, so he could get back to work with more determination and efficiency. Inside him was still lit the embers of his anger for the one who was responsible for his demise. As soon as he was recovered, the cold meal called revenge shall be taken by him, and him only.

As expected, someone knocked on his door. Lucius immediately looked at the door, but didn't move, being an obedient pup like his master had taught him. "Come in" said the cop, clearing his throat, remaining seated at his desk as his colleagues brought in who he believed was Lena.
